Where has everyone gone?
Are people from the old board here as well?
I haven't seen McMenses or Neith on here in a while, is anyone from the old message board here? Or are all theses posts and replies been by newbies? I haven't been on this site now for a few months and i was just wondering where everyone is. I'd really apperciate(sp?) if someone could tell me where everyone has been. Thanks!

I don't think I can totally speak for Neith and the others, I also used to enjoy their posts, but this board has seemed to become "tween" land and while not a bad thing by any means, sometimes the shift drives people away. I'm sure they still lurk as I do, but I find more insightful discussion and of course great snarkiness over at the TwOP boards.
Just my honest 2 cents people! So let's not lash out, everyone has their opinions about different boards that they frequent. Some of my own posts in the past have mentioned spelling, grammar and sentence structure, this pet peeve tends to drive me away, also "netspeak" I guess I'm just a little old school and prefer to read something like I'm reading an actual book. Again just my 2 cents. I don't want to insult people, everyone has their own views. I think all the youngin's on this board are sweet as pie and I hope to have kids like you guys some day.
Peace!

I feel exactly the same. I know I am one of those kids you are speaking of, but my biggest thing is proper english and structure. I hate it when my friends will either drop the "g" at the end of every word and act as I call them a hickerbilly, or try and act like a thug. No one will ever take you serious nor respect you if you make yourself unintelligent. Now that I got that out I feel much better.

i think that ppl write like that cuz it's faster to type instead of spelling everything out, i kno that's why i do it

That's exactly one of the reasons I don't post here much, or at any of the many other SVU boards.
Don't get me wrong, I love the tweeners, but when they overtake what was a forum for discussion (and I do mean long-ass posts actually discussing topics beyond a character's hair cut), to turn it into netspeak "heven" and a lot of "OMG! Liek its so kewl!!1!", I don't feel I'm welcome or wanted.
So I hang out with the older crowd at mariska.com and our adults only forum that I just created at my site.

well im sorry if we have something to say and dont like to use proper english as long as we get our point across. And i think its a steriotype to say that like "tweeners" type like that. not everyone like that does. im not trying to sound mean, but im 13 and i think im pretty mature for my age and you make us sound like we're 8.

wow Chrisitine your only thirteeen, i would never guess that. You write very mature. I am in my early twenties and i just joined this board and i have been enjoying it so far. I enjoy all the posts and I dont see where anyone has been disrespectful to anyone. I have not seen any profanity here either. I love SVU like crazy and sometimes i use "tweenies" (as it is called) but i think its ok. Its a form of reality. I think this makes the board room alive and vibrant. The posters express themselves better that way. I use Omg or Um!! sometimes cuz thats how i am feeling in that moment, i am either trying to decide on something or just puzzled. It makes my post real. No one will drive me away from this board. If i read a post and i am offended i simply respond in a very polite manner and i get over it. I think this is the best board, i've visited a few others of Mariska sites and i rate this board number one. Dont get me wrong i love those boards too, i am a freak for SVU and anythig concerning Mariska/olivia but i prefer this one. Let me say if i have offened any of the older posters my deepest apologies.

For the love of all that is good and pure!!!!
Just take this as constructive criticism and let it go. I don't want to be responsible for a "tween" slicing up their wrists because the adults tried to bestow pearls of wisdom on the younger set. Absorb what has been said, take a deep breath, let it go and then go create a post about Rishka's hair or if Benson and Stabler are going to "@!ck" the crap out of each other sometime this season.
Peace,
Oh and use a condom!

...Neneski, I think I love you. Haha My quabbles (or just plain bitching) over abhorrent grammar are infamous on this board, I believe.
Any TDs here that don't know of the community over at LJ?

No disrepect to the younger posters, but I understand what the others are saying. It's sometimes hard to get past the language barrier. I don't mean to come off as pompous, but that is in fact is why a lot of people don't post here.

I try to write in full sentences and use correct grammar, punctuation, etc. When I don't have time though, I just revert back to how I used to talk in 7th grade online... using "lol", "IMHO" and write long run on sentences separated with "...." I only do this because it's an old habit and it's faster to type that way. Also, I use "omg" a lot because that's what I say anyway when I'm scared or excited for something (a SVU episode, for example) and I automatically read omg as oh my god... so please excuse that.
My friends who still add -z's to the end of their words or drop a -g at the end can get annoying to me after I've been talking to them for a while, so I see what you guys mean. Also, my #1 pet peeve is people WhO tAlK LiKe ThiS... but thank god no one does that on this board.
Anyway, the people who left this board because a lot of people abbreviate things to type faster or use incorrect grammar... please come back! Because I know in July, when there were a lot of people from the old board here, I actually used to write more full sentences. Also, consider coming back because your posts and threads were a little bit more thought provoking than some of the current ones about how hot *cough* Elliot *cough* is or how much some people *cough* hate CI *cough.*

I am an English teacher and grammar is a big issue for me. If you go back to my posts and read what I've written, you'll find that my grammar in occasions, actually most of the times, is very laid back and relaxed. There is no doubt that we can all write professionally and with flawless grammar, but there's no teacher around with a red pen marking off incorrect grammar.
Don't get me wrong, I absolutely abhor the fact that my students use incorrect grammar on their school work, but there is no red pen here, we are here to express our opinions on a shared interest: SVU.
Personally, I find that any teenager that has the capacity to understand the legal jargon used on the show and the powerful themes exposed is quite mature.
I enjoy reading every post because many of you teenagers have quite interesting things to say. There's so much about you guys that remind me of my teenage years: no malice, no envy, no bitterness. I love working with teenagers and I believe that you all have many positive things to contribute to our society.
If people are not happy with what is posted around here, there is only one solution, turn your attention to more "mature" and grammatically correct posts in which only adults are invited. As for me, I am 25 years old, considered an adult by society, yet a kid at heart! Enough said...

I never said tweeners were stupid or immature, what I said is I don't like reading posts that are nonsensical in nature and lack some very basics of written communication, which your post "proves" my point. I don't see much punctuation or sentence structure here. If I try hard and read slowly, I get what you're trying to say, but it's hard and oftentimes too much for me to do.

No one's asking anyone to stop posting. What the "adults" of the board are saying is that one of the reasons we're not around as much is because the posts are illegible in content, grammar and punctucation to the point that we don't bother very often.
That's not a condemnation to anyone to stop doing what they're doing - though I wouldn't be opposed to a little less nonsensical stuff and little more proper written English - we're just commenting on why we're not here. That's it.

Well I am very sorry if we do not type that way but sometimes I have a lot to write and I cannot be worried if I spell things incorrectly or if i don't have the right puncutation. And I didn't mean to offend you before.

You guys don't "offend" me either. That is not why I brought up the reasons why some people don't post here anymore. The original post was "hey, where did all the people from the old board go?" or something to that effect. Some of us just prefer punctuation etc. I will actually sit and go over my posts several times and run a spell check before I post, the "I type so fast, that's why my puctuation and grammar suck" excuse doesn't fly with me. We've become a society of rush, rush, rush and we need to slow down and actually put some thought and effort into things sometimes. Not everyone will agree with this, but this is America and we can do and say what we want and nobody is going to kick us out. I will always come back here, mostly because I am a "spoiler whore."
Peace!

I don't know what to say...
I'm acually somewhat stunned. I guess what i was trying to say earlier was that it kind of seems less mature than the old SVU board. I'm really not trying to affend anyone here, but i guess when you older you can tell when someone is mature or not. I'm not saying you guys aren't mature, i guess i don't acually know what i'm trying to say. I mean i guess since i was a member from the old board i can somewhat tell the differece from this one and the old one. I just find it alot different than what it used to be. If i look back at the old board, maybe about 2/5's of the people acually post on this like they used too. All i guess i'm trying to say is that i can notice a difference from the boards, but i don't think it's about matureity(sp?) or we write/type on here, when i mean matureity(sp?) i'm not meaning age's and young and old, i think it's just the fact that there is so much more people joining, from where to the old board it was the same people usually everyday. I really don't know what i mean by this, so just ignore this, if you want. It's more of my jibberish thoughts. Well i really hope i didn't affend anyone when i said this board doesn't seem as mature as it used to be. I really am at loss of words right now.
