Full Version: Interested in another Tony Shalhoub series?

Obviously many of us are hooked on seeing Tony Shalhoub because of the TV series Monk. However there are other people who got hooked on Tony after seeing the TV series "Stark Raving Mad" (SRM). I beleive some members of tv.com (i think) have rated many of the episodes of SRM as a 9 to 10 meaning it was a really good series. I tried looking to buy SRM on DVD but like the TV series "Wings" the makers of the series have so far not paid any attention to requests to have the series be put on DVD. Perhaps not enough interest is there or they are busy with the bigger fish to fry (working on series currently out). Anyhow I did find someone that does sell informal copies of the SRM series (18 episodes. So he does not the 4 that were unaired). You can email to genericdvds1@aol.com and ask for SRM specifically. I know it doesn't seem right to not buy from the formal source, but the formal source (who has been asked since 1999) is not interested in putting out the product despite demands from fans and others like me so what else can one do. Not enough Tony: lobby lobby lobby lobby

you know- really a fan does not really KNOW what to do-- when you would love to buy from legitimate sources--yet can find none-- THEN you know it is messy to " buy bootleg" copies of tapes--- which is really what they are-- it is messy becuase it puts fans in a real quandry -- so i can guess it is all up to the fan and what they decide is BESt for them personally- i always HATE it when i want to buy a series and the producers BS on me-- esp. when I realy do WANT to give ' credit where credit is due'(sigh)

Yeah I heard some people did not have very good luck. All my Monk DVDs from China turned out OK. The picture quality for the first half of Season 4 isn't as crystal clear as the English DVDs of Season 1-3. But for someone who has no cable so therefore no Season 4 for a very long time it's exciting to have something. On a scale of 1 to 10 the pic quality would be an 8.5. However when the full season 4 comes out in the US formal version I will be buying it. I'm pretty obsessed.

Anyways I did order "Stark Raving Mad" from this seller. I'll let everyone know if it's good all the way: which could take awhile (18 episodes). However this seller is also an ebay seller under sellerid vicariousvic. He has had 343 positive feedbacks with a rating of 307 (positives from the same buyer do not get counted into the rating again). His feedback rating is 100%. I've been an ebay buyer for sometime and I can honestly tell you that kind of rating means this guy is a good bet.

Good luck with those SRM DVDs! It was a great show!

I have the DVD that this guy is selling of SRM and it's ok. Some episodes transfered to DVD better than others and some are pretty fuzzy with not so great sound quality, but so far none of them are completely unwatchable. Hey, it's what you get when you buy something someone has recorded with a VCR then transfered to DVD. I'm about halfway through the set, and so far so good. (BTW, the show itself is really pretty funny and as usual, TS is great!)

Thanks Outside the Box and Clippo puppet. I am dying to see this series.

I just hope the sound quality on those others will be enough that I can hear it and know what's going on.

As a side I have two VCR/DVD combo machines. The "Panasonic" plays all my informal DVD sets flawlessly. However the "GoVideo" would cough in picture for a few episodes. My husband says that with copies if the quality isn't that good it will not play on all DVD players.

I also have a friend that has SRM for sale on dvd at an extemely reasonable price. He also has Wings on Dvd.
The market is there if you want to find it.
I don't earn a dime for the sales but if it turns someone onto Tony or Neil it's worth it.
SRM was a funny show,it should be on DVD but until it is.....

I bought the SRM dvd's from extex's friend. I really like the series, there are some really funny moments. Tony's character is very different, kind of dark, or maybe darkly funny describes him better. Wouldn't it be great if we could find the unaired episodes?

annajones,

How long before you get those DVDs?
annajones
If sent first class they should arrive by the end of the week. If sent media mail it will arrive by the end of next week. If I get it end of this week I should be able to view them all in 3-4 days. If they arrive end of next week I will run into a schedule conlfict since I will be out of town for two weeks beginning Oct 29.

I got them Thursday. He shipped the items first class. Quality? First episode wasn't sharp. Kind of like copying a tape on VHS using extended play. Also the first episode had alittle static (shhhhh sound) which was slightly annoying. The picture quality for the other episodes was much better. There was no problem with the sound for the other episodes. Only two other episodes had a little snow at the bottom of the screen.

R/e Stark Raving Mad: I watched all 18 episodes in two days. It's great. The first episode had Tony as Ian Stark singing Rock music. Who'd think of Tony singing? Tony's raving mad character is so unpredictable it makes each show different. I really enjoyed every episode. It's a funny show.

I enjoyed it too! There were 2 episodes I liked the best, the one with the old man and the coffin, and the one where at the end Tony dances with that skinny woman, who's name I can't recall. But then the one with "Doogie" (sorry, I'm terrible at remembering names) trying to rock and move the elevator while screeching, and everybody watching him, was really funny!
annajones
OMG. I liked the coffin one the best too. Ian was brillant. I also liked the one with the skinny girl dancing: Henry's girlfriend tries to fix Ian with the female bartender in hopes of getting more to spend more time with Henry. I think "Doogie" is the correct spelling. That scene of Henry (Doogie) on the elevator and Ian dancing on the ledge were both good enough to be used as footage for the start of every episode.
Raven
Did you know that the 'old man' was Tony? I didn't, I was totally fooled. He was so funny, like when he kind of stiffly fell sideways onto that chair, sooo funny!!
Ayla
I liked the Dance episode and the Secrets and Lies episode with the young Tony (I won't give the secret away, but wow, it was HILARIOUS, I played it over and over again). I really did love all the SRM episodes. I also liked the pigeon one and the book report one and the pre-engagement one. I really wish I could find the unaired ones, because I think Ian Stark has a gf in one of them that's the twin sister of Doogie's gf (i think that's what it read).... I will pay dearly if someone can find those 4 unaired episodes.
annajones
No I didn't. That's the best part. It was only when the corpse came alive that I suspected Ian had something to do with this.
ClippoPuppet
Yeah, the Secrets and Lies episode was one of my favorites, mostly because Ian and I share the same "secret". I suspect I looked as goofy as he did too!
annajones
OMG you did that? That was so funny. Actually I was a teenager during that era and that kind of stuff was so in.
ClippoPuppet
Yeah, I did. It was a great time too. I don't go around telling people I was in a mental institution at least.
Raven
I'm drawing a blank on that episode. Tonight I'm going to have to check it out!
