My kids and I like to visit locations where Monk episodes have been filmed. Here are some pictures of the places we've visited:

Look familiar? "It's a Jungle Out There..."

Wow Lisa thanks for sharing. Those are really neat pictures. I didn't know you had kids. I guess I kinda thought most of the members on this board were younger as in high school and college aged.
Tami
I love those pics, LisaAnne! I sure wish "Monk" would film in some locations closer to you so you can get more "MonkWorld" photos of your kids! Rancho Palos Verdes still isn't close enough?
Og_Of_The_Jungle
Your kids are going to get a kick out of this for decades to come! I think it's really great.

Not to mention that Mr. Monk makes a good role model ("What would Mr. Monk say if he saw this room?").
Raven
How do you know where to find these places? Do you recognize them when you see them on the show?
kees_lady
Must be really neat to live close enough to make a trip to a former scene from MONK and take pictures of it. The memories for you and the kids will last forever.
LisaAnne
Thanks Kees Lady, it is fun!!

@ annajones: Yep, I'm Married...with Children!

@ Tami: Yes, RPV is still too far until gas prices go down a little more, but I'll get there!

@ OG: Yes, Mr. Monk is a good role model, isn't he!

@ Raven: A couple of them came from a poster who used to be on the old board, but I get most of them from Tami!

My husband and I have not watched the show since Sharona was cut out. I don't know that my husband cares, but he can't really watch TV alone and this really irritated me. Do you really think that Monk is Monk without Sharona? Sorry guys, you can't just cut out or change out the women in a show and think we don't notice, reference NYPD Blue. "The Man" does NOT make the show and we women DO notice, its insulting. Anyhoo, you had a great show idea, maybe you can do it "daytime-style" and bring her back. We would start watching again.
Cheechawker
Thanks for the pictures LisaAnne. It's so much fun to see all these places 'in real life'; the scenes are so appealing to the eye. Especially the view of the mountains from the ballfield. The San Francisco area sure is beautiful. Keep up the good work!
Tami
Pssst! LisaAnne? Should we tell Hallie the secrets of the "San Francisco Bay Area" in "Monk"?
Raven
Did somebody say "secrets"? Tell me too!
LisaAnne
I don't know if it's that big of a secret, but apparently Hallie didn't realize that most of "Monk" is filmed in the Los Angeles Area, including these locations that I've put up here.

I should have said that these are Southern California Monk Locations! They only film a few scenes in San Fransisco.

Sorry for the confusion Hallie!

---
Monk_ya
Thank you for the pictures. They're great. My son specially loves those school walkway. He loved that Monk scene and he copies Monk whenever we find walkways like those.
Cheechawker
Whoops! My mistake. For some reason I thought I remembered you going on vacation in San Francisco and taking pictures in areas where they shot a scene.
LisaAnne
Oh, yes, we did recently go on vacation to San Fransisco, but none of our SF "Monk Location" photos came out too well. We had all gotten sick on that trip and it was hard to find parking, so I took a lot of pictures from the moving car...kinda blurry! We hope to go back soon and get better pictures of the SF locations.

LisaAnne...

So glad to see you posting again and love the ongoing saga of LisaAnne's Kids in Monkdom. Saw it on Teresa's site - right where it should be.

Great job, love the pics and captions - keep them coming.

Is there a telephone booth across the street from Astros?

Inquiring minds want to know!
LisaAnne
I didn't see one. It must have been a prop. The '76 Gas Station is really there across the street, though.

I'm sooooooooo jealous LisaAnne....what great photo's of your kids at the various monk sites . Do you think monk will come to England to solve a crime and then i would be able to visit the location.....now wouldn't that be great!!! Wishful thinking i know but never say never. Make sure to keep us monk fans updated with your wonderful photo's. Where you off to next? . "monkette"
LisaAnne
Maybe Monk could go to England to work on a case with that English detective from Mr. Monk and the Big Reward! I'd follow him there! London is one of my favorite cities!

Where are we going next? Well, I have a whole list of places Tami has given me, but it's kind of a pain to go up to LA from where I live. The traffic is horrible! It took us almost two hours up and two hours back last time we went! I wish they would expand the 5 Freeway! It needs to be about 10 lanes wide, I think!!

The phone booth and bench in the episode were both props. I used to have a few photos of that area as it really is. I can't seem to find them, now

The one location I'd really like to see is the Kenneth Hahn Park where they filmed the Trudy sequences in "Cobra"!
GlassBell
Hi everybody.

I know of someone who is planning to visit LA and is inquiring about Monk-related sites. Of course there is all this great info here and on Teresa's page about these location sites . . . and about the setting for the "Mexico" episode at Universal, which I assume means this is on the official NBC Universal Studio Tour: http://themeparks.universalstudios.com/hol...te/st_info.html

And I have this address for Mandeville Films: http://biz.yahoo.com/ic/109/109828.html

But as for the main filming site, I don't recall that it is open to the public, or that anyone was ever actually able to visit the set. (Sorry, I don't know if this info has been brought up lately, but I can't seem to find it.) So the closest someone could come would be simply to drive by--is that right ?

--------------------
LisaAnne
The interior scenes of Monk are filmed at Ren Mar Studios in Hollywood.

http://www.seeing-stars.com/Studios/RenMar.shtml

they don't give tours or anything at that studio, but it is fun to just drive by it.

Mandeville is where David Hoberman's business offices are. They are located in the Disney Studio Buildings. I don't think they film there, though. The general public isn't allowed inside the Disney studios, as far as I know.

---
Tami
The studio where the main interior sets are located is Ren-Mar on Cahuenga in Hollywood, GlassBell. Mandeville is David Hoberman's Company. Neither is open to the public and, unfortunately, neither do give tours ...
Tami
Hi, LisaAnne! You got in there with your reply just before me! One note that I wanted to add was that Tony's dressing room is inside the studios now and Ted's, Traylor's and Jason's dressing rooms are all trailers parked on the street ...
GlassBell
Thanks so much for your info, LisaAnne & Tami!

(And Tami, belated congrats on your "Fan of the Week" & b'day! )

Hi, LisaAnne,
Fun thread!!! Thanks! And, Happy Birthday to you!!!

I wonder if Tony made good on his promise to give Traylor his trailer ... technically he said when "I get my bigger trailer" but moving inside is probably considered an upgrade.
(Happy Birthday Tami and LisaAnne!)

Happy B-Day LisaAnne! Your kids are so cute! I will have to take this trip sometime. You are really a true Monkfan! As well as your kids. Best wishes on your special day, and to many more Monk spots added to your map!

Hi There LisaAnne!

Happy belated birthday to you!

It's always fun to read of your adventures! It must be rewarding to live where you can track down so many of the show's settings! Maybe it makes the taxes, crime and smog of CA a little more bearable! LOL!

Jerry

OMG, that is so cool! I would love to be able to visit "Monk" places! My husband and I were in San Francisco last February, but we didn't really know what locations to look for. We rode the trolleys, but that's what everyone does when they go there! Maybe next time, we'll do a Monk tour!

Andrea

LisaAnne...

WOW, another tour of the land of Monk. I love your pictures - they make me feel so "left out" by not living in SF or LA but I can feel a little like a California Girl when you post your pictures.

Maybe I need to take a trip to Green Bay and take pictures of Tony's hometown - but no one would recognize them. He's coming here a couple of times this fall to watch the Packers play. Guess I'm going to have to take up watching the Packers so I can scan the crowds for Tony! I wonder, would I recognize him without his usual Monk clothing? LOL!

Great pictures and an added bonus from Psych, thanks so much for posting them for all of us to see.
Elaine1Leslie
Congratulations to Tony Shalhoub for winning his 3rd Emmy.
I have watched Mr. Monk since day one and have all the episodes on VCR. I enjoyed Mr. Monk very much. Thanks for making it a mystery without making it really gory and I enjoy his defectiveness the most...and his brilliance. That is true OCD. Elaine1Leslie
LisaAnne
Thanks everybody for all your nice comments and birthday wishes!

By the way, if anyone out there loves horses and would like to go camping with their horse, there is a beautiful place in-between Santa Barbara and Los Olivos that is a campground for people to go camping with their horse! It's a really nice place with very friendly people. We didn't camp there, but we went horseback riding there, and it was really fun.

Here is their website, if anyone's interested:

LisaAnne,

You make it sound like so much fun. I think I'll go down to our local Rent-A-Pony and head west. I should make it to California by Spring - don't wait up for me. I hope the mountains are passable this winter, I'd hate to get caught in Donners Pass in mid winter.

Heigh-ho, Pony, let's go....

LisaAnne: In your travels, have you been to Hermosa Beach, approximately 5 miles south of LAX? If you're ever in the area, you may wish to swing by the Sea Sprite Motel http://www.seaspritemotel.com/ (1016 The Strand, Hermosa Beach, CA, 90254) Monk fans will recognize it as The Bay View Motel from the Season Three Episode "Mr. Monk Takes His Medicine."

Viewers will note the beach just beyond the wall next to the pool in which a nakedish Adrian Monk lounged was replaced with footage of the San Francisco Bay.
LisaAnne
Wow, that's cool! Where did you hear about that? I don't think I've ever been to Hermosa Beach. We'll have to check it out one of these days! Thanks!
