Full Version: Monk and Natalie, potentially the coolest romance I've seen on TV.

If indeed Monk ends with Monk and Natalie together, which I and many others on here hope. I think that I would consider it to be one of the best romances I've watched on my tv.

Now this may seem odd to some so I'll try to explain why I think this. First of all, the Monk/Natalie relationship benefits from not being oversexed. In so many shows today all a romance consists of is guy sees girl, guy thinks girl is pretty, guy sleeps with girl. There is no actual relationship, just raging hormones.

Monk/Natalie however shows that you don't need an overtly sexual overtone to a male/female relationship for the audience to become invested in the outcome of the couple.

Now of course not one of us knows for sure if Monk and Natalie will end up together, so don't think I've set it up as a foregone conclusion (the Albright thing is worrisome to me).

However if they have decided to go this route it would be best because character wise I think it fits best and it lets the audience see a very non conventional relationship which is different than anything we see on T.V.

1) Albright is past, is the best friend of mith and only appears once.
2) The relationship between Natalie and Monk is only sentimental.
(monk hates physical contact) bear to hug him, but a tongue kiss is impossible.
3) Natalie is very young for him.
4) I am comfortable with their relationship as friends.

we are left waiting until the end of the show.

Yes, I agree, that bringing these two romantically together at the end could conclude one of the sweetist journeys a man and woman have traveled together towards love that has ever been portrayed on TV.

However, to express such a wish means, of course, that even after five years, the writers have been immensely skillful in being able to depict this relationship in such way that no one really knows how it will end - a position in which they seem to put great importance.

You're right. The writers have done a great job with how they have written the Monk/Natalie relationship. Showing possibilities that may end up together in the end, but never making it so heavy that it's a forgone conclusion. I really do hope that they decided to go that way though because the Monk/Natalie relationship is unique compared to others on TV.

i don't think she's to young for him, she has to at least be in her 40's which isn't to young, he's only 50 i think she in her 40's because she has a daughter who is 18, and i don't think she was really young when she got married to Mitch, i wonder how long they where married until they had Julie. Why do you suspect they would do a tongue kiss? there's nothing wrong with just a simple kiss on the lips.

Second only to Jate (Jack and Kate) hahaha. Jk I almost like Monk and Natalie better. I agree that it would be one of the "coolest" romances to happen (for them to decide they love each other at the end), because they are two characters that have shared many experiences together, able to have cute scenes and great chemistry but the relationship doesn't focus on 'sex' like most TV shows today- its more like a cutesy old fashioned type of onscreen romance where the teasing is innocent. It would show that shows can depict a good, family oriented love story without making it raunchy. And it would make for a sweet ending to Monk's story-to show that people can find love again, and can be loved as they are. It would be a good payoff for everything Monk's gone through for him to realize he is loved and he can love again even after Trudy's gone.

I'm crying... beautiful analysis

I'm starting to find Randy kind of cute in the last few episodes- I don't know why. I never thought he was before. But its weird. Hahaha laugh.gif

Anyway about Monk and Natalie- yeah a tongue kiss would be kind of grossssss-okay really gross. I don't know thats more like Sex and the City kind of stuff. However I can picture a Monk and Natalie kiss being like- okay picture the hug Natalie gives Monk in "Happy Birthday Mr Monk" when she wraps he arms around him and says gotcha- now, picture a nice innocent kiss on lips to go with it. Yeah, I can picture that and it'd be adorable. lol

I don't think it even needs to be a kiss on the lips (although a quick peck would be nice). I wouldn't mind seeing at the very end Monk and Natalie walking down the street arm in arm and Natalie just giving him a quick one on the cheek. The Monk, instead of wiping it off just smiles.

Yeah that'd work too! Then they can have a wipe burning party.

Lol. I just had a picture in my head, Monk speaking in a low Barry White type voice "Hey baby, there's no need to wipe".

Hahaha...that's creepy. It's true though perhaps it would be better if they just walked arm in arm...after all Natalie did kiss the leper.

That still makes me cringe.

I'd like to give another reason why Monk/Natalie has the potential to be the best romance depicted on TV. Like many show focus on sex as the basis of relationships, many others are just plain sappy. There is a fine line that many series fail to tread between sentiment and sentimentality. The beauty about the Monk/Natalie relationship is that there isn't the endless "I love you moments" or tear filled scenes which I find become old and boring very quickly.

Monk/Natalie is like the frog in the pot. As the saying goes, if you drop a frog into boiling water it will immediatley hop out because it will feel it scalding. However if you put a frog into cold water and then raise the temperature little by little the frog won't notice until it's too late. By that same line of thinking if they were to introduce Natalie and then all of a sudden have a bunch of overly romantic moments between them I think the relationship would have been rejected by a large majority of the audience. Thankfully they went the other way and made the relationship at first a pretty much strictly working one, then as the years went on you could see a good friendship developing and then later some flirtation and signs of potential romance.

Again I'm not sure what they have decided to do about Monk/Natalie. But the have set up the potential very nicely.

I love the boiling frog analogy! Hahaha

LOL- I didn't make this Monk and Natalie video- but now this is cool! Even though its really exaggerated it's hilarious

Thanks, I think the boiling frog describes the relationship perfectly. I liked the video too.

So, I just discovered that "Mr Monk's Favorite TV Show" episode exists. lol. I don't have cable at home so there's some episodes I accidentally pass over. That one had some really cute M/N scenes- Natalie eating the page so Monk couldn't see it! Making Monk his favorite snack, and renting the TV show so they could watch it together on the couch AWWWW how kind of her. The fight scene in the house...Why do I miss all these good episodes? I never saw the one where Monk rubs the flower on Natalie's face either...and I have no idea what thats from. I missed like 3 or 4 of last seasons episodes so I guess I better go back and see what else I've missed...

Watch Monk 5x07 Mr. Monk Gets A New Shrink

Doc: Tell me about your assistant, Natalie.
Monk: in many ways reminds me trudy ... is also very ... very ...
Doc: symmetrical.

A simple kiss on the lips would be raptuous indeed but even Monk initiating the bond of love by simply taking her hand in his could leave us with a haiku universe or FF to creatively fill in what comes next

Well, there's not much playtime left to get them involved. It seems that Nat will not be a main part of the upcoming episode so all our hopes on M/N have to concentrate the last four episodes... (It's cruel, isn't it?)

Perhaps they put Dog and Camping (which were filmed some time ago) on such a late position of the schedule to confuse M/N shippers? Happy Birthday and Sharona seemed to base on a more intimate M-N-relationship than the Dog episode. But this can also be a side effect because the dog (and only the dog) was the subject of that episode.

Yeah, I wonder too. Because the Camping episode probably will not have hardly any Monk Natalie interaction at all so while Im sure it'll be a good ep I'm not looking forward to it as much. But then the Badge ep and Wedding ep will probably have ALOT. I honestly don't know what- if anything- will happen and don't pretend it will, but for the most part of season 6, I wouldn't have predicted On the Run too have as much strong Monk Natalie scenes as it did and that season had much less "teasing" scenes than this one so I'm optimistic.

ETA: HAHA Monk thinks Natalie is symmetrical? Dang it I forgot that scene. But it is implied a lot that Monk reminds Natalie of Mitch, so its funny to hear Natalie Reminds Monk of Trudy.
