Cashier: Ma'am I'm sorry we don't take debit cards. We take foodstamp cards though.
(me looking at her like she's crazy) Me: Are you serious?
Cashier: Yes ma'am, or cash.
(me thinking to myself): WTF?
(PS-I was at a Hostess foods store)

Some places don't take debit cards because the banks charge a fee per transaction. some stores also charge a fee for using debit and credit cards.

And to charge a fee for using credit cards is usually a violation of the merchant agreement. I know it's in mine. I just pulled my last statement and the extra charge per transaction for debit cards is 11.5 cents. If your margin is that small that 11.5 cents is gonna put you out of business, you need to look for a different line of work!

I've just never expierienced something like that before. It was just weird for me. It was a Hostess place where they sold Hostess name brand food items (mainly the snack cakes and stuff). You'd think Hostess could afford a debit card machine, but then....apparently not.
