Hey everyone!! A very heartfelt thank you for the wonderful birthday sentiments and pictures!!
You really blew me away. I haven't written here for a while, so I wasn't expecting anything. My JD-aholic heart nearly stopped at the sight of his gaze and smile. You gals know how to get my attention! I just love coming back to this board, which is another way of saying thank you, everyone, for making it what it is. I confess that I have lurked many times. (By the way, the new format you've adopted for the threads and the many links you've created to past background info are great for newbies -- you're surely contributing to the popularity of this show by adding to the experience.)
I basically haven't written due to my husband's job loss. Our household joined the unfortunate unemployment statistic this year because my husband works in commercial development/remodeling, which has virtually stopped. It's troubled because it follows residential development, which has also nearly stopped because of the foreclosure/credit situation. We are making it through, but we're very busy finding creative new ways to keep the household running. I am now the barber/hair stylist for my husband, myself and the dog! If there were a black belt in grocery bargain hunting, I would surely have earned it by now. I've learned how to make syrup and granola. Cable had to go, but we're having fun reading to each other and doing puzzles bought at thrift stores. We are grateful that we can see BN and a few other cable shows online. We still have the internet because we couldn't imagine life without it. And, we do expect to avoid becoming part of the foreclosure statistic, thankfully.
I'm mostly adjusted to the economic situation now -- except for a few moments that cause palpitations (i.e. medical, vet and car repair bills), it's not that bad for us, just busy and tiring.
I did have a fun birthday. My hubbie cooked one of my favorite meals, we hung out with family (which was a good thing!) and we went to the State Fair (on dollar day of course!).
Thanks again!!
tgirl, I came across a quote recently that has stuck with me..."Adversity is a certainty, suffering is optional." You seem to bear that out so well in your positive attitude toward all that has happened in your life in the past few months. We're always given a choice as to how we deal with difficult situations and I think it is remarkable the grace, humor, and creativity with which you are handling this. What you have written here is something I'm going to remember. Also wanted to say what a special thing it is that you and your husband are reading to each other and doing puzzles together in the evenings...can't help but think that this is will only strengthen an incredible bond between you.
Am so glad to hear that you are expecting to be able to keep your house, and I hope that any major bills will be extremely minimal. It sounds as though the economy is beginning to turn around some and I hope that your husband will be back at work again very soon. You'll be in my thoughts and prayers over this.
It's so good to see you back again, tgirl! Love that your husband cooked one of your favorite meals for your BD. That is just so sweet!!
