well i have slept with a S&W .357 semi-automatic loaded with hollow points under my pillow. currently i have a .223 single shot rifle in a gun rack in my room.

I'm old-school, so there's always a 1911 within reach. As for a long arm, in the house is a 12bore Winchester 97 and an AR-15. My 'car gun' is a sidefolding AK74 and a bag of 5 magazines. I prefer the 74 for it's ruggedness and reliability and I really like the 5.45 7N6 round.

Never get in a gunfight with a handgun who's caliber does not begin with the number '4'. Stun guns are fun, but if the situation escalates to the point that weapons are drawn, I want every advantage that I can get. There's no award for '2nd Place'.

I prefer my .357's but hey I'll take a .45 acp or long colt or 44 long colt. .22's can't hit the broadside of a barn door with anything under .357. as a kid my weapon in my room was a 12 guage full choke single shot shotgun loaded with pheasant loads. if they got past the overprotective dog camped behind the door they met it.

I can top that. I have a re-enactor buddy who's a Class 3 dealer/SOT (he builds automatic weapons), and he keeps one of his live MG-42 's with a 50rd belt in the feed tray right beside his bed. Now THAT'S overkill, IMHO. Not too surprisingly, his neighborhood is really quiet and not many bad guys.

Not really sure about guns not had a lot of experience with them, being british and all. Hand guns are banned here. Have handled a .45 semi automatic, a Luger and a Revolver, Colt I think for my forensics class though. As I said don't know a hell of a lot about guns.
