It was driving me crazy so I made a copy of the article while I was at work yesterday. Now I'll say it again, I like the Mentalist. On its own merit, it's a good show. But the love fest everyone's got going on for it is really grating on my nerves.
Here's a quote from the article: "One of the great emotional draws of
The Mentalist - what brings true gravitas to a fun, effervescent whodunit show - is Jane's broken heart." Excuse me, fun? Effervescent? Where have those qualities been hiding? Because I have certainly not seen much of them. The show gets a chuckle from me on occasion, and more frequently a grin, but never more than that. Psych, which never fails to double me over in laughter, could be called a "fun, effervescent whodunit show". The Mentalist? Not so much.

That's not what I watch The Mentalist for so the lack of it isn't my problem; I just wish it would stop being promoted as what it is not. It is not a "dramedy", or a light-hearted, "fun, effervescent" show. That's fine. That's what Psych's for, so no one else really needs to try it!
