I couldn't agree more, Kayne! Actually, there are some stories posted here that have some rather explicit chapters. But I think most of us try to keep it PG-13 here. I know that I have a couple of chapters that I've toned down for posting here, and the more explicit version on ff.net. And then there is Amorous Intent! Whoa! They have NC-17 stories...some really bad, some really, really good. I always put in a word for TrinityWildcat and Brynna over there.
Kayne
I'll check it out!

laugh.gif Yes, PG-13 is fine.

That's usually what I do, although the really explicit stuff I've written isn't on ff.net or Amorous Intent, either. (Too explicit for ff.net, not Bobby/Alex, which Amorous Intent is an archive for.) There's a time and a place for all things.

Anyone wanting details of where to find everything I've written, please PM me and I'll be happy to send it to you. So long as you are of appropriate age, etc.
TJara
Most anything on FF.net that's rated M is way beyond that rating and should be rated MA. FF.net doesn't seem to care, mostly because you have to choose the M-Rating to have that stuff displayed at all.

I always liked the Freedom of Speech Archive but it seems to be down. sad.gif

Any other places people can recommend? Besides Armorous Intent, that I know.

Agreed, but I prefer not to openly break the rules of the site in case they decide to crack down on this. My take on it is that I'll post the odd explicit chapter if it's an integral part of a larger fic, but the pure smut / fluff fics I write, I don't post there.
Outerbankschick
I rate my stuff M, but not for the sexual content alone. What I write you can find in a lot of romance novels, but I think I am R-rated, certainly not X. I don't do the more explicit type stuff. But my stories are definitely not for children or very young teens. They deal with adult themes and emotional issues, sometimes abuse (working on one or two of those now) and they are clearly for adults. Y'all let me know if anything I write is too much for this board and I'll post links to FF.net instead. smile.gif
Maherjunkie
Anybody who wants to read my erotica or post their own can come over to my board. I don't care.

Very honorable position. Safer that way, too.

@OBC
I think there's no clear line between "smut" and "non-smut". The line is blurred. Not to say yours is the former category, I'm just thinking it's not that easy to define. Btw., the X & R rating are the same, just that the X-rating doesn't officially exist anymore. The rating above R now is NC-17.

The title of this thread scared me. I do not read stuff that is over PG-13. The stories that are Rated M are usually (but not always) better stories on ff.net. So I skip over the naughty parts and just read the stuff that advances the plot.

Too funny, Maherjunkie! None of this, "But it's artistic." Just "I wanted smut and smut is what I got!" Although...when it's done really well, I consider smut to be VERY artistic. laugh.gif

Everyone has the right to their own opinion, just no X rating on the board, which you said you wouldn't, and that's fine with me.

Smut can be just smut or be part of the plot or used to advance the plot. It all depends on the context wink.gif

globetrottersara
hey Maher... I have a spare room in the UK if you ever want to come to Europe wink.gif

So far, I liked what I read here and also the fanfics I found on ff.net. Some didn't seem too "M", but maybe it was rated M because of the topics, rather than actual X scenes. I don't only go for the naughty stuff, lol, but I do not mind reading a little spiced up ff, now and then.
Of course, there's a place for everything and some ffs are posted somewhere else not here. Thus, I think Maher did the right thing, asking smile.gif

This is why I usually don't tell people I write fanfic any more. Some of my really good friends know, but I've had problems in the past with people making assumptions about me because I write explicit fic. I don't think of myself as prudish, but "reserved" probably isn't far off the mark.

Sidebar: TJara, you're right about the fic you sent me the message about - the comment you're referring to is in "The Russian Connection", not "I'll Meet You In the Bathroom in Five". Which is kind of appropriate, since "Russian Connection" will be a lot more, um, naughty than "Betrayal's End", when I have time to pick up writing it again. [/ramble]

So am I . People still don't get a woman can be diverse.
Outerbankschick
Oh, I agree y'all. Just because you write something a certain way doesn't mean you yourself actually live it that way. I have a fic going where I'm writing about a serial killer. In writing the killer, I have to get into his sick little mind. Doesn't mean I'd actually entertain the thoughts he's entertaining...but he does, so I've got to think them so that he can think them.

Ouch! That last sentence made my head hurt! LOL!
globetrottersara
You make an excellent point, OBC smile.gif
TJara
OBC, are you taking "Method Writing 101"?

@TrinityWildcat
Thanks, I'll check that out, I just LOVE that sentence.
And I finally started reading Army Fatigues. I figured if I was gonna read more, I might as well start at the very beginning!

No one besides my CI friends know I'm writing ff. At least not that I know, I mean it's not like I'm hiding it, there's a link on my blog, so... however, I don't think too many of my friends would get anything out of it and for some the language barrier would be quite a problem.
Maherjunkie

LOL! To me, writing is sort of like method acting. Calling on personal feelings and/or experiences when necessary...and opening a vein and just letting it out. It's also a bit like having MPD...because I have to be so many people at once! wink.gif

Barbi
globetrottersara
When I write I feel the same as you, OBC. Or even when I do some other artistic thing... I have to feel "it". I cannot write "on command", because whomever I'm letting speak through my work (me or someone else's feelings), it has to be natural, spontaneous, 'humanly plausible'. (not a big sci-fi fan here) I could never make a living as a writer, I guess, lol, I would have to force myself to be consistent and don't let too much time pass between one book and the next one, or I'd starve to death, lol...

Same with acting. I think the best actors are the Method ones (and some of its variations). They are more "real". I couldn't even think of portraying a character on screen or on stage without feeling what the character is supposed to feel. And after 3 roles, they would probably shut me down in a soul asylum with some very bad MPD, haha! No wonder I do something completely different for a living.

So, kudos to OBC!! Now, seriously... when are you gonna post your next chapter?? biggrin.gif
TJara
Maher, when I started writing (10 yrs old), I wrote in German. I switched to English at 15, before I my High School Exchange year in the US. I haven't gone back because it's usually English/American TV shows that I write for, and it feels more "real" if you write that in English.
