So far, in my scripts, we've seen Shawn, Juliet, and Abigail stuck in an elevator, and we've seen Shawn up against the Terminator. Now, Shawn goes undercover at a Renaissance Faire!

I do need help with the title. I like the working one I have now, but if you guys can think of a better one, I'll take it.

If I had to choose whether Shawn has more of a jester or a psychic in him, I'd *definitely* say jester. It could give you some nice opportunites for jokes, since the court jester was the only one who was allowed to say anything he wanted about the king. He was, after all, considered crazy.
Gus could be the court wizard, I agree. Maybe 'MagiCKhead' rings a bit more medieval-Renaissance-ish? On the other hand, the Renaissance was the time of the dawn of rationality and the emergence of modern science (or am I getting my time periods mixed up?), so I'm not sure whether court magicians were still common.
Or am I over-analysing your premise now?

I concur. The title is great but the zounds sounds kindof scooby-doo-esque. Perhaps "Hark" or something like that? It might be wrong century, but that has never stopped... um... I don't know, but I doubt that anyone else will notice.

lol. Yeah, you could call that over-analyzing. I'm not sure about court magicians, but it doesn't matter. The episode is about a Renaissance Faire. In Ren. Faires, it's common to have a psychic/magician/both. Usually, the msytic/psychic sits at a table and does card-reading. A magician, if there's a psychic and a magician, performs magic tricks.

I'm just wondering what would be the best position for Shawn; juggler, mystic/psychic, magician, or jester. In fact, I think I'll eliminate jester. That's a given as Shawn, and the jester wouldn't play such a big role anyway.

Zounds is a popular Renaissance expression. Hark would be way off. If you guys can offer me a Ren.--preferably one-word--expression...

"Zoinks" is Shaggy. Zounds is not - sounds alright to me. Can't really think of any other exclamation but "fie" at the moment.

OH WOW Bourne, Dave.. i was just going to email you about a Renaissanse fair episode, somone mentioned one on a topic in the back that i wanted to reply too..haha awesome I have lots of ideas.

If you haven't seen it allready find that topic I think it's episode ideas..maybe the writer will pick these up.

my ideas which are not mine entirely by far, but a jousting scene, lassiter or shawn if it's shawn I think he should jump on last minute, if it's lassie than thats cool too

I think sean should go under cover as like a wizard that way he can wear a big beard and talk in a funny voice

i think it would be funny to get gus in a jest outift with tights

Lassiter should be really interested in the weapons,

and i think juliet could know alot about the different things at the since she's a bit of a nerd (red fantom) I also think it would be funny if she pulled the sword from the stone out and impressed everyone.

finally I think a king arthur esque villian should be protrayed by somone like hugh lourie (house)

The idea here is to have Lassiter show up at the Faire just because he likes it, so he'll probably try to take over the weapons booth at one point, lol.

The working title is now Much Ado About Murder. Though I fear if I change the title of the thread, people will wonder what happened to the thread.

Juggler would rule. Except, you can't concentrate on things around you when you're juggling.

Yes, I do. But I don't know particularly much about it or anything. In this case it's just because I wrote a paper on satire in high school, and I read a lot about jesters, since they can be considered as medieval satirists.

This is cool I actually wrote a teaser for a Ren Fest episode last year but I never finished it (short attention span and to much school work)

Well, if I remember right you did go on about what the Renaissance was, picking apart the whole magician angle. And whether they are common knowledge or not, stating a lot of facts in the middle of a friendly discussion topic tends to come off as an attempt to show off, even if it's unsuccessful.
But here I go, ranting... sorry.

I'm not sure ive never been to one myself but if there is any arthurian ledgend stuff going on, I'm sure it would work as a challenge

I realize casting dosen't come into play, but just as you can invision shawn and gus, If you can imagine your other characters you can write to how you think they would sound and such, I just watched somthing with hugh laurie in it today and thought he'd make a good villian character or least primary suspect everyone thinks is the murderer.

I'm sure if you loked at different events in tournements you could find some humor there,
i thought that shawn in a wizards outfit would be funny cause he could walk around and talk like gandalf and bug lassie, and he'd could be doing a rap up and start telling it in his wizard voice and get stopped by lassie and resume to normal.

if just where a jester i can see him hiding in a tent telling shawn he's not gonna do it, then coming out in his jester atire, shawn could start laughing....make some jokes about the tights ( plus gus could dance...if he got over the tights thing)

For the sword in the stone thing I have seen it once at a ren fair I went to, they do shows like that all the time. Plus I'm sure if you put it in there everyone would understand besides Ren Fairs aren't always historically accurate.

Oh just thought of this they have the Sword In The Stone show @ Disneyland, I know cause I got to do it and was the Queen Of Disneyland for a day, lots of fun and I never had to wait in line for rides

That was the writer's block I was referring to. For now, there is no flashback. In fact, I may not write a flashback for this episode. There wasn't a flashback in a few of the episodes, and this might end up being one of those.

Shawns dad comes home to find a bunch of boys on hobbie horses running around the back yard, play sword fighting

cut to henry sitting shawn and gus down...(gus has a paper crown)
Henry: what where all those boys doing in my yard?
Shawn: we where playing King aurthur, and the knights of the round table,
Henry: shawn you know you can’t just go inviting all your friends from school over into my yard swinging plastic swords around, someone could of gotten hurt .
Shawn: Dad it’s hard to play king aurther when it’s just me and gus, we need more knights. King aurthur and lancelot never won any battles alone…
Henry: shawn being a knight is more than just winning battles and waving swords around on horses.

(yada yada if you like it work your magic to make it sound better more like the show)

Henry then goes on to explain to the boys briefly about chivalry then pointing to a girl out side, it comes up that shawn wouldn't let her play...and then henry explains what shawn andgus should do to be nice to the girl, gus seems to get it and walks out side shawn is reluctant but with a glance and a "shawn..." from his father follows.

i know it mgiht be a bit much but like i said work your magic on in if you like it

another idea is that the girl in the beginning could work at the renisance fair, and could maybe hold a half grudge at shawn, maybe a little crush though as well for tensions sake maybe they attended high school together


and if gus was a jester maybe he coudl referance back to when he played king aurthur " you know shawn i was king aurthur once... how did I get to be a court jester" "dude we where like 10 ( insert age I don't know) your crown was made of yellow concruction paper and it bedazzeled"

Very good ideas; I think I'll use most of them, but bringing the girl back from the flashback is going too far on so many levels. It's a writing thing.

I think I understand on an intuitive level what you mean, but I'm not a big fan of intuition, so...could yo uplease explain? Just like with the can-and-can't-do's of spec scripts, I'm curious as to what the 'rules' for writing are. Just out of..well...curiosity
