i am now officialy hooked on this show (not as much as SVU but enough) it's not that bad of a show
Patcat
It's one of my two favorite shows (the other being MONK). I think LOCI charts a nice middle course between the other two LAW AND ORDER shows in that it tells us something about the characters while still leaving some gaps for the viewers to fill in. That's not to say I don't like the others: I do, but I actively seek out LOCI.

What it comes down to for most people is if you like the character of Robert Goren and how Vincent D'Onofrio plays him. I love both, but I can understand how the character and the performance could drive people crazy.

Patcat
Kelly1738
I agree, Pat. I think people either like or dislike the show based on how they like the Goren character and how he's played. I think it's interesting that even the anti-Goren/D'Onofrio people watch the show, the whole time protesting the show and/or the acting. To me that further supports how good the show and the characters (all of them) are - it evokes strong feelings (good and bad) and stimulates discussion from all sides. Not many shows can boast that.

Kelly

P.S. Case in point, I don't know too many people who dislike Desperate Housewives but still watch it.
thenumber20car
Goren is better than Columbo, a total genius!!! I still like Columbo, but Goren takes it to a different level.
mr_eastwood7
Goren rocks!! I never paid any attention to this show before last year. My wife was a big fan, and all I did was mock the intro music, playing air guitar and grimacing like a rock star. It irritated my wife. After a year or so of doing this and several times marginally paying attention, I started coming around to be a fan of the show. Now, I think I like it more than she does. Well, I LOVE IT!! My wife is now taking a fancy to SVU. Not too bad, but I love Goren's quirkiness.

See now..it's addictive. I cannot go a night without watching it, or I am grumpy the next day. I was told the other day when I finally got to watch my show (cause a bunch of movies had been coming on and I didn't get to watch my show)I was told I was in a good mood. I told they yeah cause I got to watch my favorite show last night. Thing is I have to stay up late to watch it, I can't see the early show most of the time because I have to get my kids ready for bed.

i've always been an SVU girl, but CI isnt bad either.

Svu is great too, I do like CI better, but Mariska is great! So are Meloni, Ice-T and Munch and Captain Craigan. They are all good. But I still like CI better because of Goran and Eames. Goran cracks me up and oh! I found out he was born in 59'.
soccermanic
so he's only like 46, that's not that old

Yeah, he's 18 years older than I am, but in People magazine there are alot of actors that go out with people 20 years younger than they are (no kidding)!
ElliotandOlivia
I know i did!
Christian
He's sniffs corpses which once led him to discover COD in a suspect because it's mouth smelled like walnuts(cianide poisoning). He poked a dead mans eyeball. He tastes things at the crime scene. Like in "Sound Bodies" when he tasted the "caulking" and discovered it was made with cake icing. And how about his propensity for asking weird and/or socially inappropriate questions?
Patcat
For all of his eccentricities, there's a reason for almost everything Goren does. He uses all of his senses to investigate a crime scene, and his inappropriate questions and behavior are usually meant to provoke some reaction from a suspect or witness.

Goren's tendencies to taste and smell things is one of the character's debts to Sherlock Holmes.

Patcat
Christian
That is why most people are turned off by this show. They do not understand that everything he does is well thought out. He thinks before he does everything and there is a purpose for all of the weird things he does.

I've noticed a lot of Sherlock Holmes' traits in him but his tendency to say 'Oh, and one more thing...' right before he leaves a suspect reminds a lot of Columbo.

Anyone remember Due South? The guy on that show was kind of the same way. At least when it came to sniffing and tasting stuff.
Ryu
Man, he's a genius, he uses every single one of his senses to figure out the crime. He pwnz.
wvdzlover
You are right. Bobby Goren is a genius. But just think how creative his creator is. The writer sure has a sharp mind and a real way with words, too.
AnimalsAreMyKids
lol maybe Goren should take the "R U Monkish" quiz!

...sorry, couldn't resist!...
Tamyra
I love the guy and the show--he is a little strange sometimes--maybe he has Aespergar's Disorder?
psychochik
O I dont think that Goren does, he's not socially inept. He has the ability to communicate and communicate well with people. He is a little wierd sometimes, but I think its just part of dealing with what he deals with. His questions to suspects are out there, but they are relevant.
If he had Aespergars I dont think he would be able to do his job effectively due to the inability to be social.
I think Goren's quirkiness is just him trying to be as good of a detective as possible. Quite obsessive !!
He should take the Monkish quiz, I'm sure he'd be pretty close to Monkish in my opinion.
Monique
Saw this episode for the first time last night. Was enthralled with Goren's acting out the crime at the end of the episode. Interesting counter to the other less credible "actor" in the same episode.
mrzdonofrio4lyfe
to me it proves that he is very multi-talented. like johnny depp(way hott!!! ) but anyway he very good i mean if u watch the other episodes where he pretends to be gay(last night) and he pretends o b a homeless dude or something else u begin to understand that he waaaaaay good . of course hes been in the biz for at least 19 years and he still looks like that!!!

what was the name of the eppy where he pretended to be gay?
Belz_da_Man
Vincent is definitely VERY talented. I love the way he brings his characters alive. His nick is 'Human chamelion'. He pretty much developed Goren's personality. You can't emagine enyone else being Goren, you just can't. This is a sight that he is a natural for it.

I'm not sure if Goren was pretending to be gay, but he did come off as some kind of metrosexual when he and Eames go to the shoe store in "Anti-Thesis."

Ahem.

Your attention, please.

"We, the undersigned, do humbly implore the writers, directors, producers and actors in 'Law and Order: Criminal Intent' to please, please, please ... let Bobby boogie once again.

Dancing has hugely beneficial effects that will doubtless help him recover from the rigours of the past season-and-a-half, notably:
  • A new captain jumping up and down on his head at every given opportunity
  • A whole lot of very nasty things to do with his poor dear mama
  • A whole lot of even NASTIER things to do with "Who the heck is my dad, then?!"
  • Frank. Say no more, just 'Frank'
  • The ever-present knowledge that She Who Must Not Be Named may well come back soon in order to haunt/ murder/ abduct/ seduce/ infuriate/ bake scones for (please delete as applicable) him
  • The whole business of being imprisoned and tortured
  • The whole business of being suspended and psychologically evaluated
  • The whole business of having to wear suits that somehow don't suit him. What is with that, anyway?

Thank you for your continued attention.

Yours sincerely,

The Slightly More Off-The-Wall fans of LOCI."

What a nice a way to start the day, thinking about Bobby dancing. He does always seem to be smiling when he's dancing doesn't he? And that can't be a bad thing. I am more than happy to second your motion.
daramrod
100% agree, he's good at it too
culen
Sign me up for this petition. They could put clues on the show about finding Donny and one of them is that he's joined a dance marathon and Bobby can only get in by joining as well and have Eames as his partner. I give this idea to the writers. Let's see those size thirteens boogieing.

Count me in Lozzie - and to help us make the point.

With VDO's bad knee and limited mobility in the past 2 seasons, I bet he wishes he could dance too.

Maybe he could take Eames for a twirl.

FMJ? Wow! That was a long time ago. He lives in a town with tons of access to orthopedists/surgeons/physical therapists/rehab specialists and he STILL has a 'bum knee'? He should take better care of himself.

Joint injury doesn't usually heal back to 100%. It'll always be a little off and prone to re-injury if you do the wrong thing. That's why when he runs on LOCI it looks a little funny sometimes. Also he sometimes seems to limp a little when he walks from time to time. I'm sure he takes care of himself, but there's only so much you can do with that kind of thing. He did do Naked Tango with said bad knee so... I have to add however that his weight gain I'm sure is not helping it stay well.

IN STARTING THIS THREAD IT WAS NOT MY INTENTION TO CREATE YET ANOTHER BLOODY 'OPPORTUNITY' TO HAVE A GO AT VINCENT.

I wanna see the man dance more !! c'mon.... i love his danceing!
culen
To me dancing is joy. Let the dancing and some joy inside his life and his knee would be fine. He just has to work up to it if he needs to. It doesn't have to be Boot Scootin Boogie, just some nice waltzes and twirls for the ladies. Even people with extremely limited mobility can do that and we all know how mobile he is. Hot, is it hot in here? Whew!

I wasn't trying to have a go, really!! I'm sorry if you thought that... sad.gif I was just stating a fact as I understood it. I won't say anymore on this.
gorengurl22
HELL YEAH!!! lets boogie!!! anything that has to do with goren dancing again gets my stamp of approval!!!
ktjeinuk
Can I pleeeeeaaaaaaassssseeeee sign on the dotted line for this one. Even just a little boogie as he is coming into the office will do me.. a slight tapping of the feet whilst he is sitting at his desk or a slight twirl as he walks back to the desk from picking up the latest fax.

Come on writers, you're all freshly back from the strike and must have lots of ideas bubbling up in your pretty little heads... get the man moving!!!

Yours awaiting the results eagerly

Oh heck yes. I would do almost anything to see him dance again. Definitely put me down on this petition.

I'm with all of you.

Let's bring Bobby back to his nearly-stabile, but quirky self. (Let's see, his Mom died last May, thanks to a summer hiatus and a Writer's Strike, he's had 9 months or more to mourn. He should be returning to normal.)

We've had enough sadness and angst for a while (Brothers Keeper, Endgame, Amends, Untethered).

I want to see Bobby "the Curious" again, with all his obscure facts, happily looking for "patterns" with marking pens and maps; poking his fingers into bodies (etc) and sniffing everything.

I want to see Eames returned to making "clever comments" instead of constantly covering for Bobby and supplying explanations for his outbursts and temper tantrums.

I'm not advocating that LOCI be turned into a comedy; it is a Police Drama. But, even in real Police Stations, there are "happy" occassions once in a while. One "lighter" episode every few years wouldn't hurt anything. (Even serious police dramas like Dragnet, etc had seasonal-themed episodes).

Let's see! Six weeks after the Strike ended, would mean the first new episodes would be aired somewhere around St. Patrick's Day or Easter. Goren and Logan (and maybe Eames) sound like an Irish names to me. I can see the our detectives and Ross trying to question and make logical sense of the comments of the only eye witness, who swears he/she saw Leprachauns (spelling?) or the Easter Bunny at the Crime Scene. (Maybe an Irish Jig or Reel could be inserted somewhere)

Maybe it could be made into a 4-detective episode, sort of a celebration of the end of the Strike, the return of Wheeler, and the birth of 3 baby boys (or is it 4, did I hear that someone else also had a "blessed event" in November or December). Vince, Chris, and Julianne all have new babies (and Kathryn's boy is what, 4 years old); they should all be happy; not depressed and morose.

After seeing Chris Noth dance on Ellen (how hot was that?!), I say let the whole squad have an opportunity to dance! I'm dying to see Ross and Rodgers dance! But, back on the topic at hand--yes! Please let Bobby dance!
