Campbell Scott must have heard a million times how good, how natural, how interesting an actor he is (no, I'm not forgetting director, producer) but I will stick to this show. Scott gives Boris a perfect and understated german accent, a wonderful and quietly resonant speech delivery hinting, from his first scene in the show, at the sadness and complexity of his character, no face twitches, grimaces or other amateurish acting tricks so much on display with other characters. WOW, I cant' wait for more.

Boris really brings Royal Pains up a notch. I usually find the show amusing and watchable, but Boris makes it intruiging as well. Campbell Scott brings a lot of talent and class to the Royal Pains table.

Teresa, I am soooooooo impressed that you watch this show! You have confirmed my belief that it is a great show. I really love Boris and I am glad he is taking care of Hank (despite Hank's tendencies for self destruction).

Royal Pains is a good show and it has lots of potential, but I have to say at this point I'm not too fond of the women characters. They are way too wishy washy for my taste. Jill should kick her "husband" to the curb and take up with Hank is that's what she really wants. If it's not she should cut him loose. I don't see what the problem is, clearly the ex is a jerk and Hank's not. So far Jill hasn't made me care enough about her to care who she chooses. Same goes for Divya. She's a grown woman who can't work up the nerve to tell her parents she wants to lead her own life. Sorry, I'm not sympathetic. What kind of parents prefer their daughter go into business rather than medicine? Doesn't sound to me like they have her best interests or society's best interests at heart. And marrying a man she doesn't love just to please them. This isn't the middle ages. She has many choices. She's the one who should man up. I'm guessing she'll do just that. In the meantime I don't see where she gets off questioning Evan's moral choices when she's basically living a lie.

Sorry, I've strayed way off the Boris topic.

Hey Teresa1643, I echo your OT comments about "the girls"! While not a Jill-Hater, she certainly has not "picked a lane" as far as men are concerned. Poor Hank, tho a brilliant MacGyver, is still the hapless victim to her wiles. Then there's Divya who also hasn't a clue how to claim her life. Raj knows what she is doing--he gave her the keychain which saved Daddy's life....but there is the distinct possibility that the wedding in London will NOT come off. As for honesty, Evan has her beat;at least you know where you stand with him!

What is the deal, however with Biff's comments to you?! You impressed him soooooo much and made it possible for him to believe that RP is a "great show". He won't get any argument from us--but what is your special power over Biff? Inquiring minds want to know!
Till next week: same bat time, same bat channel!

Biff and I hang out on the Monk message board. We have great respect for each other, but I have no special Biff power. I wish I did because that might come in pretty handy.

wink.gif Teresa, no need to be so modest! You know that you have me wrapped around your little finger. (Thank you for the kind words. I have always had the utmost respect for you. It is great that we both enjoy the same great TV shows, all things Monk & San Francisco - I love that City and wish I could spend more time visiting & exploring it!)

Yeah, Boris is my favorite character as well. I like his little helper that follows him around everywhere too. He is like a little cartoon character.

Whereas I also love Royal Pains, my main reason for watching is Campbell Scott. Perhaps HankMed should try to hire Hilary O'Neil as Boris' special nurse. It didn't hurt that the writers gave Christine Ebersol a tricolor Cavalier King Charles Spaniel named Koufax, my breed for the past 35 years.

"Boris" is the only reason I watch this show! He's so enigmatic! There's a bit of sadness to him, but I love the touches of humor, also. Did anyone notice the cello in his NY apartment? Such a melancholy instrument. I hope he shows up in the season finale.
RamonaR
I saw the cello, too, and a couple of other tidbits in both homes that add to the "unraveling" of his character. The "power" set up of Boris's office in the pilot made me hit the pause button at least three times. The set dressers/designers and location folks for the show constantly impress with their choices.

Campbell Scott is an awesome actor, and his gift with accents always amazes me. Check out his reading of Hemingway's For Whom the Bell Tolls, and for a totally different kind of German, watch The Impostors. I just wish I could see him on stage sometime.

Boris is definitely the character that keeps me coming back to the show.

I hope that season 2 will feature more of Boris....are you listening USA network

It's no surprise that Boris holds such fascination for us--what a classy guy! He is the epitome of old money: well-bred, understated, never drawing attention to himself. (Compare the antics of social-climbing Evan!) He is generous, well-connected, and smart. Yet, he may be disabled by an illness inherited from his family--what irony! I know he'll be back next season--all those other RP characters and wannabees drive us batty with their drama. We need him to be the super-rich solid guy who is watching from the shadows!
Till next time, Boris........

I just think Campbell Scott is HOT in a smooth and sophisticated kind of way. I'd like to see more of him! His character, BORIS, adds another, deeper, layer to the show.

smile.gif Thank you Teresa! That is so cool! Last time I was in San Francisco I was really surprised by how many Fire Trucks and Ambulances I saw racing around. I am really looking forward to the premier of TRAUMA
(I guess it is OK to plug Trauma on here since NBC owns USA)

Campbell Scott is another one of those men who just gets better with age. (I think of him from The Spanish Prisoner). I mean hubba hubba. I love his silvery hair and goatee. Just such a classy guy! So, glad he's in this show.

Till next time, Boris.......

How many languages do you suppose Boris speaks?

I've been amusing myself with possible story-lines for season 2.....with allot more of Boris....well here goes:

We all know that Boris is rich....but Boris is not only RICH he is also influential....he is a world class "Mover & Shaker" in the financial and political world. He has business interests all over the world and people like the (Gardeners), you know the rich family that is suing Hank with a wrongful death suit, go to Boris for loans. So often with the rich he finds himself at the top but has no one that he can count on when the chips are down.

When Boris came of age and took over the family business he found out just how much of the fortune had been bled off by the "unscrupulous associates", some of them relatives, that had taken advantage of his father during his illness and decline. So, he has spent time recouping the losses and rebuilding his business to the point that it should have been.

Boris has spent massive amounts of money on research specifically genetics when related to medicine. He has never married as he knows that his condition in inherited and he does not want to pass on the illness to his children. He is nearing the age that his father became ill so he begins to line out his business interests to the point that things can run themselves for awhile without him.

BUT....who can he trust with the knowledge of his illness.... who can he trust to initiate a "Incompetency" hearing when his mind starts to be affected? Quite literally the public knowledge of his illness will have drastic repercussions on his business and the world economy.

HANK shows up and saves the life of a guest, in the pilot, and Boris offers him the concierge position....it's like an answer to a prayer. Boris has full time intelligence on just about everyone he associates with and of course has Hank checked out thoroughly....also anyone else that Hank associates with. With continued good reports from the intelligence people about Hank Boris decides to offer Hank a chance to stay on and manage his illness.

Season 2 will show us more about Boris' complex life and his illness. Somewhere toward the end of season 2 he will have a worsening of the illness and a nurse will have to be hired. I have fantasies that the nurse will be a cousin of Hanks and of course be very attractive. Love blooms for Boris evey though it is a fated love.

So that is about it....the illness can be carried through many more seasons as I hope that RP will be on for a long time.

OK. Have to agree that I LOVE Campbell Scott and his character Boris! I didn't know much about him until I saw Royal Pains. In researching his past acting career - and producing and directing as well - I found out what about his eyes was familiar to me. Then, I found it in his bio - he is the son of George C. Scott (Patton).

Anyway - love the show and am hoping that there will be more, more, MORE of Boris' character next season!!
