all we know is that boris had an elevated serum CK level and is investing in immunology research on sharks...i'm entertaining a diagnosis of polymyositis, an adult onset autoimmune myopathy. what do you think?

now we know that boris's illness is inherited from his family history. his inability to relax his hand muscles following a handshake, a sign called myotonia, makes me think he could have some variant of myotonic dystrophy.

Good call. Myotonic dystrophy also exhibits what is known as "anticipation" which means that the disease has an earlier onset for younger generations with the disease, which would explain why Boris is already exhibiting symptoms.

However, I'm going to go out on a limb and say that it's something a bit more exotic. I suggest that Boris may have what is known as "McLeod Syndrome," which is a disease that only affects middle aged individuals, has implications with myopathy and causes dementia in some individuals (Boris' father?). In addition, McLeod Syndrome causes some individuals to not properly express the Kell antigen (an important component of the blood), which means that affected individuals will reject blood even of their own blood type (because it possesses the Kell antigen, and the individual doesn't). I think that perhaps the incident with the injection in "Nobody's Perfect" may have been due to this phenomenon rather than the rejection of "non-self" that was suggested by Hank (although Hank is ultimately right).

Anyway, this suggestion is a long shot, but it's the kind of rare disease that the writers of the show seem to like. Unfortunately, there is no cure for McLeod's, only treatment for some individuals.

That's my take on it. Thoughts?

Maybe Boris is a genetic chimera?

[size="3"]Everything you say might be true but this is USA . This is what is think caused Boris illness.

Now that Hank has Boris full family medical history going back over 800 years. And If he can find a German-English- Bavarin-Greek
Dictionary's.and can finally read all the medical data he will find something that was overlooked as not relevant .

One of Boris distant relations was a crusader he was bitten on the rump by a wolf when he was in the woods on a night of the full moon.when he had to take a dump. Thee days later he was spit on and bitten by a leper. The Wolf and the leper genes bonded in the Von Augusttine granting him and all his offspring a greater ability to heal , strenght , speed, and a longer life span and sex large drive.

Now eight hundred years later the bonded genes a starting to unbind . Boris will have to find leper genes and lupine genitic material
from a Bavarian wolf . This was no regular wolf if it is still alive Boris will have to find the wolf that is described in the journal of Von Austine the first. {Black as night with eyes of gold and with a tail with four gold rings}This search will take his people all over the world
he will have them bring four specimins 2 male 2 female and have them shipped to a animal sanctuary in Germany.

Once the genetic material was extracted from the wolf's and mixed with the leper's and centrufuged together hank will have his cure.
For Boris and everyone in his family it will give them all a lifespan of 360 years.

I'm not into medicine but here is what I picked up about his illness:
1.) Blood: He owns a shark so I think they may have something to do with it.
2.) Self medication: He was self medicating possibly with blood from the shark. Even if it wasn't from a shark, that could be dangerous.
3.) His grip: I was watching this week's episode today and noticed that when he was shaking hands with Hank, he couldn't let go. This led me to believe that he must have had some temporary peralisis (sp!). Later on, he was self medicating himself to possibly temporarily relieve this paralisis (sp!).
4.) Sight: He mentioned that he had some blurry vision so maybe whatever he has could be affecting his sight, or maybe that's just a side effect of the self medication.
5.) The discarding of the original blood sample: Jill discarded it and until Boris lets Hank take another sample and run some tests, we won't know for sure what he has and therefore Hank won't be able to treat is as effectively.

Boris and Hank are so much alike! Each man is a professional down to his toes. Each man needs help, yet wants to solve a serious problem himself, rejecting the help of a capable friend until, cornered, he grudgingly accepts assistance. And each man values and knows how to protect private information.
