This has gone too far. True fans of James Roday/Shawn Spencer and the rest of the cast need to boycott these wannabes. Anyone can copy an original idea. Of course, it can't be exactly the same, so writers tweak the characters in "interesting" ways, seeing nothing but dollars signs. In fact, these tweaks subtract from the original. No one would have ever thought of imitating Psych unless it's raw potential was obvious. And Psych refines this potential like no other wannabe show can.
This reminds me of the music industry, which snatches up anything similar to an original genius that introduced a new sound. This is why the market is flooded with worthless crap. Join me if you vote for quality!
That poser was nominated for a best actor Emmy, and that fact is nothing less than BOGUS.
James Roday, you are the best! Don't ever change, or cater to the Man. We love you!
Give it a break, man. First of all, you used the word "boycott" incorrectly. Boycotting is the refusal to buy something. Psych is free. You pay the cable company to watch TV, however. If you boycotted them, you'd end up with no Psych. Secondly, the premises of the two shows aren't even the same.
The Mentalist is about a man who
used to pretend to be a psychic, but then his family was murdered, and he joined forces with the police to capture the murderer, among hundreds of others. Everybody knows he's not a real psychic now.
Psych is about a man who pretends to be a psychic when he is forced with lying or going to prison, and ends up helping to solve cases for the police department. Everybody thinks he's a psychic.
The Mentalist is a drama;
Psych is a comedy-drama (more emphasis on the comedy, of course).
Simon Baker is a good actor, and he did a good job portraying the Mentalist; that's why he was nominated for an Emmy.
So do us all a favor and zip it. They're both good shows.
