Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to say that I have noticed a recent increase in the USA characters' use of phrases like "God damn". I wince every time. My problem with it is that saying 'God damn' (or similar phrases) are unnecessary and do not enhance the dialog in anyway.

If the character doesn't believe in God, why use God's name at all Or if the character does believe in God, he/she wouldn't use God's name in vain. So, why use that type of language... it is not necessary and can be offensive to some people.

What do you think?

That just depends on the character and the way that they talk. If you're already through a few seasons, and they're using that sort of language already, in a sort of often manner, you can't really just remove it, can you? It's already a part of the person, it's already a character trait. That's like making Sneezy from Snow White not have any nasal problems.

It's there because that's how people talk. God's name is used in vain everyday, many many times. You can't walk down the street, hear people saying it and just make them stop. People say it in everyday life, and I think that's why it's there. Characters in TV shows aren't perfect, they're supposed to be like real people. So, why make them seem less human?
