I am so very disappointed with the last episode. First, Raph is joking with Mary after she tells him what she does. That is so out of character. Then, I've seen every episode, or so I thought, and never once did I think that Brandy and Raph were remotely interested in each other, except for their connection/love for Mary. Then for more confusion, there's a glimpse that Marshall may be interested in Mary as more than a partner.
Stop it. Stop it now. One, I really dislike Brandy's character. She complains constantly, but lives off her sister and now the rich AA boyfriend.
Raph is perfect for Mary. He respects and understands her. I can't believe the writers have taken so much time getting Mary to open up to him, shown him as being a loving and caring boyfriend, and finally allowed the engagement to happen only to disrupt it all by suggesting a possible breakup.
Marshall's brilliant. Why can't a man with his intellect partner up with a woman without sex? For the first time on television in a very long time, this series shows a working relationship with respect and support, using honesty and humor in a strenuous working environment. So what do they do? Hint at making Marshall and Mary romantically involved. We all know, if this happens, one of them has to go because WTSEC would not allow interoffice relationships. I really like them both especially their intelligent give-and-take.
Raph understands and accepts Mary's relationship with her sister and mother; and, her abandonment issues causing her need to be in control/feared. He wants to create a good home life for the two of them. He believes that she has the ability to change but understands that it will not be overnight (i.e., not running away after Mary said no the first time he proposed, being there when Brandy was arrested, thinking about their future together, et al.). The engagement was a shining light. He is a physically and emotionally strong man, who knows how and when to weld his power. He understands that she needs to correct her dysfunctional familial relationships, especially the love/hate relationship she has for her father, and that he can't force her to change immediately. The idea that he would lust after a user like Brandy is so far out of character it makes me question if the appropriate care by the writers has become too much or someone is looking for cheap ratings.
Since I am afraid that this possible relationship with Mary and Marshall, or one with Brandy and Raph, may lead to one of the characters being written out, I suggest that Brandy be allowed to get her own place and move on with her life. Instead of asking her new boyfriend for a car, she should have asked him to allow her to live in one of the many properties he owns.
Release the leech Brandy, and if you want more drama, let us find out that Marshall is gay.
