Loved the last few episodes where Mom gets involved in the spy biz...she's one tough cookie and is a wonderful foil and humor boost for Michael's uber-seriousness on the job...note to writers keep her in as part of the team effort!

I agree with you wholeheartedly. Sharon Gless absolutely rocks it as Madeline and I really would like to see more of her in upcoming episodes. It was absolutely hilarious in The Hunter when she went out into the garage and got the info Sam and Fi couldn't get out of the guy and her methods of getting it were just priceless.

I was thinking about Madeline a few days ago and i started wondering what her job used to be. Does anyone know if they mentioned it before?? because im pretty curious what her career was.

I can't recall a mention of Madeline having a career. But since they didn't mention it, it's not too late for them to create one. One of the things I liked best about her involvement is seeing Michael's reaction. Of course, I have to mention how Sam and Fiona react to her as well. They've become a little "family" in a way. And Michael sure doesn't feel the same way about his Mom as he did in the Pilot. The writers really developed Madeline's character. She's a whole lot different now than the Madeline (with the wig) they originally introduced.

Who would have thought back after the pilot first aired, when so many on these boards where complaining about Madeline saying they needed to get rid of her there would come a day when many on the boards would be saying they wanted to see more of her on the show. smile.gif

It's great isn't it the way all of the characters have developed over the seasons.

You know, I always assumed she was a housewife. In the 1970s and 80s, the number of mothers with children who worked was in the 55-65% range, so there were still a good number of women who didn't have careers. Plus, it sounded like they only had one car for quite a while and had a fairly low income, based on the fact that Michael stole both cars and food. Arguably, Madeline's salary could have gone to paying bills, leaving little left over. In which case my bet would be clerical work. I just can't really picture her as a waitress or working in a day care (though who knows).

I also enjoy seeing the interaction between Madeline and everyone else. I agree with Li Ann that they have become a family, and I think its really sweet. Though sometimes I think they make her too much of an ultimate always-right character. Its hard to cite specific instances because I don't know how the writers are themselves interpreting what they have her say, its just sort of a feeling I get from time to time. Still, really enjoy her in the show, esp. with Sam and Fiona, and love Sharon Gless who acts EVERYTHING awesomely all the time.

I agree with you, too, Kriztay. I love how they've developed Madeline over the past two seasons. She's obviously a woman with a lot of inner strength and in her awareness of the danger that Michael is often in, she's channeling that strength into resourcefulness and courage. She a protective mother, for sure, but she also has shown to be very intuitive and tough. Am hoping the writers will further develop these traits in her character.

And welcome to the BN board, Kriztay!! biggrin.gif

If the rumors are true, it looks like Madeline will continue to be a bit more involved.

Spoiler:
since she is the one assigned to get information out of Tyne Daly when that episode finally airs.
