On a more serious note, I'd be sad if Julianne left. She meshed to well with Goldblum/Nichols. I like the general lightness of their episodes and that whole character interaction Ross - Nichols - Wheeler was absolutely interesting. Also, the whole pregnancy storyline added a lot to Wheeler's character.

And for the capacity phrasing: I think it's got to do with syndication of CI. CI is fairly widely syndicated, I'm guessing that VDO and KE want their share. Rightfully so.

It's kinda funny when you look at it: since for 4 seasons now, we always see big enough changes on CI. The fact that it's still running despite the rocky roads, says a lot about our show

But like I said it already if B/A are gone, so am I! And I would really hate to see Eames still there and Bobby gone (or vice versa) *gasps*
Either it's the two of them or neither! They can't be apart!

And I'm really not a fan of the switching team thing. Like in "Major Case" and "Revolution" (which were two good eps imo), seeing Eames without Bobby made me miss him so much and that took away part of my enjoyment. I really hope something like that doesn't have to happen again.

Put on your seat belts!! Here we go again with another nerve wracking irritating rollercoaster ride from USA. After last years fiasco you would think a multi-million dollar operation would have learned something from their viewers!!

Right now the only true thing we know is that Julianne isn't coming back,which IMO is a shame.It seemed that she was really coming into her own with JG. They really complimented each other.

The rest is just hype and speculation and until USA feels like throwing us a few crumbs we get to wait and see.
Between the forum, tapes and dvd's I can wait out the storm!! The only problem is while I am entertaining myself, I am not watching commercials on USA! Man that really sucks!!!!

Yes i remember Alicia Witt as Nola Fallaci, i didnt mind her character at all, pity she cant come back.

I also agree with Charlene, everyone should stay where they are. But if JN decides to leave, I guess there isn't much we can do. Besides, she might want to spend more time with her two kids

defix, it does say no agreement settled yet, but I can't see VDO and Erbe not signing for another season. Do you have any news on that?Also, it doesn't make sense for JG to only sign for 1 year, seems odd?

Actually they have been doing 1 year contracts since season 6, season 5 was the end of the five year ones, Jamey Sheridan left as did Courtney B Vance, from then on its been season to season. All this hold up comes down to negotiations, depending on who wants what, the $$$$$$ factor, and any other terms put forward. This happened before in S7, a big hold up wanting more $$$$$$$, its a wait and see game, so be patient, but i have no doubts we will see LOCI back for another season.

Yep, IMO, VDO&Erbe deserve more money! Look how successful they made LOCI, and the many years as well.

Saffron Burrows is in negotiations to join USA Network's drama "Law & Order: Criminal Intent."

USA and the show's producers from Dick Wolf Films declined comment on the casting, but sources indicated Burrows would be tapped to play a new partner for Detective Zach Nichols (Jeff Goldblum).

Julianne Nicholson, who plays Detective Wheeler, recently had her second child.

"L&O: Criminal Intent," which revolves around the four detectives from the Major Case Squad, also stars Vincent D'Onofrio as Detective Robert Goren and Kathryn Erbe as Detective Alexandra Eames.

Saffron Burrows is a heck no in my book. She sucked (to me) in My Own Worse Enemy. I'd rather see Olivia d'Abo return as Nicole Wallace next season before I see Burrows take Nicholson's spot as Jr. Detective!

Alicia Witt was NOT very well liked at all by most older fans of "CI" (especially those who are older "franchise" fans who mainly only watched the Logan episodes of "CI" solely because of Chris Noth) when she was on two seasons ago. Many would hate her return. Saffron Burrrows is enough of a "name" that she likely will bring her fans to the mix, though I personally would have tried to get Holly Marie Combs, who still has a significant number of fans of Charmed (even though "Charmed" ended in 2006) to make the move east and take over if Ms. Nicholson is leaving as rumored.

You might like her Charlene, she's very pretty, although I don't know what she has acted in, anyhoo, take it easy on the Abbreviations! Would be greatly appreciated.

I wonder if they considered the actress that played Bishop with Goren on the episodes when Eames was having her baby. I've forgotten her name.

I would LOVE for Falaaci to come back. As Wally said (and as was shown very well here on this board), fans were definitely divided about Falaaci. I was very much in the Falaaci Rocks camp. I loved everything about her; from her black nail polish, to the way she annoyed Ross and Rodgers, to her Princess coffee cup, to her gentleness with the parents in Senseless. But of course there were those who hated her every bit as much as I loved her. Plus, it's possible Alicia Witt only signed up to fill in because it was temporary and she wasn't interested in anything permanent. Who knows.

I can't really comment on Saffron Burrows. I watched My Own Worst Enemy for the first few episodes, but never really clicked with it and gave up. I honestly don't remember her character. But so far I've liked every lead character they have given us on LOCI. So I'm going to wait and see who they actually bring in and give her the chance to win me over just as the others have.

I am actually a little worried about VDO and KE not returning. Their episodes do not fit into the USA Network mold. In Plain Sight, Psych, Monk, Royal Pains, are all light, fluffy shows with humor. Some drama, nothing too deep.
Jeff Goldblum's style fits the new fluffy mold too (IMO). With his sarcasm and smirks.

Plus VDO and KE are expensive.

I'm sure Jeff would take on a full series load, not half like now. He has not had much of a career for a long time. It doesn't matter who his partner is, it could be a monkey, and it would still be all about Jeff. He really dominates his episodes. He has been a great addition.

So I am paranoid. I don't want VDO and KE to just appear briefly to be phased-out.

If that were the problem, I dearly hope the execs would tell the writers to change the tone of the stories, rather than fire them.

That would change the whole tone of the G/E episodes and what the show has been about all along. Would VDO and KE go for that?

Would it kil them if Eames were snarky again? I think the writers for JG and JN did a great job, if the execs don't like the VDO/KE eps just change the writers. It isn't rocket science, but it might be over the execs' heads.

Hi! I'm new here, and after reading all the posts, I'M getting paranoid about VDO and KE leaving. Why must we always wait and wonder like this. The fans of this show have stuck with this show through a lot, not just cast changes. There's been the writer's strike, and a network change, split casts, deferred premiere dates, deferred premiere dates again, and now we get to contemplate what "in some capacity" means. If USA really is paying attention, pay these actors for their work. The fans of this show have been riding along over all these bumps in the road just to watch these two characters play. Can any of the fans of your welcome characters say that?

Welcome videofan! JMO, I don't think VDO and Kate's going anywhere right now, I think they will replace JN, she stays pregnant anyway! I don't think anyone should worry, just makes your head hurt, and until there's an official announcement, stay tuned for season 9, probably March, 2010, MO.

Some characters are more welcome than others, apparently. It makes me mad, these people running the networks seem to have no appreciation of good work, or what I always consider good work. But I wonder, how much of this is the execs' problem, how much is Dick Wolf et al's?

Oh, I've got something to say about the possibility of Burrows working on CI . . . People, open your eyes to the possibilities! Goren and Eames would have to work side by side with a woman who is a Brit! After what Nicole Wallace put them through . . . this has huge potential. I know they can tell the difference, and be professional on the outside, but at some point that tone and that accent ought to be hardwired into the both of them, Eames would probably hate it subconsiously, but Goren . . . I've always said the two had amazing chemistry onscreen. It makes me wish Rene Balcer and Stephanie Sengupta were writing again, but the new writers will probably crap all over this.

If the show format stays the same, and if Ms. Burrows is joining the cast as a replacement for Julianne, when would Goren and Eames ever interact with her? Goren has never interacted with JG or Julianne's characters.

I am still hoping that they have a new strong ADA join the show. Courtney Vance is in a new show that premiers this week, as is Jamie Sheridan.

I would SO vote for Alicia Witt instead to be back on the show. I think she did a great job, though she was probably signed just for the replacement. But-uh... we'll see.

I had never heard of Saffron Burrows before

A few things to mention, first on the Criminal-Intent US board a member who says she has a contact at USA writes that the prmiere of season nine will be March 20th 2010 and it will be a 2 hour show, her contact would give no further info. Second: Staten Island is available for ordering at amazon.com, price is $17.49 for regular DVD or BluRay. Third: There is a really nice picture of Vince on TheReel site it was taken on Friday at the Rib City Grill, they raised over one hundred thousand and counting for the Utah Meth Cops Project. Also if you look at the photo and compare it to the one below it taken in 2007 with Vince and his sister and brother-in-law you will see he has definately taken off a lot of weight since the show ended, he looks Fine.......... Enjoy!!

Alicia Witt attended the Emmy's last night, she has a role now on Friday Night Lights, playing a young mother of a 16 year old, so it won't be her, and I too have never heard of Saffron Burrows, but she looked very attractive. Here's the pic with maybe the replacement for JN, go to Ausiello Files, the story about a shake-up of LOCI is there from Sept.16, 2009. It said this girl is not 100% joined LOCI, but that JN opted out on her own not to return. Sorry, I don't know how to do links, google it.

March 20 sounds about right. That would have "CI" airing on Sundays through late July (assuming pre-emptions for Memorial Day and July 4 and a 16-episode season), however we are six months away from that and it could change a time or two before then.

They haven't had a two-hour episode since "In The Wee Small Hours". In my paranoia, the two-hour episode cannot be good for Goren. I think it will be a big send-off for VDO, with Eames and Nichols then pairing up. This new Saffron gal would be the new ADA.

I am not feeling good about this at all.

May I respectfully suggest that this gloom and doom attitude be banished please? We are getting a two-hour episode as an opener because the crossover ep needs to be that long to be done right. VDO is not going anywhere. The ONLY reason people keep this nonsense up is because there are any number of people on the 'Net with nothing better to do than post rumor and innuendo.

The more people keep talking about this, the more rumors they post.

That is as of now. We are a long way off from next spring when "CI" premieres its ninth season (assuming it is renewed, remember, there still is no official word yet from anyone at NBC-Universal on a renewal), and there likely will be more than a few changes in their plans between now and then.

A lot depends on USA's other shows, and what new shows USA Network has planned between now and the spring.

Would you look at us? Our experiences with this show have made us a bunch of single-issue paranoid conspiracy nuts! We're perfectly fine talking about other subjects, but oh boy, bring up this show and we woudn't believe the sky is blue. We should have our own wing in the mental hospital.

I think that March 20th information is wrong. 'Cause I just calculated and it turns out to be a Saturday ... Maybe my calculations are wrong?

In order to have that spring release, the deal will be sewn up very soon and filming will begin. By the time the premier happens, none of this will matter. Until the end of next season. Then the rumors and innuendo will start again, just like every year. And I will cheerfully rip the rest of the hair out of my head trying to calm everyone down.

And there is an "unoffical" word from Rene Balcer. In an interview on BlogTalkRadio a caller asked him: "Are you still consulting on Season 9?" And Rene answered, Uh, yeah...not on a full time basis...but...uh...you know...I'm very friendly with the current showrunner Walon Green, and we have a number of conversations about the direction of the show, but it's really his show now...I just collect the check off of it... (he and caller both laugh)...

Sounds pretty "done" to me. As well as the news on CI-US from someone in the business with actual reliable contacts who spoke about the season opener that will be two hours long. S9 may not be announced yet, but it's only a matter of time.

And let's be realistic people. TPTB know that if VDO and KE go, the show tanks. Just like they knew that if Meloni and Hargitay left, SVU would tank. The deal will be made and the show will go on. No sense getting our panties in a bunch over nothing.

There is no doubt in my mind that there will be a Season 9, especially after seeing this ad on the reelblog yesterday. A Season 9 doesn't matter to me if VDO is not still with the show. That is my concern.
