Hi guys!
Our monthly 'Girls' Night Out' is going to be a night IN this month. I want to take advantage of the captive audience to try to recruit new Psych-Os. Not counting the pilot, what episode do you all recommend I show someone who's never seen Psych?
I myself was already watching USA because of Monk, so I've been with Psych since the first episode aired. I know what episodes I like, but whether or not they'd work the best to hook a newbie is the question.
For example, I really like '9 Lives,' and our group includes more than one cat lover. However, Shawn's 'Dazzle and Stretch' routine might be a little off-putting to someone who's never seen the show.
So, what do you recommend? Did you yourself arrive late to the party? What episode drew you in?

Ooh...let's see. I have three:
Spelling Bee
Scary Sherry
Shawn and Gus of the Dead (my sis saw this one first and was hooked ever since)
Enjoy!

im getting the boys i watch into the show!
i havent shown them spellingg bee yet but its still one of my favorites.
just dont do an episode that has a lot of backstory, like "ghosts" or something.
do an episode that is pretty much all about the case and not about character development.

I agree with a strong preference for "Bounty Hunters". It has everything; action, romance, humor. Juliet gets to cry. Lassiter shows that he
is a great partner. 'I call it very close talking'. Isn't this the 'labrodoodle' episode, as well? When you add in a little of the super-sniffer you can not go wrong with this one.

Well the first episode I saw was Gus Walks Into a Bank and that was pretty great. But usually when I show someone an episode for the first time I usually go with Lights Camera Homicidio or American Duos. Or maybe Spellingg Bee.
And I think that if people like humor, the 'Dazzle and Stretch' scene might draw them in even more. I thought it was hilarious!

My favorites are definitely Spellingg Bee and 9 Lives, which are two of the first episodes I ever saw. Spellingg Bee has the humor and the psychicness, and since it's only the second episode your friends won't have missed anything that's referred to in this eppy that happened in another eppy.
And I found the "Dazzle and Stretch" routine a very funny representation of how crazy Shawn can be with his visions, so it might reel your friends in more.
Also, if you really want to, "Forget Me Not" might be a good one because of the "I am Hans Yoergenstein(or whatever it is) and this is my colleague, Dr.Mc*click click click*Tock," bit :]

Spellingg Bee seems to be a very good choice since it serves as a middle ground because shawn and gus are still newbies in the field and at the same time are able to deliver results plus there's not much back story. It's just good old fashion "psychic" work (which always wins out, sorry Lassy)
Another good choice is
Rob-a-Bye Baby, again there's not much back story plus the fact that it's the first episode i watched and next thing i knew, i was living and breathing psych.
Then again, there are
Talk Derby to Me- it's so fun to see Jules in character for her undercover and there's a little bit of romance there especially the couple skates- and
Forget Me Not - their Dr. Jorgenson and Dr. McTock scene i think are enough to get them laughing and get hooked as well

I'd 100% say The Old and the Restless

I think I would go with "American Duos" for a first timer.
Great guest stars here and Shawn and Gus singing and performing is
highly entertaining.
But Spellingg Bee and 9 Lives are good choices as well.

Spellingg Bee or Bounty Hunters! would by my choices!

I'll second the pick for American Duos. It allows people to connect with something that is already familiar to them (Idol), while they're getting their dose of Psych's take on it

Spellingg Bee and American Duos are both great, but I personally like Bounty Hunters the best.
I showed my friend Bounty Hunters and she was immediately hooked! Now we talk about/watch Pych together all the time!

And, as long as you are showing American Duos... 65 Million Years runs right after that and is another good episode that also shows a really good side of Lassie

Personally, I wouldn't go with Bounty Hunters, because while Shules fans love the ending, I don't think the "close talking" scene is really a good indicator of Psych and may lead your friend to think that the show tends towards romances like so many other shows do, rather than being the unique show that Psych is. But that's also the opinion of an anti-Shules viewer.

If you're looking more first season... to give an episode closer to the start, I think another really good one is Weekend Warriors. It has some great scenes really showing Shawn's 'true' abilities vs. his 'psychic' abilities. Also has a pretty good mystery to it. Did I mention it has Lassie?

Have to show him off as well.
Earth to Starbucks is another favorite episode from the first season. Really though, I think most episodes do the show justice. Then again, I'm a slightly obsessed Psych-O who likes to rub myself in the nectar that is Psych. So I might be biased.

Winky, good point! I do agree that Weekend Warriors shows both sides of Shawn very clearly- "psychic" vs. highly observant- as evidenced by his memorizing the model of the battlefield for one thing. It's a good way for someone unfamiliar with the show to get some clarity on what he's all about.
On another note- 6 feet under the sea was the first eppy I ever watched, and almost got turned completely off the show because of it. I love the eppy now, but it was probably a really bad choice as a first eppy.

it all depends on the kind of person they are
horror movie person- Duh, Tuesday the 17th
romantic movie person-bounty hunters or yang
detective show person-meat is murder, but murder is also murder
80's person- America Duos
cluesless people-spellingg bee: the girl in the piolet might confuse them

so thoes are my 5 catigories, not very many, but most people fall into one of thoes, kinda

I actually got my best friend hooked onto "Psych" thanks to my Season 1 DVD. I told her about the show and she said to give it a shot so I let her look at the episode list. She wanted to watch the Pilot since she didn't know what was going on. So I showed her that and she loved it!!!! We also watched "Spelling Bee?", "Weekend Warriors", "From the Earth to the Starbucks", "9 Lives", "Scary Sherry: Bianca's Toast" (on Halloween), "American Duos", and "Lights, Camera, Homicido" since then. We also watch them On Demand and since then, I know she saw the one where they go undercover on a football team (I'm drawing a blank on the name) and "Tuesday the 17th"

Scary Sherry - it's a good mystery, funny, and you get some great character developement.
The first ep I saw was Shawn (and Gus) of the dead. Watched it when it aired, and just kinda forgot to get back into Psych when it returned, although I always laughed at the previews. The day 6 Feet Under the Sea aired I saw 'Gus Walks into a Bank' that morning on the minimarathon, and fell completely in love with Psych. So yeah, either of those definetly. But they are all so awesome it's hard to pick lol.

I had never watched "Psych" until I found Season 1 episodes on this website.
The first one I was watched was "Shawn Vs. the Red Phantom". That made me a fan, although I have many faves. So, I'd say use that for a newbie!

I have been thinking about trying to get my friends into the show and glad this topic was started... I love the show and want to share my love w/ the world (or at least my world of friends)... I understand that Spelling Bee has some good qualities, but I think Weekend Warriors brings all the elements of the show together, comedy, psychic-ness, and Shawn's relationship w/ his dad
Cheers to all the episodes put on this board except for Black and Tan... It has some good qualities, but I really don't think it'd be a good intro for a new viewer... Doesn't really have all the great elements that is Psych though it does have some good comedy... I just have never really felt that one would show the love

I'd say either
Bounty Hunters,
Cloudy with a Chance of Murder, or
She Loves Me, She Loves Me Not.....
They all capture "the essence Psych", shall we say :]

To get my sister to watch the show I had her watch Light, Camera... Homicidio because she is majoring in Spanish so I knew I could talk her into taking the time to watch it. Plus it is one of my favorites. My sister is now a fan.

Spellingg Bee is a good one, that was the one that got my sister hooked=)
And Forget Me Not is a good one as well. The 'Simba, I am your father' line made my cousin laugh for the entire day. He kept bringing it up and then he begged me to watch more episodes=) And that's the one I used to convert most of my family on my mom's side.
