I didn't see a thread for this episode, but if anyone finds one just bump it to the first page and I'll merge the two threads.
Egocentric poet Jacob Garrety would do anything to keep his poetry journal, The Village Quarterly, afloat. While Jacob enjoys the advances of arts patron Sandra Dunbar at a poetry reading, his assistant Lauren carries out his wish, and winds up dead on the street. Detectives Nichols and Wheeler discover the deadly passion that exists behind the arts. Catch the premiere of "Passion" Sunday, July 12 at 9/8C on USA.

It sounds a little similar to 'Self-Made' from Season 7.

Yes it was! I am loving having Rodgers at the crime scenes. And I love her hair.
Oh, I forgot to remind everyone....if you post and details about the show, please use the spoiler feature until the West Coast people have a chance to see it. Thanks.

Don't forget the spoilers tags until the West Coast has watched the epi (I don't care, I like to be spoiled, but not everyone does).
Also, I'll watch the epi online when I can (I'm in Canada), but can someone plz describe any previews at the end of the epi as broadcast, because the online versions don't have them.

I liked this episode but not as much as the N/W episodes in the past. I'm not really into poetry that could be why. Still I enjoyed it.

This is a lot like how my poetry professor taught us iambic pentameter. "da-DAH, da-DAH, da-DAH, dah-DAH, da-DAH."
It's still my favorite form of poetic verse.

Did you notice that when Wheeler's line (paraphrased) "If my kid wants to be a poet, I'll tell her to be . . ."
Was Megan/Julianne telling us she is expecting a girl? If I remember correctly, we first learned that Julianne was pregnant in December or January; that would mean the baby would be due in August or September (3-8 weeks from now)!

So does Nichols really have an ex-wife, or was that just for Sandra's benefit? (is that her name?)
The only thing I would say about Nichols and a possible ex-wife is that the personal history of the guy hasn't been totally clear. During one interrogation in "Salome in Manhattan", he tells the kids his mom is dead. Later, though, Ross reminds him (and tells the audience) that his mom isn't dead. The other time the ex-wife is mentioned ("In Treatment"), it seems more like a ploy to keep the group therapy session going rather than an actual person. Until we get an on-screen confirmation I'd be skeptical. Ditto with the daughter, who has never been mentioned at all on screen.
But, hey, what do I know?

Julianne has already had a baby girl (I think she was born in June, but don't quote me on that). Yay!
Megan Wheeler, on the other hand, is supposed to give birth sometime soon on the show. Jeff apparently told a reporter that Julianne actually filmed scenes on going into labor in the squad room, but I think we'll have to wait for the next episode with Nichols and Eames (which I am really excited to see!)

Did it remind anyone of (I'm going in the way-back machine now) Vanilla Ice trying to explain how he didn't steal "Under Pressure?"

Oh, I laughed hysterically as the whole exchange between the poet and Nicholes was just like Vanilla Ice explaining himself. Of course, I laughed hysterically years ago during the various interviews V. Ice gave "explaining" the Da-dahs.

Julianne had her baby girl April 30, according to a broadway publication.
As for the episode, I found it interesting, but at the same time, not my favorite of the Wheeler/Nichols episodes. Really did like Wheeler though, when she commented about wanting to smack the poet. What are any one else's thoughts on it?

I was never a Goldblum fan, before, so I wasn't excited about him coming on board. I have to say, though, that my mom and I were pleasantly surprised at his acting in the first N/W ep of the season, even if the storyline left something to be desired. I was actually worried that his eps would surpass the G/E eps. I was okay w/ the first few N/W eps, but then I think I lost interest. I enjoyed "In Treatment", but I haven't been interested in the last few. Maybe since Goren is coming out of his funk, now, the N/W eps have lost some appeal. I didn't care for "The Glory That Was" or the poet one that just aired. After the last one aired, my mom even said that Jeff was okay, but he doesn't come close to Goren. Personally, I never really cared for the Logan/Barek ones, except for a few. It just seems like that team gets the musician/sex/flashy tabloid storylines most of the time, which seem more trivial. At first, when Goren was still so depressed, it was refreshing to see Nichols and his funny stuff. Now, though, it just seems same-old same-old to me, like it's outstayed its welcome, like Nichols already needs a new bag of tricks. I much prefer the darker, more serious storylines w/ Goren and Eames. I just enjoy the drama and complicated stuff a lot more. Didn't mean to insult the Goldblum fans, but I don't usually care for that team's storylines.

Hey,
I only got to see "Passion" later than usual, but I did like it. One thing that I thought would've made it better was if we knew that Sandra killed Lauren from the beginning, because it might have made it easier to concentrate on her "intent".
It was good the way it was, though. I knew that she was in love with him from the first scene, although I almost expected her husband to be the murderer.
So Wheeler is having a girl! How cool. And obviously, Nichols already knew, because he didn't ask about it.
Ross was less present in this than in the past.
I liked how Nichols shoved around people, however I think JG's take on that was different from VDO's. Goren always played stupid and hide his "poking around" or "mind games" under a layer of naiveté, Nichols didn't.
I loved the "bad" poetry recital, and I loved the way he smiled at Jacob during intergation. And I think I've said it in every thread since this season started, but Wheeler/Nicholson are so much fun now!
Posted a little goof to my blog, just follow the link in the siggy.

I laughed so good about your comment, I had to use it!
I don't have a real method to catch these, it just depends. Some I detect while screencapping (like the gloves/scarf in FV or the hands in Dead - also, they stem from my obsession with VDO's hands), because then there's a tendency to look at the pictures very closely. Others, a certain movement will jump out at me, like the needle throwing in "Suite Sorrow", and I'll watch that so often that I'll see it at the end. I rarely see them on first viewing, but it does happen then when I do a second viewing that I think to myself... "Ok, desk scene coming up, let's see if they have arranged all items correctly."
That one I actually caught on first viewing, but only because Jeff played so "campy" that I paid a lot of attention to his body language.
