Full Version: Disgusted Borat Being Advertised

Come on, USA Network! You have some of the best series in television history! What could be better than House, In Plain Sight, Burn Notice and Royal Pains?? Why would you find it necessary to air something as coarse and vulgar as Borat, or for that matter, anything starring Sacha Baron Cohen? Enough with the suggestive commercials, I'm tired of trying to explain them to youngsters. I'm incredibly disappointed that my favorite network has reached into the gutter for programming.

They're obviously running Borat as a promotional tie-in with Bruno. Bruno is being released by Universal, and USA is owned by NBC Universal. Or, uh, something like that.

Besides that, Borat, while undeniably crude and not meant for younger viewers, is more of a cultural satire than suggestive and vulgar trash. I didn't have much interest in it until recently, and decided to watch it for free on USA rather than pay for it. It wasn't nearly as bad as I had expected, and some of what they filmed was very revealing and right on the mark. The scene with the frat boys spouting prejudiced nonsense and openly wishing they could enslave women or the Birmingham socialites having a cow as soon as an African American woman entered their home (prostitute or not) both disgusted me far more than any of Baron Cohen's goofy antics.

BAron Cohen is actually a very brave and intelligent man, when you think about it. He's virtually invented a whole new genre of comedy film and he's put himself in danger more than once to see it through. Even if you think the guy's disgusting or crude or what have you, you should at least give him props for dressing as a gay man and interviewing skinheads and the like.

Also keep in mind that SVU also runs on USA and has for some time. It's a fine show, but not exactly family-friendly entertainment.

Why would USA Network stoop so low to air BORAT and from what I have seen BRUNO is another disgusting piece of work which does not deserve to be shown on any Network let alone USA Network. If these shows become a series, I will stop watching USA Network and USA Network is my main station for TV. Both of these shows are very disgusting!!!

I couldn't agree with you more!!! These shows - Borat and Bruno may be explained away as the new wave for expressing cultural satire. I say - They can keep this explanation, these shows and everything about them!!! If, this is what satire and/or comedy is moving towards, I'll just watch old reruns of I Love Lucy.
Borat, no matter, how people try to condon it, explain it, it is still: Disgusting -- Dispicable -- and Demeaning. Demeaning, on many levels to Women and various cultures.

To USA, I say - Monk will soon be gone. You still air other worthwhile shows but if, you continue airing shows of this lowest of low levels, you will lose one viewer. Unforturnately, USA comes with the basic package of my cable TV but I'm thinking of asking them to remove it, anyway, just in protest, if you continue to show these miserable shows.

When movies like this come on I switch to another network to watch something that interests me. This movie offers me no inspiration and no entertainment value.

That is an EXTREMELY smart move.
