Why was Lassy being so nice to Shawn?

I have 2 theories:

1. He believed the woman on trial was innocent, which was stated in the episode, so he was trying to encourage Shawn to make the case for him.

2. Lassy found out that Shawn helped him out in From Earth to the Starbucks and he was grateful.

Does anyone know?

Interesting question!

I got the impression he was encouraging Shawn because he believed the woman on trial was innocent. Remember what O'Hara said to Shawn on the steps of the courthouse?

-"You know, Shawn, for a psychic you are missing something right in front of your face. It's too bad. You might learn something about
Lassiter. Maybe you don't want to-"
Then Shawn cuts her off with, "he shaves his back?" She was trying to tell Shawn that Lassiter's moral code, his basic sense of right and wrong, meant that he had to voice his doubts about the woman's guilt no matter what the consequences. Even though it might make him look bad as an investigator (it was his arrest, after all), he had to do what was right. That's called "moral courage".

In other words, O'Hara was trying to tell Shawn that Lassiter's not as much of an a$$hole as Shawn thinks. I'm thinking Lassiter returning Shawn's bike was his subtle way of saying "good job" without letting Spencer know he was being rewarded. He has a reputation to uphold, after all! It's possible he knows Shawn helped him out in "From Earth To Starbucks", actually I'd say even probable (Lassiter is a detective, after all). I think Lassiter knows that Shawn is basically a good guy at heart. But that's my read on this particular episode.

thanks. I do think Lassy like Shawn but he would never show it.

I agree. As much as Lassiter hates seeing a guilty person go free, he also can't see innocents go to prison. I'm sure he was relieved when he saw Shawn jump on the case because as he put it in Earth to Starbucks, Shawn's abilities bring a "guaranteed arrest"- he always figures it out.

The bike thing at the end was just a token of appreciation. Unfortunately for Lassie, it didn't go off as "undercover" as he wanted it to, lol.

And yes, I do also believe that the two of them have a deep respect for each other. Shawn doesn't mind showing it- he knows the SBPD needs Lassie, which is why he helped him out in Earth to Starbucks. Lassie openly showing his respect for Shawn, well...he's just Lassie wink.gif

Lassie's a good guy.

That's a great question. Glad folks added the reasoning. Nice!

And I wonder if any "psych" folks are involved with the upcoming movie, "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs". biggrin.gif It is a real movie. Scary ain't it!

Is that movie about a town where all it rains is food, then one day the weather goes crazy and pelts food at them? I read a book like that in school when I was little.

I believe you're right. Here's the synopsis:

The most delicious event since macaroni met cheese. Inspired by the beloved children's book, the film focuses on a town where food falls from the sky like rain.

And back on topic, I do like how they weave Lassie's "love hate" for Shawn. It's hilarious and makes for great dialogue. biggrin.gif

I loved that book. I googled it and it brought back some good memories.

I love how Shawn got all jealous of Lassie when Henry took him farming. In the end Lassie said he understood Shawn a bit better. (This was in Game Set Murder.)

Umm, I think you meant fishing. Although it would be hilarious to see poor Lassiter try to milk a cow. I think "Lassie" needs to stick with herding sheep like a good collie should.

I do mean fishing, sorry. I live in a farming town. It is a small town surrounded by miles and miles of farm. The conversation going on around me last night was probably farming. I've had trouble before typing what I heard. Sorry.

It would be very funny though seeing Lassie milk a cow.

I think he'd just eventually wind up getting pissed off, shooting it, and cooking it up for dinner. Steaks, anyone?
