Full Version: I want to see Shawn make out with Gus.

I hate how TV shows are cool for a couple seasons and then the writers change the focus from the plots and dialogues and even personalities of the characters in the shows that were based on an original premise that made the show great, and then people write about stupid ideas on message boards like these, so the producers think that losers that spend their spare time on fansites for the shows actually represent the audience of the show as a whole and start writing according to the wishes of the fansite people. Usually, this happens by characters starting to date each other and stuff, but the writers will prolong what they think viewers want (the dating or whatever) for as long as they think they can keep the show going. When it finally happens, you know it's the last season! frack all that. I see such things happening on "Psych" in the fracking THIRD season. The show is too young for this nonsense. I don't want the show to die or turn into a cliche, so if it must follow this ridiculous pattern, I would just be thrilled to see something unpredictable (yet expected in a way) happen instead, but in the same way. Even if that killed the show in one episode, I would respect it more.

Plus, any idiot can see that two dudes that have never left each others side since they were young children are gay for each other, even when they don't see it or aren't homosexuals. So Shawn and Gus should make out.

I have a best friend since kindergarten and, while i'm not 30 yet like shawn and gus, i dont see the friendship ending anytime soon. that doesnt mean that we are gay for each other. at all.

and i would NOT like to see them kiss unless
1. they were drunk
2. it was like...CPR or something. hahah
ever see the episode of chuck where he had to kiss casey? yeah. if it was something like that it'd be ok.

but they arent gay for each other so...i cant think of any other time where it'd work
SnarkyPsychicRules
Although it would be a funny hilarious like in 9 lives when they are pretending to buy the apartment and Shawn pretends like they are gay! I love the part where he goes "Gus, look shower for two!" But I think that it shouldn't happen but if it is inevitable they have to be completely smashed and it has to be a quick kiss not a full-on 5 minute makeout!

I'd prefer Shassie.

smile.gif I don't think it's much of a secret that I prefer Shassie as well (over everything really... though in fic more than in the show). But Shassie has so much more attraction that Shus because there is content there to really play with--differences and arguments and something to overcome.

I agree that it is ignorant to think that, just because they have been friends so long, that Shawn and Gus are (to quote, though this is a horrible turn of phrase and somewhat offensive) "gay for each other." Usually, one of the things that makes lasting friendships (IMHO, obviously) is the lack of a sexual component. Whether between guys, girls, or both... I think that the ability to make a friendship endure often is because it is the safe place to discuss all the other attractions and frustrations etc. that come from romantic relationships. Sure, some friendship manage to endure past a trial of romance, but not many can.

I'm not saying that there aren't people out there whose spouse or partner aren't their "best friend," but in my experience usually there is a closer and longer best friend than the partner.

Though I had a difficult time understanding your first paragraph, let me try to address the points I believe I did understand and possibly ask for clarification on others. Feel free to correct me if I've erred in my estimation of what you were trying to say. smile.gif

1. I believe Psych's producers and writers know better than to give its fans what they claim to want. That approach doesn't often work out well. Psych's creative staff is more than capable of making the show without relying on posts on a message board. Were that not the case, we would never have had Psych on our television screens to begin with.

2. I can't decide if you were trying to say they should go ahead and let Shawn and Juliet date, or if they should continue prolonging the process. Your phrasing seemed to suggest them both at different points of your post. (I do have to agree with your apparent opposition of the Shules pairing, though.)

3. I won't bother touching on the "gay for each other" issue. Winky already did that, so I'll simply second her post.

4. Lastly, I'll have to agree with Winky (and ElizabethJoan) on another point: Shassie's better! tongue.gif (Off of the air, of course.)

*Just as a sidenote, there's really no need to come onto a discussion board for a show you claim to enjoy for what seems to be the main purpose of insulting those who post on it. If you do honestly feel that we are "losers", you are more than welcome to simply not visit said board. No one's forcing the issue.
MarthanotGeorge
You guys are so nice to this person!

I'm all for dissent on the board. I think it makes it interesting and fun. However it needs to be respectful. And you failed in that. Calling people losers is never O.K., even if you meant in a self-deprecating (I'm posting to the fansite and I'll calling people on the fansite losers, ha-ha) kind of way.

And the gay thing. Really? Shawn and Gus are not drunken young adults exploring their sexuality. They are grown men. If they had the inclination to 'be all gay with each other' it would have happened before. Perhaps you should try your hand at fanfic and explore their adolescense.

I am confused on one point. If the folks on the fansite are losers who are not representative of the typical Psych viewer, how do you know what those other people (non-losers) think? Is it a telepathy thing or do you think that whatever you believe is the only reasonable view so it must be the majority view? That's a little arrogant.

Acubound05 made this point, but it bears repeating. The producers and writers are not so malleable that they would change anything because people on the fansite are dissatisfied. And on this fansite what you mostly get are just that, fans. Any negative comments are usually qualified with a "I love the show, but".

You are welcome back if you aren't as pejorative the next time. You might want to learn a little more about the show as well.
PsychLuvr
There is one point on this I have to address... Most of the writers don't even look at message boards so there's now way they would write just because us "losers" talk about something. And another thing, we're not losers! And by calling the people on fansites losers, you're calling yourself a loser because you happen to be on the fansite now haha.

Also, I really don't think that Shawn and Gus should make out because that seems like something a show would do if they were running out of ideas and needed to do something crazy. It also would not be like Psych at all to do something like that IMO
gooie_choclatechip_cookie5
they really shouldn't make out, no shawn and gus or shassie because if there would be anything gay, then my parents would not let me watch the show and that would be really sad sad.gif

huh.gif I think everyone else has said what I think. If you don't like it, then don't watch it! And to think that just because two guys have been friends all their lives that they must be gay is just arrogant!! What you are basically saying is that people of the same sex can only be friends for a little bit or they are gay.

Also, I don't think that Shawn and Gus should kiss. I have NOTHING against gay people but it's not right for the show. They are best friends and if that changes it would become too much like a soap opera. also, the writers have said that when they get shawn and juliet close, they then bring them apart. My guess is that in the fourth season premiere, it will be as if nothing happened.

I second the emotion! That is just wrong! They've been friends forever, are grown men and by now DEFINATELY know they're sexuality, Shawn is a ladies man since birth and we all know he will either be 1.with Abby in season four or 2.keep chasing after Jules or 3."date" a bunch of random girls or 4. 2&3 like the other seasons

Although it's canon that both Shawn and Gus love the ladies, it's part of fan fun to imagine infinite possibilities.

Some folks can take an innocent screencap like this one between Shawn and Gus

and get all sorts of non-brotherly ideas about their relationship. laugh.gif

I have watched Psych from the very first and have enjoyed every episode and never felt like there was anything negative to comment about. I have also been with the show with a more mature Shawn and have applauded the move, but I feel that if Shawn made out with Gus or even dated Gus it would be taking things too far and that it would be too great a departure for the character Shawn since he wasn't inclined to do that in the first season nor Gus either. I would just hate to have a show I enjoy as much as Psych ruined (for me) by such a plot. I wouldn't want to not watch Psych at all because of such a plot but I might if it gets too involved in Shawn and Gus. Here's hoping it doesn't happen. IMO

You're offended; that is so cute! Let me know what needs clarification in my first paragraph. As for your other points, yes, I was saying that you are losers. I am posting here too, so that makes me a loser as well. Yes, I am against a romance between Shawn and Jules. I was not saying that the writers should go along with it, nor that they should prolong it, but rather that they should stop even addressing the issue. As for the phrase "gay for each other," I am not really sure why anyone finds that offensive any more than when someone says, "That is gay," or even, "that is lame." In fact, I think it is far less offensive to actual homosexuals, especially considering the context (that I was suggesting two men kiss each other, which would be a "gay" thing.)

True, I'm not saying they should like hook up or anything, more like a weird random moment that would be forever awkward. And, no, I don't actually think they are homosexuals, and you're right that homosexuality is not bad, but then why the "ewwwwwwwwww...."? Does Gus love the ladies too? He never seems to get any, seriously. I feel bad for him.

Good one. But ... If Gus could do "better," why doesn't he? He's always just tagging along with Shawn, his freaking sidekick, and only like once a season does he ever even talk to a woman, and I don't think he's gotten laid once since the show started. If he was actually gay and getting some from men, then that's not implied on the show at all either. I think Gus has a huge crush on Shawn, and Shawn has no idea, but if Shawn would stop and think about it all, he would wonder why Gus puts up with him. I don't think they would date, no. They would just kiss in some really weird situation, probably while intoxicated or like imprisoned thinking they only had 6 hours left to live or something, which, of course, would turn out not to be the case, and then they'd feel all awkward for the rest of the episode, but viewers would notice Gus expressing some repressed unrequited crush or something, even though it's not entirely sexual anyway. Yeah. I am just making this up as I go along, but I think what I just described would actually work for the show, or if these were real people, but it won't happen on the show, because such a thing would upset too many viewers.

I would generally just ignore your reply and let this topic sink to the bottom of the board, but I feel there is at least some merit in explaining my distaste for the phrase you used earlier. I'll instead just ignore the ridiculous and unnecessarily catty remarks included in it. Just so you know, what needed clarification in your first paragraph was your entire first paragraph. The first five lines were one long, run-on sentence.

If you'll go back and read over the topic, no one has stated that the use of "gay" in any of the contexts you've mentioned (excluding the last) is anything less than offensive; quite the opposite, they are incredibly insulting towards gay people and should not be used. I find the phrase "gay for each other" to be particularly offensive because it seeks to undermine the enormity of what "gay" or "homosexual" really means and boil it all down to a frivolous, spur-of-the-moment choice when it is neither of those. It's a phrase my cousin used frequently to try and feel better about himself before he was willing to face his own homosexuality. Now he cringes anytime he hears it. It's a phrase one of my brothers uses to feel justified in his homophobia. I've never heard it used in a way that I've found to be less than offensive, nor can I imagine one.

I'm going to have to stand with MarthaNotGeorge here: Please don't consider yourself to be welcome back unless you choose to continue in your use of the more respectful tone you adopted in reference to uhhPINEAPPLES', bethgreen's, and PsychLuvr's posts. Though I, myself, have certainly been unintentionally rude on occasion, there's no place for it here and it shouldn't be tolerated. (MarthaNotGeorge: I hope you won't mind my occasional adoption of your method, but I like this whole "bolding people's usernames" thing you've got going! It certainly can make longer posts easier to read.)

Huh. Okay, maybe I watch with blinders on, but I really don't see this 'unresolved tension' between Shawn and Gus OR Shawn and Lassie, even if it is unrequited.

I see Shawn and Gus as best friends (the jokes about being gay from 9 Lives being, in my experience with guys, simply an evolved form of teasing/inside jokery) and that's it.

Why does Gus put up with Shawn? I'd be more inclined to say that, despite his occasional complaints about how Shawn is reckless or irresponsible or whatever critiques he has about Shawn's behavior, he and Shawn still have fun. A lot of fun, in fact. More fun than Gus would probably have without Shawn because Shawn is willing to take risks and while this can be stressful in the moment, afterward, Gus can see that, you know, that was kind of cool.

I mean, really? How else is Gus going to get to tag along and see what the CSU guys do? Or go behind the scenes to watch a Spanish soap opera being filmed? Or run loose in a museum all night long?

(Okay, not that he enjoyed that last one so much. But, hey, think of the story he has to tell now! biggrin.gif I have no doubt Gus will pull that little gem out (with, perhaps, a bit of revision) at a party or two in his future.)

Gus, being the genius that he is, knows that hanging out with Shawn can be a huge risk at times, but those who never take risks also lead the most boring lives imaginable.

I'd be fine with the continuation of the occasional 'gay' joke regarding the two of them because, well, yeah, okay I can see how someone who doesn't know them AT ALL might get that impression. Besides, as I said, it's kind of teasing for them.

But I just feel that anything more than that, even in jest or as a 'drunken' mistake or whatever, would be out of character for both Shawn and Gus.

(Which is not to say that I think Shawn has never had a moment like this in his life with someone else. I just don't know that I can buy the two of them being the participants.)
