This new show sounds interesting. it's good for Matt Nix and we all could use another great show on TV but I'm not as happy about the news as the rest of you seem to be. Anything that occupies Matt Nix's time and produces income for him other than Burn Notice cannot be good for BN fans.

I agree LIAnn. It dilutes his attention from BN. Usually, this happens as a show winds down as opposed to when it is hitting its stride. Will more of the writing and production decisions go to Alfred Barrios?
MattNix is obviously a talented writer and we will just have to hope that he has the stamina to do all these projects simultaneously.

This is awesome! "The big guy is gonna LOVE this!"
I see BN composer John Dickson also was involved in this project as well. Thanks for sharing the link, roughseas!

ETA: Love the groundswell, the poignant heartbreak of the music as the citizen plaintively calls out to Big Brother, "Don't leave me!!!" Hahaha. Cheeky as always, that Mr. Nix.

ETA again: does the citizen refer to Jean-Paul Sartro when he says this line?
Citizen 43275-B:*writing on paper* [voiceover] A Guide to Revolution, by Citizen 43275-B. In 1943, Jean-Paul Sartre wrote that so long as a man can look into The eyes of his oppressor, he is free.
I listened to it twice and I swear he says "Sartro." hahaha!! I love this ending, it's just perfect. That last line of this is freaking brilliant. Oh, the irony of it all. *chortling*

I found that they have started to cast for the new series.
Bradley Whitford has been tapped to star in Jack and Dan, Matt Nix’s new 13-episode series for Fox. The show was created by the Burn Notice creator. It centers on Jack, an ambitious, by-the-book cop who is partnered with Dan (Bradley Whitford), a drunken, lecherous, wild-card cop who hangs onto his job only because of a heroic act from years before.Full story

OMG I am so excited that they got Bradley Whitford for this thing, he is so brilliant, IMHO. He was beyond fantastic on "The West Wing" and I can't wait to see what he does with this part!

You know, at first I was totally thrilled for Mat Nix getting another show. And it sounds like a fun concept. I was excited, for Matt and for the potential of another good show. Bradley Whitford is a fabulous choice--I love his work!
But I must admit to a tad of resentment(?), disappointment(?) on behalf of Burn Notice that Matt is turning his attentions to another show.

I'm worried that Burn Notice will suffer because he won't be giving it his full enthusiasm and excitement... and his new ideas. BN is so unique, so different, so special *hugs BN* - and I will be so disappointed if it is neglected while Matt and the network turn their focus to the "new baby".
Ok, done now. Just had to express my concerns, and have no desire to spoil any excitement or kudos to Matt for his ongoing success. And any reasurances that BN will continue on its rising star will be appreciated.

I kinda feel the same way, Patti. To me, it feels like a Sports Night/West Wing/Aaron Sorkin repeat a decade later. And much as I loved The West Wing, Sports Night paid the price for it. Anyway, the original press for the new show said that they waited until Matt would be freer to take the time away from BN. I hope that is true.

I hope that's true too, Karen. (Although I can't help my pessimistic side looking at a "glass half empty" and seeing that press statement as an admission that Matt will spend less time on BN.) *sigh*
Perhaps I just don't understand Matt's role on Burn Notice enough--I thought the show was basically... all Matt, LOL--his concept, his writing, ideas, direction on character development and story arcs. Can the show actually come to a point where it doesn't need him doing all that with the same focus in order to maintain the same high quality?

Thanks for expessing it so well, Patti. You can add me to the list, too. I hope there is enough time in the production schedule of each show for Matt to do both and that neither show suffers negatively. Hopefully, the city of Miami will be accomodating to Burn Notice so there aren't any worries from that front...

Hasn't JD been producing or doing something (besides acting) in recent episodes. Maybe he will take over some of the things Matt typically does? From what I hear JD and the other actors get a lot of creative control, so maybe Matt is trusting JD to make sure the other writers don't stray too far afield from the Michael Westen we know and love.
This is the idea I'm holding on to that allows me to not sink completely into a state of constantly worrying and fretting.

Jeffrey has a producer credit this season, but I am assuming that is just a way to get more money for him rather than paying it as outright salary. When DanJ and I met him in August, Dan said something about being a producer now. Jeffrey pretty much dismissed it as "they listen to me and then ignore me," or something along those lines. Don't remember his exact words.
I am mildly concerned but not fretting. From all the commentaries I've heard from Nix and the writers, they all seem to have a very good grip on what the show is and should be. Plus, they have a nice stable of directors who have worked on the show before and know what it should look like. They all just seem to have a lot more common sense on this show than any other show I follow, which might explain why this is my favorite.
Plus, we wouldn't start to see any changes until S4 anyway.

hi all
i was a bit concerned when i first read of the new series but once i thought it out i was less concerned. it kind of reminds me of people who read two or three books at one time and can keep the characters and plots of all the books separate. my daughter writes as a hobby. she writes story dialogs for fanfics and the like and she has many of them going at once and keeps them all straight. so, i feel that matt nix and crews are more than likely well capable of doing the same thing. however, managing shoots schedules, that could be different. hope they can stay on schedule as to not interfer with one another. it will be interesting to see the new show. i will surely give it a try as long as it is not across from NCIS, Bones, Stargate: Universe, or PBR.

Another negative for Matt Nix doing another show in the style of Burn Notice is the dilution of the type of show. It has been the unique combination of drama, humor and action that has been so well recieved by the public. I guess, it is to be expected that success breeds copiers.
Who knows, maybe the new show will pale in comparison to Burn Notice. Afterall, we always post about how moving the acting is and how clever the ad libs and storylines are on Burn Notice. Not trying to undermine anyone's opinion on the forum, I promise, but I sincerely hope the new show does well. I LOVE Burn Notice, and want to see it continue for years to come.
But if Mr. Nix's new venture is just as funny, well written, full of complex & interesting characters, with well-constructed plot-lines, then I'm first in line to watch, and he'll have another devoted fan on his hands.
Plus, it seems Mr. Nix has surrounded himself (and Burn Notice) with intelligent, competent people, so I'm hoping the show will continue to thrive in good hands if his attention is diverted for a time in getting his new show off the ground.
Just my two cents.

I hadn't heard of the new series. I'm really surprised that there's concern because Matt will be working on another TV show. As creator and sometimes producer/director, he isn't always needed; especially since they have a number of different writers, directors, and producers. The first season was great with the different writers for most of the episodes. I think it was the best season, so far. I watch BN mostly because of JD but the writing has always been top notch and I don't see how Matt's new endeavor will affect that.
This is just my unqualified opinion and not to negate any differing one.

To date there have been 37 episodes of Burn Notice. Matt Nix is credited for writing 12 of them (32.4%). IMHO that's a significant percentage and one unlikely to be repeated if he is working on another show at the same time.

In one of the special features Matt Nix stated that one of his friends said that watching Burn Notice was like being with Matt....I think Jeffery D. even sounds like Matt (or visa verse) and Matt did a voice over for Jeffery which no one could tell the difference...it is the "Trickle Down" theory in which Matt chose the people to work with him that reflects his personality and vision and they will carry on what he intended. That's the first time I've seen someone mention the voice similarity between JD and MN. When I first listened to the commentaries on the S1 DVD set, I couldn't tell them apart and I thought it was just me!
Of course, I didn't have that problem on the S2 DVDs because neither JD or GA were in the commentaries.
