I hope you don't mind If I try one.

"I'm pretty sure that is illegal in 14 states."

Eames and Goren were sitting at their desk sifting through stacks of mail.

"You find anything yet?" asked Goren.

"No, You?" returned Eames.

"No!" he responded tossing the already read letters into a box.

"You know I could think of other things I would rather be doing on a Saturday than going through a serial rapist's fan mail," said Eames. "And why did we get this instead of SVU?"

"Because he is up for parole and the Mayor's daughter received an anonymous letter," sighed Goren, tossing another batch of fan mail into the read box.

"And they feel this letter was a threat from the rapist?" asked Eames.

"Yes...." Goren responded but quit mid sentence.

"Please tell me you found something," she looked at him. He was looking at what appeared to be a picture. He turned the picture around in his hands. Turned his head to the left and then to the right.

"I'm not sure..... but I'm pretty sure that is illegal in 14 states," he said as he looked up at her.

"Eames, let me tell you, there is a lot of nasty stuff out there," Goren mumbled.

"Yeah, I get that," Eames replied.

"That's why I'm glad you're my partner. I've...never doubted you," he said.

"Thanks Bobby, now tell me, who really cares what's illegal in those other states? As long as I'm with you, what happens in New York stays in New York."

You are welcome. I've noticed that things are just really slow on the forum right now, especially in the fanfic sub-forum. Is that chocolate cake with chocolate ganache icing? If so, cake definately biggrin.gif .

"Eames, come see this quick!"

"Is it your stalkers who like to call themselves fans? You know every time I look at that stuff, I'm tempted to double the locks on my doors."

"Okay, but get five locks, then only lock every other one."

"What?"

"Then, if someone turns all the locks, he'll have only unlocked three of them."

"Okay, genius boy, what--oh my God!"

"This thread has grown somewhat off track methinks."

Nod.

"Anyway, since I know this is all part of a prompt response, I will go ahead and say 'I think that's illegal in 14 states.' There. I have just aknowledged myself as the fictional copy of an already fictional character."

"Cake and full body searches? I think I'm going to be sick!"

OK, I don't know how successful this will be but here goes.

Green, that was the only way to describe it. He was positively green, he looked as if he was going to be sick. Goren sat with the picture in his hands, someone had left it sitting on his binder. Nothing had bothered him in his work before this picture. He could not understand what would prompt a human being to do such a thing, but here was photographic proof. He took out a magnifying glass to see if there was evidence of manipulation in the image but it seemed authentic. He just stared in disgust, turning shades of green that not even Crayola could dream of.

Ross could not help but notice the burly detective's palor. He decided to take a look and see what could make the man who poked at dead things with his fingers, forgoing the distance of a stick, without flinching. His large detective could make even the most hardened medical examiner so squimish. What could possibly be responsible for the unnatural response from Goren?

The captain approached the centrally located desks, trying not to look like he was annoyed. He had found that this was the normal look that he assumed whenever it came to dealing with Goren. Ross was trying hard not to do that every time he approached Goren, and his eldest son, who was also in the constant habit of questioning him and just causing a general fuss recently. The captain decided to take a gentler approach, looking at the detectives state and gently asking, "Problem detective?"

"It is just wrong," Goren wimpered.

"What is it that is so disturbing?"

"I just cannot fathom what would prompt someone to do such a thing. I have seen some of the most horrible acts of depravity, witnessed the complete absence of humanity, but this...." The large man seemed to turn even greener.

Ross could just not resist looking over the detective's shoulder. It was like a horrible traffic accident, he did not want to look but could not look away once he saw the image. He felt his knees go weak and reached for the nearest thing to stablize himself. His hand came to rest on the big man's shoulder, but neither flinched even though their personal space was intruded. Ross paled and just muttered incoherently until he managed to find his senses.

"I'm not sure, but I believe that is illegal in 14 states." Ross finally composed himself enough to find his voice.

Goren shook his head, "And the District of Columbia."

Ross finally looked away from the disturbing image and looked down to the floor. "Shred it," he uttered.

"We can never speak of this again," added Goren.

The detective walked to the shredder, hoping that the image of the liver and onion covered ice cream sundae would not haunt his nightmares.

Meanwhile, the female detectives could hardly stop giggling from their hidden enclave. "I told you that it would get him." "Yeah, but I did not think that it would be two for the price of one. Priceless!"

Spring break and a cold are a horrible combination. Sorry for the image, I just could not help myself.

This is hilarious! And it's so nice to see Ross and Goren bonding! laugh.gif

That was a good one, teach. I had to force myself not to cheat and go to the end to see what could possibly be SO upsetting to Goren. It was an excellent punchline and a very funny description of the boys' response.

Thank you both. I am such a sick puppy, that was the first thing that came to mind when I read the prompt. It might have had something to do with a case of food poisoning that I was fighting at the time, any food looked like a violation of the laws of nature for three days.
Peyton
LOL!

Good one Teach, and DC nothing is illegal there! lol.

I, too, found your challenge response to be hilarious, teach. I'm also right there with DetectiveC in that I had to resist pulling too much up to read or I would have gone all the way to the bottom first. Great job! Now we know what goes on in the MCS when the cameras stop rolling!
