I've also previously heard that, after you get it from the grocery store/market/wherever you should put it upside down for 2-3 days to finish ripening

But that's all hearsay (I do the latter)

Prop it up on it's leaves... Usually I put it leaning against the toaster oven, or between the blender and the wall... or upside down *in* the blender or upside down in a pitcher or something similar (tall and wide enough for the pineapple)

I can relate. Try spending 23 years in school

LOL, just remember, spell check is great for papers in school... but, as much as I hate to admit it, spelling is very important on leaving a lasting impression in the real world (and the real world doesn't always have spell check). Even quick emails to the boss or a professor can have an impact... a mess of misspellings could leave them to believe you are sloppy (or worse); impact a possible promotion or letter of recommendation. You won't always be a teenager.

By no means am I telling you to run out and DL Firefox right now as a new browser. It is just an option for later, when being a poor speller really can affect you.

Like I said, I'm not a great speller, but I try to compensate for it to the best of my ability as I become an 'adult'.

The last thing you want to do in grad school is send out an email to a professor or potential post doc littered with poor spelling. I've always had to compensate. When I was in high school (and sadly computers were not as available) my mother was kind enough to proof my home work. Now I spell check EVERYTHING... not that it catches all my mistakes ( its still important to glance over something first) Whether it is appropriate or not (in reality not) people tend to associate spelling with intelligence. It is unfortunate because some of the most intelligent people I know can't spell worth a diddly.
