I'm actually a relatively new fan of the show, I only just got sucked in recently, and now wonder what I ever did with my life before the show, lol.

Actually I remember seeing some commercials for it on USA but it just seemed silly to me. Then I was flipping channels and just happened to stop on USA when they were playing 6 feet under the sea. So my first glimpse of the show was when Shawn and Gus were sneaking around the aquarium and Shawn tears off his pants and takes off to go ride the dolphin. Not really understanding what the show's about or any context of the actual episode, my first reaction was WTH?! This must be just some stupid nonsense show that is obviously trying too hard.

Fast forward 2 weeks when the husband finally convinced me to watch the pilot, and I've been hooked ever since.

Kuddos to those who have been on the train from day 1 :-)

It was a friday that we were off for school for some odd reason, and I was flipping channels and there was a Psych marathon on. I think I came in at the daredevils episode and I just thought why not because there was nothing else on. I had seen the commercials for the christmas joy episode and I just thought the show looked really weird. But after I watched the marathon I was hooked and decided to watch six feet under the sea (which was on that night)!!
My friend actually started watching that same day and that night I went to her house and she asked me about the show and we were really happy!

I've been a fan since the pilot. The day of the premiere James Roday and Dulé Hill went on The Today Show to promote Psych and I decided, "What the heck? It looks entertaining; I'll give it a shot." I immediately fell in love and have been utterly devoted since. biggrin.gif
dreathirium
I've actually been watching and enjoying it since it first aired... but just that, watch and forget, ya know? So then when I watched MR. Yang lightning struck and suddenly I was obsessed... just like that lol plus that night (or a couple of nights later) I had this awesome dream that I was watching a new ep of the show, which rocked so hard.... and that just did me in completely... so I ordered the DVDs and rewatched all the eps... and yeah, now I'm here, rocking the boards!

PsychFanCNY
I remember seeing those commercials with James, Dulé with cast members of other USA shows, such as Tony Shalhoub and Anthony Michael Hall. I was a big fan of Dulé's from his days on The West Wing, so I thought it looked really awesome. I watched the pilot, and lo and behold, I was hooked. smile.gif

I used to watch Monk a lot and I remember seeing the preview for Pysch, but thinking- I don't really need another TV show to watch! I've got enough going on with trying to keep up with my two kids! Then one night after Monk I kept the TV on and was in and out of the bedroom during the "Speak Now or Forever Hold Your Piece" epidsode. I got quite a few chuckles out of it- taking over Lassie's hotel room, hiding in the ceiling, etc.!! Then I started watching them every week. However, it wasn't until I watched the "Bounty Hunters" episode and the "close talking" thing with Shawn and Jules that I then became obsessed!!! And now I can't get enough!!!! I bought season 1 and season 2 DVDs- have watched every single episode and listened to all the commentaries, and of course visit the Psych forum!

Psych is pretty much the only show I watch, but my sister was watching house a few months ago on USA and the commercial for Christmas Joy came on and I decided I should watch it. I LOVED it!!!! So I got all the dvds and rewatched them all smile.gif

I've been a fan since day one. I was always watching the reruns of Law and Order: SVU on USA and one day i saw the commercial for a new show: Psych. Since i was always watching the channel I kept on seeing the commercial and it looked funny so i made a mental note of the date in my mind. THEN, of course, we were doing something else that night and we got back late. Psych had already started but I decided to watch it from where it was. then i stayed up until it replayed and i watched the beginning. i've pretty much loved the show from that point on. I'm very proud to be able to say that i have been watching Psych since the day it aired! Although, it seems that my obsession grows with every half season laugh.gif

My mom and sister always watched it, but I never felt like giving it a shot. Then this summer we were on vacation and had a long ride home, and my mom bought season 2, so we watched and I could not stop. I fell completely in love after watching Bounty Hunters close talking scene. I fell in love with Shawn Spencer after that moment. How could she not just kiss him? haha

I just saw the commercials and thought it looked cool. I watched the series premire and I was hooked! I've loved Psych ever since!

My son and I watched Monk together when it first began. When Psych premiered, my son loved it, so I enjoyed him enjoying it. He has moved beyond Monk but we can still watch Psych, sometimes appreciating different aspects. Plus, I get to impress him with my trivial knowledge wink.gif .

'Bounty Hunters' was, for me, the first episode that I remember just being gobsmacked as well. And have not been disappointed since. Although, not always gobsmacked.

my brother watched momk & then he showed it to me and i loved it. like a month later he showed my psych. my first epi was talk derby to me ;D

i can't remember exactly but i remember watching it towards the beginning. i think i might have been bored one night and was flipping the channels and found psych and loved it. i eventually got my friend anna into it but she's not as big a fan as i am

I have a more roundabout route of discovering Psych than most. I had just enjoyed watching a detective-based dramedy from Japan called "Kuitan" (The Gluttonous Detective), where the main character, Takano Seiya, has an almost superhuman talent (much like Shawn Spencer) of being able to solve cases - by eating food. His unorthodox methods often annoy the chief investigator Ogata and her assistant Igarashi. (However, the chief Yamauchi is much more forgiving, much like Chief Vick is to Shawn; he turns out to be the twin brother of Takano's boss.) So, the premise of Psych was much like one of my favorite detective shows - from Japan. I think there are many parallels between "Kuitan" and "Psych".

Unfortunately, most Japanese shows only last for about a season (Kuitan lasted for two - with a 2 hour long special in between), so I needed a show to fill that gap. And Psych did that.

In case anyone wants to watch how a Japanese-style dramedy turns out (I mean, the new season of Psych is still months away), here's the third episode from the second season of Kuitan, "Eat anything 'soft and hard' in sight!" (It's in 5 parts, so please bear with this.)

Part 1:

Part 2:

(Wouldn't be interesting to have the "Psych" characters in the middle of an international assassination plot for an episode?)

Like you, I have been a fan since day one, only I saw the ad during the season ender to Monk in 2006! At first, I didn't know what to think except I did like how James eyes rolled in the ad! Then came the ads with James and Tony Shalhaub, the first ad I remember was the time change for Monk to make room for Psych (Before Psych aired in 2006, Monk was on Friday nights at ten, nine central)! That was funny, but then, the network aired a even better one with James eating Cheese Puffs, sitting next to Tony! That one was even funnier! So I started watching. I loved the banter between James and Dulé! I started taping the show after He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not...Oops He is Dead.

Once the show arrived on DVD for Season One, I was definitely hooked! And like you it seems my obession grows with every half season!!!

Yes, we forgive you. So long as you have since come to your senses about Psych wink.gif

I've posted this before on here somewhere, but who knows where that thread has ventured off to. During the summer of 06 I was stage managing a show at a local theatre. I was there all the time. I had seen numerous commercials for the show because we all know how USA promotes their new conquests, and Psych looked good and I wanted to watch but we were right in the middle of our tech stuff when it premiered. I ran out of the house that evening for a six hour long rehearsal and it slipped my mind to record it. Once the show I was working on ended in early August I was up and caught the Pilot at midnight on August 8th (yes, I remember the date, no I'm not ashamed laugh.gif ). It's been love ever since. I caught a marathon a few days after that, got caught up and have been hooked since.

I saw an ad for Psych and intentionally set out to watch the premiere. I haven't missed a single episode yet! Add the message boards and psychfic.com to the equation and I can honestly say my obsession/addiction is complete. smile.gif

I haven't missed any episodes yet, but I did have to demand that my family record the last few of the first half of season 2. I was in England and they just don't show it over there!

I know! For about a week of the time I was over there I stayed with some friends who are in the Air Force and they could watch it, but it was a season behind. I may have been able to stream the current episodes online, but my laptop didn't have any sound so it wouldn't have done me any good anyway.

Well I'm happy I'm in the middle of a forgiving bunch wink.gif Now I'm the crazy person who has little pineapples lining the top of her computer monitor at work. (not the most comforting feeling when people start wondering about the office shrink!)

What's so funny is that I've always hated interrogation rooms, but now I really don't mind them at all!

Most importantly, I'm glad to have the forgiveness of an officer of the CMP^2 smile.gif

I started out as a passive fan. Spelling Bee was on during a marathon and I was in a lazy mood so I watched it. I then watched a few more. Eventually my husband started watching with me and I slowly became hooked. By the time this season came out, we were watching regularly. I don't think it was until the second half of the season that I became a big fan. I think my first squee moment was when I saw the preview for Lassie Did A Bad Bad Thing. It wasn't until I saw Yang that I decided to start checking out the message boards and fan communities online.

Now I can't stop watching old episodes. smile.gif

To PSYCHRULZ:

You aren't the only person that initially had a bad reaction to the show. I've been a "Monk" fan since they first aired the pilot episode, so I remember when the first "Psych" commercials aired. Originally I thought, "Oh great. Another 'Monk' rip-off show with a brilliant 'defective' type detective." I tried watching parts of first season episodes and thought it was too close to slapstick for my taste.

A few years go by, and Monk has gone downhill lately (sorry, love the character, don't like what the writers have done with the show). Nothing was on TV and I saw "Lassie Did a Bad Bad Thing" listed on my guide. I thought, "Oh what the hell. I'll try watching it again." For some reason, I really liked Tim Omundson as Lassiter (I remembered him from Deadwood), and saw that the show's humor was much more sophisticated that I originally thought. I began thinking, "Hey that was pretty good. I'll bet the show started out awkward but has since hit it's stride. Wonder if the characters have evolved since the pilot? Think I'll check it out." I bought a used first season DVD set, and I've been hooked ever since.

So for all you Shawn fans, it was Tim Omundson that got me hooked. Gotta show Lassie some love! I also thought the "Mr. Bean" reference from "American Duos" was one of the funniest jokes I've heard on TV in a long time.

i hope that USA network will realize that they have a great show on and will keep it going for years to come!
One of the things that i find so interesting is the writing....they come up with some very obscure 80's references...some i have had to go online to find out about. not many shows will send you to the internet to follow their thread of thought...i love it!

Yeah. It was before the first season. I believe Monk was talking about how it was impossible for Shawn to be a psychic. But it's been a while.
I couldn't find the one with just Monk and Shawn. But here's one on youtube with Monk, the guy from Dead Zone, and Shawn instead.

I'm pretty sure I never gave my answer to this question... so here it is:

Been watching since the first episode and loved it from the beginning. My parents were Monk fans, and I occasionally watched those episodes (what else was on that early on Friday night?)... when they were advertising Psych I thought "I want to watch *that*!"

Been a Psych fan ever since.
