Hey guys have been on this board a few months now and many of you I chat to quite regularly but it occurs to me that we don't really know each other, I know this gets touched on in the 'welcome new members' thread but I'm greedy and would like to know more lol smile.gif I know you guys are planning a meet up but sniff sniff I cant really come being on the wrong side of the pond an all but I thought this might be fun. If there's a thread like this already I apologise but I'm curious where you're all from? and what you do as a profession?

I'm from Essex, England and I'm a Veterinary Nurse, I'm nuts about animals tongue.gif

Hi Frenchy!
I'm glad you posted this thread, I too have wondered about our fellow fan forum friends.
It is funny that you just posted this because I just sent a pm to one of the forum friends that
I think we live in the same state! I was so excited to see a fan so close to me.
I am in Virginia...been here my whole life.
I too LOVE animals...I am sitting here right now with my miniature dachshund sleeping next to me. smile.gif
I wish you were closer...I would love to have a "Burn Notice night" with you all. I know people who used
to do that with Melrose Place...they would all get together to watch the episodes with each other. I always
thought that sounded fun. Though having that many fans together during an episode might not be very quiet...
I imagine we would have so many comments and laughter that we would chat/laugh through most of the show
and miss something. But we could always play an encore presentation and watch it twice in a row!
Again, so glad you posted.

Cheers, everybody! I'm from the Beautiful Monterey Peninsula in California, I work for US Dept. of the Army, taught Chinese for 30 years, and became a BN fan after my son turned me on to the program. My wife and I have a daughter in the Air Force, with 5 tours overseas (guess where?!), but now she's stationed with her hubby in San Antonio and she trains military working dogs. Our son is college age, and will be returning to school in the fall. To cope with withdrawals from the regular season of BN, I'm doing my own BN marathon these days, picking up details from previous episodes that I missed before. biggrin.gif Really looking forward to getting Season 2 on DVD and Season 3 starting up in June. YAY!

I would love to know more about folks here for sure. I think that is what life is about really taking an interest in OTHERS... I live my life as a real life FI as many of you know so lots of free time so I fill my days by delivering babies is my day ( well and night job) and I manage a kid from American Idol Cant wait to meet you all
GolferGal
Hi all BN fans!

I grew up in Connectictut, lived in West Germany (when there were still two of them) for a few years when hubby was in the Army, and I have lived in Northern Virginia for about 25 years. I have a 12 year old daughter who is really into synchronized ice skating. I'm a computer programmer analyst and I love to play golf!

Hey Nato624, do you live anywhere close to Northern Virginia?
Saqqara
I grew up in Southern California, but have lived in Florida, Hawaii, Illinois, Panama, Bahrain and now I live in Texas on a small ranch with my hubby and our 9 dogs.

I was a cryptologist for the Navy and now I write security programs for various companies. Like GolferGal I love to play golf (I probably play too much).

Hi GolferGal!
I am in Richmond....not too far away from ya though! I think we have a few people from the NVA/D.C. area on here.
elisetx
I must say you all are very interesting people....I too have lived many places (NY, Detroit, Houston, most recently 18 years in Northern VA - worked for FX Co. Library system). Now it's El Paso, TX for me. The weather is perfect here. I just married off two daughters last summer so I'm looking forward to a nice quiet summer with new BN eppies tongue.gif

Hey everyone! I live in Southern Oregon. I’m 32, married, have an 8 year old daughter and 6 year old son, work full-time at the local college and I am picking away at my Psychology degree (two classes a term). I love animals too. I have a black king snake, two bearded dragons, a map turtle (along with an Oscar), and my darling psycho Spike (1/2 Australian Shepherd and ½ Jack Russell). I like college basketball and I’m in the midst of March Madness right now. I post on this board, Law and Order CI, In Plain Sight and occasionally The Mentalist, and Eleventh Hour. This pretty much takes up all my time (I’m not very exciting). tongue.gif

Wow, there really *are* some fascinating people in our community!

Elisetx, I didn't realize that you lived in Detroit! I'm originally from Michigan when I was just a baby, so I don't remember it very well (although I have visited there as an adult). My parents moved to Lousiana, where my father got a job as a professor (and where he still works). My parents divorced and then my mom and I headed to Florida. We lived down the street from the Flying Wallendas, the renowned tightrope artists for the Ringling Brothers/Barnum and Bailey circus. Every day I'd walk to school past their house and see them practicing on the tightropes they'd rigged up in their front and back yards. We then moved to South Carolina, which was a lovely state with even lovelier people. I came to Virginia because I wanted to go to college here and I've been here ever since (I like to say that Virginia "adopted" me as I've now been here for so long! smile.gif). It's been great getting to meet so many Virginians as of late - for the longest time I felt like I was the only person watching Burn Notice in Ol' Virginny! laugh.gif

It seems we have a lot of animal lovers in our community! I lost my beloved golden retriever last March to lymphoma and am still heartbroken over it. I hope to get another golden at some point, however....

Both of my degrees are in English and I work in editing and research.

What a great idea for a thread, thank you for posting this, Frenchy! smile.gif

Hi, all. Spent most all my life in south Louisiana (1/2 Cajun), the last couple of years in Maine. Now that I've done the extremes in weather, I've settled in northern Virginia doing accounting work for uncle. I think it's great that we have so many fellow fans around the world.

Nice meeting all of you and thank you very much, Samfrench for starting this thread. What a diverse and interesting community we have here.

I was born and raised in the Chicago area until 7 years ago when my husband, son and I relocated to the Atlanta area. I used to work as a Legal Assistant but I have been home raising my son and he will be heading off to college in about a year and a half. We have two crazy dogs that we adore although they drive us nuts! I never thought of myself as much of a television addict but I have always had a group of shows that I enjoyed watching. Now that we have a DVR I have become much more interested in television but I can't say I have ever been this obsessed with a television program! (I mean that in a good way.)

I so enjoy reading everyone's posts and engaging in the entertaining discussions on this message board. I use to spend my time on baseball (I'll admit it, I'm a die-hard Chicago Cubs fan) and political message boards but I like it here much better!

Philippa, so sorry about your beautiful Golden. My sister has a Golden, 10 yrs old and has a tumor of her jaw. Got radiation tx and seems to be doing okay. I have a lot of friends with Goldens, some got them from Yankee GR Rescue. They are such great dogs!
What a great idea for a thread, thank you for posting this, Frenchy! smile.gif

Oooh, a 'get to know you' topic. How perfect, especially since my favorite topic is myself! smile.gif

More than likely, I have the most boring life here. I live in the middle of nowhere Pennsyl-tucky. I have a regular finance job...til I figure out what I want to do when I grow up (business degree). I too have a dog - a shih tzu poodle mix named Kelsey, and also a rabbit named Oliver North Hasenpfeffer. I'm obsessed with anything Under Armour or Puma, and a hardcore Baltimore Oriole fan. (I know I know, but gotta root for the home town team. Go B-Rob!) I love clothes, shoes, laying on the beach, and sports. The sports are what leave me always injured.

I have two mottoes I live by - "Do your best, forget the rest." and "Be a duck." Both of them, pretty much sum up how I live my life.

It's awesome to read about everyone else too! smile.gif

I've given money to the Yankee Golden Retriever rescue group, as well as the North Shore Animal League. They do wonderful work. I'm so sorry to hear of your sister's golden and hope that things continue to be okay for her...keep me posted on how she's doing, okay? I'll send positive thoughts her way.

Hooray you like my thread (jumping up and down) have to admit I was worried at first people might like the forum for its anonymity and be reluctant to share facts about themselves, glad to see I was wrong, I'm constantly amazed how modern technology makes the world seem smaller. smile.gif

Ok as people have posted more I should too I live at home with my parents as house prices here are craazy, I am in my twenties and I work nights for an emergency vets (where I am right now). I have two sisters both younger one is at uni the other works in insurance. It's nice to see so many animal lovers on here I have spoken to Sag about her pack before but didn't know about others. I have a rescue dog, a border terrier called Scrappy, I'm afraid he has to watch a lot of burn notice. I've never lived anywhere but here. I was a zookeeper before I was a veterinary nurse like I said further up just mad about animals. tongue.gif

Stew thanks for posting, I wanted to join the RAF when I left school but couldn't because I'm short sighted, I would love to do what your daughter does. Soonerlover does that make you a obgyn?, I personally dont do so well with humans as they can talk back lol. Golfergal your the technical one then I'll remember that. Sag a cryptologist that is too cool. Elise texas is reeally hot isn't it? thats like the complete opposite of england I can tell ya. Bobby why do you call your poor dog psycho? lol. Curator I love history and museums I bet your job is really interesting.
Phi I should have known you would have an english degree it shows in your very articulate posting lol, so sorry about your dog it's horrible when they go isn't it, it's like a family member. My advice get a new puppy or better yet a rescue dog they are so deserving it will make you feel happy again

Awww, thank you for your kind thoughts about my beloved golden, Frenchy. I miss him every day - he passed away one year ago next week, so this has been a difficult past few days. sad.gif

And thank you again for the thread - this has been a lot of fun, getting to know everyone! I know there are those who prefer the anonymity, which is completely fine and understandable. [earnest nodding] One thing is for certain: there are a lot of really smart, witty, warm, and thoughtful people in this community.

Philippa - I'm sorry about your doggie too. I have a 10 yr old Boston Terrier named Rocky. I don't know what we'd do without him. His ears and butt are all gray now. He's a big talker - always has something to say .......... especially during Law & Order laugh.gif I think he's into Fi because he's very quiet when BN is on the TV.

Frenchy - it was just a prefect day in El Paso. During the summer it's hotter than hell in the sun, but the shade is always cool (dry heat is different - not at all like Northern VA). OMG not at all like England biggrin.gif

Nice idea Samfrench25, fun to read everyone's bios --Welcome all -- let's see, I was born in cnetral New Jersey and grew up there until I hit twenty when I left to attend college (for a while) in Tucson, AZ [amazingly HOT there], at the U of A (Go Cats!!), and ended up living there about twelve years, then eventually migrated to So. Cal (in 1990) -- I've lived in Huntington Beach, Costa Mesa, and now Oceanside (just a little north of San Diego), love the West Coast weather, babes and beaches.

I've worked mostly in the technical fields and currently am a contract worker for a fairly large company in their R&D group, which design and sell desktop printers.

Love animals, but don't own any pets, cause I live in a small apartment. I love TV, movies, and driving my 2001 Mustang GT (Bullitt edition), most time faster then I ought to (oh ya, and making new friends on-line in this spy-show forum, ya might'a heard of ... laugh.gif

Cheers,
-Mac

Phi, sorry to hear about the loss of your four-legged friend. *sniffle*

I live in Flagstaff AZ, 79 miles from the Grand Canyon. It's amazing how many refreneces there are to Virginia because I left VA to come here to college...34 years ago! It's pretty cold here in the winter but there's nothing like snuggling up under an afghan, with a toasty fire in the woodstove while the wind and snow are howling outside and being transported to sunny Miami with our favorite people. I have a grown son who lives across town and I work for the postal service. I too have pets, a 16 year old cat, a 10 year old Siberian husky and a 7 year old black lab. I must say that since discovering Burn Notice last summer no other TV show compares!

Thanks for this thread, Frenchy. I have been lurking so long it feels like I know people, but it is good to find out more. As for me, my map is NY, Chicago, Detroit, Mexico City, Florida.

Umm, how do I make "45, divorced, alone, no kids, and recently laid off" not sound pathetic? I don't. Them's the facts. I'm an editor who got laid off before Christmas, and am now freelancing a bit, but still looking for a full-time job.

Other interests: baseball, road trips, combining the two, which I have done to visit all current MLB parks and a few defunct ones. March is my favorite month in Florida because it means spring training, which means I get to see baseball close to home, from really good seats, for not much money.

On the animal front: I'm a dog person currently without a dog, but reaaaallly wanting one. Should probably get a real job first.

I love this thread idea!!

Umm, well... I live in Australia in the state of Victoria. I've never travelled anywhere outside Victoria but one day I plan to travel the world. I'm currently a full-time student studying at university. I'm doing a dual diploma in hospitality management and event management and I'm hoping I get a job in either one of those fields.
I've got a number of pets at my place; four cats of varying ages, one 2yo dog, two ducks, two chickens, one rabbit and one smelly old rat. There may be a lot of them but I love every single one of them to bits.
Yeah, I suppose that's it. I'm really looking forward to reading other peoples posts and getting to know them smile.gif

My turn (since I was meaning to do this yesterday) ...

I was born in New Jersey but have lived 95% of my life in Pennsylvania. I'm situated in the wonderful Lehigh Valley area, which is a hop, skip and a jump from New York City and just a stones throw from Philadelphia. (home of the World Series Champions, baby! cool.gif )

I interned @ the Wachovia Center doing everything from instant replay and video editing to camera work for the Flyers & Sixers. Graduated from college with a dual major in Electronic Media / Journalism & PR, then discovered after working in TV News for two years that it was completely not my thing. I'm now an online producer, writer and blogger extraordinare for The Morning Call, which falls under the Tribune flag.

Other random things about me -- I've got a twin sister, which is sometimes as cool as it sounds. We have occassional moments of ESP, and when we were younger we went to each other's classes at school ALL the time wink.gif ... I'm also a bit of a daredevil and can't wait to go jump out of another airplane or two ... I love sports, especially baseball, and practically live at Citizens Bank Park in the summer ... I'm learning to play guitar, though I'm quite terrible I must admit {chuckles} ... I've got like two thousand songs on my iPod, so take that as you will. Music completes me ... I've been a "big sister" with the BBBS program for about 15 months now and love it ... since nearly everyone else has a dog, I do too (a black lab named "Duke" who is my real best friend smile.gif ) .... I love to travel, and one day hope to visit Ireland ... I've "flown" a helicopter over the Grand Canyon, which was about the coolest thing I've ever experienced in my life ... and finally -- one day I hope to become the female equivalent of Matt Nix and bring you all some wonderful TV show you can ramble about continously. It might take a while, but ... I'll get there eventually smile.gif

I was born in New Britain, too!! Small world, huh? Went to NBHS, graduated a loooonnnng time ago! Nice to meet you!

First of all , thanks Frenchy for starting this thread. It has been very interesting reading about everyone.

I grew up on a dairy farm so I love animals too! My brother and his family have a golden retriever, Lucy, and I refer to her as my "fury niece". Lucy is 11 years old and not in the best of health but she still loves to visit the farm.

(Philippa, so sorry to hear about your beloved golden retriever. Thank you for sharing his picture -- I can tell he brought you much joy!)

I live in Southeastern Minnesota not too far away from Rochester, Minnesota where the Mayo Clinic is located. One radio personality refers to this area as the "Miami" of Minnesota. biggrin.gif In the summertime, the temperature is usually hotter/warmer in this area than other parts of Minnesota.

I, like Karendipitee, was laid off at the end of last year like many others due to the economy. I worked in the office for a manufacturing company as a customer service rep and then as a material planner/scheduler and then in the engineering department. At this time, I'm looking into going to school to train in a new field - possibly in the medical field. There is a little more research to do and paperwork to fill out and submit...... biggrin.gif
PhilippaConnors
Man, this economy is wreaking havoc across the country right now, isn't it. Sigh.

I'm getting ready to move as I just can't afford to stay where I am and work hasn't been as steady as of late. In addition to this my mom isn't in the best of health and I'm concerned about her as I'm an only child and want to stay closer to her. It sounds like a lot of people are finding their lives in upheaval right now...

I've heard from people who are working insane amounts of hours, doing the work of four or five people because everyone has been laid off -- and they're the lucky ones, you know? They've still got their jobs! It's very distressing...

Ending on a more hopeful note - I'm really enjoying getting to know everyone, it's been a blast! I'll drop by a little later on and reply in greater depth. We've certainly got a cool group of people in this community.

Keep the intros coming, everyone! smile.gif

Philippa: I'm sorry about your golden. Very pretty dog. I had a collie that had the same thing. She died right after I got married. One of the dogs I have now looks just like her. I adore dogs, I just wish they lived longer. That's why we need to give them all the love we can while they're here with us. mellow.gif

I hope things work out well for you and your mom. There isn't a person I know that isn't struggling right now. Sounds like we're all hurting a bit. Guess we all need to keep the faith and believe that things are going to get better.

This is an awesome thread. We all certainly have a diverse group of people on this board. Burn Notice really appeals to all different types of people. I guess Burn Notice's greatness is universal!

I am from the Hudson Valley area. I live a little over an hour from NYC. I have lived here all my life and I have a feeling I will always live here. I am 28 years old. I just bought a house two years ago and got married this past September to my boyfriend of 8 years. We have no children yet but I am sure we will have some potential mini-spies in the future. tongue.gif I went to college for chemical engineering but half way through schooling, I ended up working as the human resource manager for an employment agency. I am still here enjoying my time working with people instead of chemicals. I am horribly allergic to cats and dogs but I love them still so I visit my two sisters' cats all the time with the help of a jug of Benadryl. I do have a little black rabbit named Lou who thinks he is a dog. Other than Burn Notice, I love the band 311, the New York Mets, and I am beyond an avid reader. I am in the middle of reading all the Scarpetta novels by Patricia Cornwell (I just read three of them this week!) and I can’t wait to read the new Burn Notice book coming out soon.

Hi everyone! rolleyes.gif I'm in rural coastal RI (so far, it looks as if "cargram" is geographically closest to me). I've tried desperately to come up with some connection to Virginia, but alas, I've got nothin'..........

My parents, however, do live in Florida (Ellenton) but unfortunately, we are not on the best of terms and I have not seen them in over a decade......Sadly, this is a good thing........

Karendipitee (hope I spelled that right), I am 48, divorced, no children, no partner, no siblings. (But I still have a job through July; after that, it's anyone's guess.....) I live with my ex-boyfriend of 11 years because the financial arrangement works for us at the moment, although sometimes, it can be.....awkward. We also share custody of 4 cats, and it would be a battle to split them. Our last dog (we had 3 when we moved here 8 years ago) was put to sleep last summer. It was crushing.

I have a master's degree in Oceanography, and teach Oceanography, Geology, and Biology at a small private college in NW Rhode Island. My job insecurity stems from the fact that I do not have a PhD, and cannot apply for a long-term tenure-track position. Instead, I've worked 12 years on a 1-year "non-renewable" contract. Sounds like an automatic renewal guarantee, but not this year......

Oh yeah, and I'm an 8 year breast cancer survivor. Any other cancer survivors on this board?

Oh, I like this thread! smile.gif

Alright, well first off I'm Kristen, but mostly everyone calls me Kris. I live in Northwest Indiana. Downtown Chicago is 15 minutes from where I live. I'm 19, the youngest of five kids and I'm getting my degree in communications (media studies emphasis) and political science. I'm a lifeguard/swim instructor during the summer months.

I love sports, both watching and playing. I'm a diehard Cubs & Colts fan. I grew up golfing and I can't wait to get back out on the courses, and I'm anxiously awaiting the Masters in April. I live for March Madness, GO DUKE! In high school I was a shot put and discus thrower, advanced to regionals and almost got to state. I love working out as well.

I'm very much so enthralled by television. Directing, production, scriptwriting, you name it and I'm fascinated by it. Theater is another one of my loves as well. I've stage managed before and am a big fan of Broadway.

I am obsessed with New York City. I will live there one day.

Hi Kristen! Nice to meet a fellow Cubs fan. I loved your posts about Don't Dress For Dinner.

Hey nice to meet you, huskies are such lovely dogs, is yours really vocal? when we have them in @ work they talk to us all the time

Another animal lover and woo hoo I'm not the only one not in the US

Hey Sig I love your blog and I believe you could write some wicked TV, flying over the grand canyon huh that must have been a buzz. I used to play giutar but now I mostly play guitar hero lol. By the way your editor seems pleased I read his blog he sent me a pm to say I was the first international reader.

There is a little more research to do and paperwork to fill out and submit...... biggrin.gif

Hey I grew up on a farm too, not my parent's my uncle's, he semi adopted me as have I mentioned I'm an animal lover lol. Sorry to hear you were laid off the UK is having a lot of job cuts too, no one knows what will happen.

I am in the middle of reading all the Scarpetta novels by Patricia Cornwell (I just read three of them this week!) and I can't wait to read the new Burn Notice book coming out soon.

Hey Kirpez I prefer animals to people they dont talk back lol. Except you good folks of course.

Wow guys this has been really fun, keep posting everyone. I now feel I know you all a little better smile.gif

Hey Kris, hooray I'm not the youngest here!. It seems everyone here is such a 'grown up' was giving me quite a complex lol. I too love theatre it evokes such passion in people that TV and film just cant quite do. My sister wants to get into stage managemnet but it's very very difficult here. Pleased to meet you.

Hey, StewH...the Monterey Peninsula is my favorite weekend spot and I spend as much time there as possible. Would eventually love to live in the Monterey area, if my bank account can ever afford it (doubtful!). tongue.gif Am suspecting that you taught for the Defense Language Institute there, but if that's classified information, I totally understand...LOL biggrin.gif I have two friends who trained there in languages. Five tours for your daughter? Wow. Her job training military guard dogs sounds fascinating.

Have greatly enjoyed reading everyone's bios, and Phi, must say, I am so sorry about the loss of your Golden. They have got to be one of the gentlest, most beautiful dogs ever. I do hope you'll be able to get another one eventually.

My info is short...I live on the San Francisco Peninsula, am working (endlessly, it seems) toward a masters in Environmental Education, teach science classes at a private school, and am obsessed with kayaking, loving especially Glacier Bay in Alaska and the Ten Thousands Islands area of the Everglades. Next on the to do list...learning how to scuba dive.

Hey Jenna I too feel like I work endlessly (I'm there right now in fact) but i do get a lot of down time at work being on- call. Not really a daredevil like you but kudos I couldn't do it.
We dont have baseball here but are there any motorsport fans out there? thats more my thing. Love the WRC.

Hi Catreona,

I was in Narragansett RI last summer for a wedding. So pretty around there. Yeah, I am not thrilled with the unemployed and alone life, but the silver lining I search for daily is that they can't fire me again. Much as I want a new job, do I want to start worrying about another company's corporate health? The other advantage has been plenty of time to watch BN marathons! The show has been a bright spot in quite a few ways for me.

Hey, JennaV. Next time you come down, gimme a shout or a PM. Yes, I'm still working at the DLI, but not teaching anymore. Don't worry, it's not classified! biggrin.gif All but one of my daughter's tours were in Iraq or Kuwait; the lone exception was Kirghistan. And she really loves training the dogs, except she works long hours.

No worries...I am so not a grown up. I'm 26, but look about 16, and act 12! In fact, just today...My new neighbor asked when my mom and dad were coming home haha. Wonder how the boy felt about being mistaken for my dad? lol. Also noticed, you're european...I lived in Spain for a while a few years ago. It was definitely good times. (it was pre Beckham on Real Madrid days...) We traveled quite a bit, but never did get to England. So I guess my point is...I'm not grown up, and kind of Europeany-ish just like you smile.gif

...did i mention i'm currently taking a lot of pain medication haha
