Hello Guys!
I haven't been back in a while. But I have been watching the episodes regularly, and I generally love almost all the episodes of the latter half of the 3rd season. Shawn's quirkiness is back, and Gus is playing even more.
There's a lot to say about specific things and specific episodes, but I only just wrote in to say something about this Shawn and Jules thing.
We all know they'll eventually end up together. And right now they're just keeping it cool, laying it low and taking it slow because it might kill the show.
I don't necessarily agree with this.
The hints of a romance are *too* subtle and too under the radar that you don't get a sense of a deeper connection between the two at all. There's nothing there. Even when characters point it out, you don't believe it because we're never given any crumbs that could satisfyingly be considered a direction towards romance.
Even Juliet wanting to go out on a date in the season finale seemed out of place. It seemed like something completely out of the blue, and something they put in there just to remind us that there's supposed to be something there.
But the thing is, it's never hinted properly. In the episode "Earth, Wind and... Wait for It", look at the scene where the abandoned building blew up with Shawn inside. Juliet never showed any appropriate emotional response to the possibility that someone she had feelings for may well be dead. There's nothing there. It's a wasted opportunity to push the relationship forward.
In Chuck's episode last night where the normally cool and aloof CIA Agent Sarah Walker sees Chuck's car explode, she almost breaks down in tears, showing emotion that she has never shown before. It's a great moment, and it pushes Chuck and Sarah's relationship forward. With Juliet, there's nothing.
So when she comes up to Shawn in the the drive in, it doesn't ring true.
I don't know why the fans and the writers are so afraid to push this relationship forward. You're all scared that the show is going to jump the shark once they get together. You think they show is going to go downhill because the thrill is gone.
I put forward the notion that you all might be wrong.
Writers, if you intend to get these two together, ditch the subtlety. Just go for it. GO FOR IT.
Romance killed Mork and Mindy and Moonlighting because the show was about them. Mork and Mindy was *about* Mork and Mindy. Moonlighting was *about* David and Maddie.
PSYCH is about SHAWN and GUS. Not Shawn and Juliet. It's all about SHAWN and GUS and their friendship. Shawn can stand to have a girlfriend, and it won't hurt the show a bit if it just happened to be Juliet.
Knock off the pussyfooting around already and hook these guys up.
It will not affect Psych in any significant way, and many fans will be satisfied (although some of the romance haters won't be).
