Although I think the poodles are beautiful, elegant dogs, i'm getting tired of them getting either best in group or best in show. ... or coming very very close. I've watched Westminster for several years and it just seems that the poodles are ALWAYS ranked amoung the top. Perhaps i'm not remembering correctly but it seems that way. I'm sure there are other dogs in the group that are just as "perfect" as a poodle. Again, they are beautiful dogs but they can't be the top every year.

Unfortuanately this is just a fact of dog shows. That "functional" haircut also serves to make the dog look flashy and give it some pizzazz and very nicely emphasizes their movement. Most judges are looking for a dog with a little something extra all of these dogs are close to perfect specimens so there has to be something else to make them stand out. Even a poodle with no personality looks like it may have that special something. As someone who shows a rare breed in the sporting group I have the same gripe about labs and goldens but its something thats never gonna change so we just accept it.

I appreciate the explanation but if these shows only showcased the flamboyant coats, haircuts, etc. of certain breeds -- I don't think it would have the ratings they have come to enjoy. I don't want to see one kind of any breed be the consistent winner. I'm certainly not in the "program" merely a spectator but I am tired of the poodle always representing the non-sporting breed. Why have over 170 breeds and only concentrate on 5?
