Let's see what you guys make of this one:
"Sometimes I effing hate this job."
The two posts under me are that way because, origionally, this was challenge #15 until someone pointed out that #14 didn't exist. So I changed it.

I think this one should be 14.....cuz the last one, about not doing that again, was #13.
I'll see what I can do with this challenge. Don't think I can work it into my story, tho.....

My entry. Hope you get something out of it.
------------------------------------------------------------------
It was cold and quiet in the room. The only other occupants had long since left their worries and problems behind them. Not so the man standing in front of her.
He had so many worries, so many problems, and he couldn't seem to stop himself from dragging them around in front of everyone.
Which, given her position, shouldn't have been troubling in the least bit, except for the fact that this man... This one always had to come down and look at them. Smell and poke and prod and inspect every last detail... Every. Single. Time.
At first it was nice, a detective who really looked, who would pay close attention to her reports both verbal and written. Then he got worse and worse, the rest of his life taking it's toll.
Sometimes she wondered, with a bit of sadness, how long it would be before he wound up here for the last time, lying cold and still under her care. She chastised herself for having the thought at all, but she couldn't deny it completely. She was still trained as a medical doctor and the writing was on the wall.
Sometimes, only for a minute, but sometimes, Dr. Rodgers hated this job.

He had been coming to this bar for a month. It wasn't the best place in town but there was something about the bartender that had caught his eye. Actually it was her eyes, they were the most deepest shade of blue he had ever seen, she had the most beautiful smile, she was kind even when the guys got a little sleazy. A couple of times he thought he would have to intervene when things got a little ruff, but she handled herself well. She could turn a guy down and make him think she just did him the greatest favor. He had never been nervous about asking a girl out before but this one made him feel like the little shy boy he was back in school and probably she would shoot him down just like everyone else.
"Time for another," she asked smiling.
He just nodded.
"Do you actually talk, Mr. Goren?" she laughed.
"How do you know my name?" he asked.
"Last time you were hear you used a credit card. I have an excellent memory," she replied as she put down his beer. "Plus you're a man of mystery, women love mystery," she smiled as she walked away to serve drinks on the other side of the bar, but she kept looking back at him.
He thought maybe this was the night, maybe he could just ask her out for coffee. Offer her to learn more about the man of mystery. His cell phone rang,
"Goren," he said.
"Bobby, we have a double homicide, Captain wants us right there right away," said Eames.
"Ok, be right there," he hung up his cell phone and looked down the bar at the bartender.
"Sometimes I effing hate this job."He heads toward the door. "Goodnight Mr. Goren." she says.
"It's Bobby and I will see you tomorrow night," he replied.
"I'm off tomorrow, but look at you're receipt," she smiled.
He looked down at his receipt and saw Angela 555-3454
He smiled.
" But I hope to still see you tomorrow night," she said.
"Me too," he replied.

Good job Jryan. Bobby can still pull in girls anytime he wants.

Without even trying!

Ok, here's what I came up with, well, it is what I came up with after I decided that this wasn't the place for the obvious scene for this line... you know, the one that is interrupted in the bedroom...
--Purgatory--
Bobby smirked as he heard the sandwich shop workers complaining. He never hated his job: never. He was aware of that fact. What he wasn’t aware
of was – why.
The job kept his brain occupied, so that he didn’t have to think things he didn’t want to think, and feel things he didn’t want to feel.
He had learned to read faces, and predict behavior as a kid. He had to; it was survival. Now, he used those skills for good. He remembered telling the thief, “when a man finds his calling…”
Oh, it felt like a quest for justice, and in some part, it was.
But to get into someone’s mind, to gain the confession- it gave him a sense of control that had been missing his whole life.
He couldn’t see it.
Over the years, it had become more and more of his life. The good women he let go, the poker games he didn’t attend, the friendships he cut short, the hobbies he had not pursued, they were all part of the sacrifice he made as he continued to push away the feelings.
Just like Frank lived to use drugs and gamble; he lived to pursue the truth.
Just like it.
He couldn’t see it.
He could remember his own words, “See, that’s what happens when you keep people from doing what they do best. It makes them insane,” but he still couldn’t see the real truth. The real reasons that
he HAD to get his shield back, no matter what.
That is why he couldn’t understand why she was so upset. He couldn’t see it.
Even today, after finding a rat in his desk, and seeing the hurt on the face of his best friend, and partner, he couldn’t say, “Sometimes I effing hate this job.”

You 3 did a great job. I liked all of them. All very different, all very good.
I too liked all of the stories. Janx I liked Dr. Rodgers, it's always nice to see her as a real person instead of just an M.E. JRyan, you made be want to be a bartender, just to be able to give Bobby my number. YRU, that was an interesting take on Purgatory.
I am adding my own. It also takes place after Purgatory.
"Sometimes I f*****g hate this job!" He said this as he accepted a refill on his scotch.
"You knew it wouldn't be easy" was all she said in reply.
"How do I fix this?"
"Why do you feel that this is your problem to fix? You did what you had to do. It's not like you were given a choice in the matter."
"Maybe not, but the whole undercover operation. I knew that it was a mistake to keep….."
Cutting into his comment she said "As a detective who has worked undercover in the past there should have been an understanding of why nothing could be said." You're right, the results could have been tragic, but they weren't. You have to stop beating yourself up, it's not going to get you anywhere."
"I know you're right, but you don't understand the repercussions of this. The rat in the desk drawer is the least of my problems."
"The partnership? You think that it won't survive? You need to give the relationship a little more credit."
"I don't doubt that the partnership will survive."
"Then what's bothering you?"
"I'm worried that the trust is gone. On both sides. And I don't know how friendship survives without that trust."
"Friendships are organic, they have a life span, and maybe this one has reached a natural end"
"I'd like to believe that it wasn't true"
"Why?"
"Because friendship is a good and powerful thing. Other people might not "get it" but it's as real as you and me standing right here, and it's important and I wouldn't wish that kind of loss on anyone." "
God, I hope they can get back in sync Liz. I swear sometime's I f*****g hate this job." "Danny Ross" he said as his phone rang.

Oh, this one is sad! But they can rebuild the friendship, right? Right???

I think so. They started on the path last year with the exchange in the episode with Eric Roberts and I think by Frame they had reestablished a firmer foundation, before Bobby's world came crashing down. I'd like to see them get back to how they were early on, but I guess you can't go back. So maybe what I really wish is that they grow back better than ever during the next season.

Well, here comes my pathetic little venture.
___________________________________________________________
Grimly Captain Ross walked toward the body again. It would be better, he told himself, after they pulled the sheet over the still form. Then he wouldn't have to see the dispair, the fatigue, the hopelessness in the victim's face. He had almost forgotten the feel of being in the same room as a body. Lately he'd been going on pictures alone, and while they were factually accurate. . .
Rodgers stood up and looked at him. "Pretty straightfoward Danny. Put the gun under his chin and fired. Tell her I'm-I'm so sorry."
He nodded absently. Walking into the next room, he saw Wheeler softly crying, burying her head in her partner's shoulder. Logan looked numb; they were the only cops to show up out of respect.
Running his hand through his hair, he took a glance around the apartment. There wasn't much. Photographs, some coat hangers, a jacket. Some books. An empty apartment. Now it felt emptier than ever.
A uniform sidled up to him. "Sir, we found this note--"
He took it and read. Did this all badly. I know that now. Don't want to live like this, without her. Better this way. She's free from me. Maybe someday I'll get to see her and apologise like I should have done. Anyway that's it. Bye.
Ross stared, short of breath. This is it? Such a man of action and words reduced to these few lines? It was impossible, it was obscene!
He went to her then. She'd come to talk things over, and found him lying there. When the others had arrrived, she'd been holding his body, shaking it, telling him to wake up, please just wake up. He'd make sure she woudn't get a censure for disturbing the scene.
"Eames--"
She looked at him. "I was going to forgive him! I was! I just--I didn't feel he deserved it just yet. I was going to! He looked so sad, but I walked away, I went out for a drink with my sister--"
At that, she collapsed again. The noise she made was less human and more like an animal being slaughtered. Rodgers came over and knelt down, putting an arm around Eames and speaking softly into her ear.
He'd worked so hard to get his shield back. Ross went to where his covered body lay and stared down at him. I know how it is, he thought. You work hard to get the thing you think you want, and it turns out that it's not REALLY what you want after all. And then you realize the truth, but it's too damn late. And now it's too late for . . . anything.
"Sometimes," he said to Bobby's body, "I effing hate this job."

Unsteady - It was a good scene, if depressing, but I just can't see Eames acting that way. At least not in front of other people. Wheeler either. They're all too professional for that. Maybe when they told her about Joe being killed, but not Bobby. She might cry a little at the scene, but I don't think she'd freak out quite that hard unless it was later in private.
Ross' reaction to the note was good though. I'm sure he would think something like that if Bobby wrote a note that terse and cold.
Keep up the good work!

Great job everyone!
I know I've already posted once on this challenge. But I decided I wanted to do something upbeat.
I hope you like it.
"I don't know about this" Bobby said as his partner pulled her car into the nearest parking space.
"Coward" was her only reply
"What? You are in better shape than I am, Eames. I'll be winded after the first piece of equipment."
"Look, you're the one who told me that you wanted to make a change, drop some weight, tone back up, remember?"
"Yeah, I remember, but it doesn't seem like such a good idea any more. Here comes your friend."
"Hey Tom, this is my partner, Bobby Goren. Thanks for letting us use your private training room for a while."
"Nice to meet you Bobby. How long do think you'll need the room Alex?"
"About 2 hours, is that okay?"
"Sure thing. I've got a big shot coming in later but he won't be in until around 10."
"Who does private training at 10 o'clock at night?"
"You don't want to know. Here let me take you to the room"
Once Tom left the room Bobby started complaining again. "I really don't think that this is a good idea. How about I treat you to a margarita instead"
"How about I give you a little motivation instead. For every exercise I beat you at you have to remove an item of clothing."
"Wha……………..?"
"Consider it motivation to work a little harder."
And what do I get if I beat you?"
"The satisfaction of beating me" laughed Alex.
"No, no, no. What's good for the goose is good for the gander. If I beat you at an exercise, you lose an item of clothing."
Alex raised an eyebrow, pursed her lips, and considered this for a moment.
"Okay"
"Really?"
"I'm not planning on losing anything, so why not?"
Bobby laughed out loud at her confidence. "Okay what's first?"
"Once we've stretched out we'll start with the bike. We'll take turns, and I'll let you decide whether you want to be first or you want me to go first."
As they got onto the bikes, Alex told Bobby that this task was to set the bike at the mountain bike level and ride 10 miles the fastest. Bobby adopted the "ladies first attitude" and allowed Alex to start the challenge.
Alex flew through the biking challenge and beat Bobby handily. He hung his head for a moment. As he bent over to untie a shoe, Alex told him that shoes cannot be removed as they would be needed during the program. Bobby continued to take off his shoe, removed a sock and put the shoe back on.
The second challenge was sit ups. They had 5 minutes to do as many sit ups as possible with the person keeping time counting. The time was kept on a stop watch. Once again Alex beat Bobby handily. He just sighed as he removed the other sock.
"I knew this was a bad idea"
"Cheer up, this is one you might actually have a chance at." smirked Alex.
The third challenge was the leg push. The challenge was to set the weight at 50 lbs and do up to 25 correct presses. If successful, the other person would take a turn to see if they could match or beat the number. If each person reached 25, they would move the peg down 1 notch and continue until there was a clear winner.
This time, much to Alex's surprise, Bobby was the winner. When she started to whip off her t-shirt she noticed that her partner's jaw dropped and he turned red. He was reward with a sports top and a laugh.
"I always start with a t-shirt on, but I'm starting to get a little warm" said Alex.
Bobby replied "Yeah, I uh me too"
The competition continued with chin-ups, which Alex won, resulting in Bobby removing his t-shirt and contemplating how he was going to salvage his dignity. At the same time his partner was wondering what he would do if she won two more exercises. She was really enjoying herself and he didn't seem nearly as depressed as he was when they walked into the building.
With that thought in her mind, she threw the next two exercises, one a rowing machine and the other involving bicep curls. She hotly denied that she was throwing the challenges, asking for a water break after the bicep curl exercise.
After a brief break they moved on to squats. Bobby visibly blanched at the thought, but he watched Alex, prayed as hard as he could and never gave up. The only problem was he lost.
Alex couldn't help laughing at him as he played with the waist band of his sweats.
"Come On….. you know the rules, the sweats or the underwear, what's it going to be?"
"How do know I'm wearing underwear?"
Alex turned beet red "Oh my God….. Are you going commando?"
Bobby raised his eyebrow – "What if I am?"
Just then both cell phones began to ring. There was a call and they were needed at a crime scene. As they each went into their respective locker rooms to change back to street clothes, both considering the path they had been about to head down, they both had the same thought……"Sometimes I f'ing hate this job."
