Shawn and Gus join up with a local firehouse to prove a series of arsons are more than they seem. Bruce McGill (Animal House and MacGyver) guest star. And already I am loving how Shawn and Gus are dressed as firemen!

I can't wait for this episode. It looks quite promising if I don't say so myself. I'm thinking Andy Berman wrote it as well, because he is pretty well known for getting "Wait for itttt" into his episodes at some point. I'm so excited for this episode! I love that Shawn and Gus are getting a chance to be prove themselves lately. They've shown that they're more to the SBPD than just "psychic consultants." They're sort of becoming part of the police family--last week with Lassie we saw how much they care about everyone in that office, and this week with the danger they'll surely put themselves in, I'm guessing we'll see the SBPD show some concern for Shawn and Gus, maybe taking some risks to help Shawn and Gus out, and then we'll get to see how much they care about our favorite duo. Kudos to the writers. I really like that they're giving these relationships space to evolve. Season 3, part 2 is GREAT!

I see that they're also poking fun at NCIS: when they're all surrounding the coroner's table, the camera takes moving shots of all the characters individually, just like NCIS. This should be fun.

I agree with you 100%! I don't know what it is, but I fangirl all over the place when Shawn is in danger and pulls through, being the hero. Gus too. They saved two lives and it was awesome with all the slow motion and music and ... THE FIST BUMP!
Same with the Shules stuff. When she asked where Shawn was, I expected her to realize that he was in the building and get very scared when it exploded and then run up toward the building only to see Shawn exit safely. So, she runs up to him and hugs him. Okay, I knew not all of that would go down, but a girl can dream.

This episode was so funny. It had me laughing. Shawn and Gus are too much. Shawn wanted to be a fireman and his father wanted him to be a cop.
Gus was strong, he carried that man out of that building. I thought that Gus going to be holding his back, after the man was taken away from him.
Gus is so sweet, he voluntered at the fire station. Shawn bought Gus that dog. The funny thing about that scene was, Gus noticed the spots that Shawn had put on the dog. Poor dog. He wasn't a Dalmation, but he was going to be a homemade one. After, I"ve seen that episode, I have seen a clip for a dog show that will be coming on and they had a dog just like the one Shawn bought Shawn, but it was a different color.

Once again, another good episode has aired. Although not quite as good as last week's perfect 'Ten,' there was still much to enjoy, and much laughter amidst the drama.
At first, Shawn's being more idiotic than usual was getting on my nerves. I decided to forgive him and invent excuses for his behavior, because: 1) He's still suffering from the lingering effects of last week's concussion (Trust me, when your significant other who has an Engineering Degree suddenly forgets how to add two plus two, you know a concussion can cause temporary impairment); 2) Half the time, I think Shawn is purposely trying to irritate Gus or Lassiter with his word questions. I mean, come on, Shawn's Dad's a cop; he knew when Lassiter talked about issuing a BOLO(be on the lookout), he wasn't talking about a tie. 3) Without Shawn's idiotic behavior of running into a burning building, we wouldn't have gotten to see Shawn and Gus sitting on a gurney, wearing their firefighter gear.

Last week's show was more of an ensemble piece, so I liked that this week Gus had more to do. From a purely superficial standpoint, Dulé looked mighty fine in the last scene in that tight SBFR t-shirt.
And, while I'm being superficial, the fact that James Roday's weight gain is all muscle was evidenced by his heroically carrying the arson investigator lady (and what does that say about me, that I can't even remember the character's name

out of the burning building. The skinny mini Shawn from Season One would have had a hard time doing the same, and would probably have dropped her!

I've watched Psych since it started and I've enjoyed it. Really funny stuff. Until last nights episode. Why would a network, a writer, and actors all conspire to denigrate and attack the Wiccan religion? It was a very offensive episode and it is sad to see such a thing. Make fun of Christianity, Judaism or better yet, make fun of the Muslims. Try that and see if you're safe. Good thing Wiccans are peaceful. I don't think I'll be watching Psych any more but it was fun while it lasted. Religious discrimination should never happen just to get a laugh.

Okay... I'll be honest, I don't think the full fireman uniforms (costumes? LOL) are very attractive for our boys... but I do agree that the firefighter t-shirts were *very* flattering.
But even more than that (yes, I love Tim Omundson)... Lassie. Lassie is looking *HOT* this second half of season 3. Every episode he just keeps looking so good. Lassie in bullet-proof vest? *Awesome.* Lassie in the interrogation room? *Smokin'.*
I really did like the Shawn talking to Lassie through the skull bit (especially when it makes such good Psych-Outs for the end of the ep). Lots more I liked, but forgetting this early in the morning...

I agree. I enjoyed last week episode more, but there were things I did like. Your picture is one of them! Shawn and Gus doing drills with fire department reminded me of the movie (not the ride) Backdraft! And them doing the drills helped them later when they got to be heroes, how awesome is that!
This episode had the two people from the movie
Animal House: Bruce McGill (Maddog) who played the chief and Tim Matheson (Otter) who did a great job directing this episode!
And who is not loving that they bought back the extended opening credits, again! I loved James singing "Tommy" in the Psych-Out, which Tim lost it!

I just finished watching for the first time a few minutes ago, and maybe it's because I was distracted a lot during the episode and had to keep pausing and coming back, but this episode just didn't feel as...tight. I very much enjoyed it, and there were definitely funny moments, but as with all shows, not every episode's going to be a total favorite...and it was that way for me. Of course, the need to pause came almost immediately when they introduced the arson investigator and I was like "okay...I know her. Where do I know her from?" So I had to pause and go in search. Turns out, I knew her from both Law & Order and K-Ville. After that, though, I don't know...something just didn't flow quite right for me. And it really frustrates me when there's an episode that, for some reason, I don't seem to enjoy as much...and can't figure out why.

I have to agree. I'd definitely write a letter voicing your displeasure. I can totally see how it'd be viewed as potentially offensive, and it really is too bad that that's how it came across. However, as I watched the scene, I more saw it as Shawn, who probably doesn't know too much about Wicca, just being a bit of an idiot. No, it doesn't excuse it, but it does show that he's human and he makes judgements (sometimes bad) like we all do. For instance, in "Six Feet Under the Sea," I found myself more than a little annoyed when Shawn committed one of my biggest pet peeves when he referred to something as "super gay." I've never quite understood why "gay" gets used so much as derogatory term, but it's sadly part of the lingo nowadays. And apparently, as awesome as Shawn and Gus are, they sometimes make these most human of mistakes, too.

What is Wiccan? I know people have mentioned it's a religion, but what kind of religion? What happen in Psych that would offend someone?
Wicca is a nature based religion where the followers practice witchcraft to give back to the Earth, but they cannot use their magic for personal gain or to do harm to anyone because their number one rule is the Three Fold Law which is basically karma. If they send out any negative spells, the spells will come back to them three times more. So it's not like someone can do a spell to cause their enemy to break out in hives because they will break out three times worse than the other person. So instead, they would perform a kind spell to attract peace. But not all Wiccans actually perform magic. It's bout finding peace and tranquility. They worship the God and the Goddess. And their religious symbol is the Pentacle, which is a five-pointed star (one point up, two points down) within a circle, the same way the cross is the symbol for Christianity. The Pentacle is said to be protection from evil.
If you Google 'Wicca' you can find a bunch of informative websites, but be careful. Not all the websites are accurate. Any websites that advertise that Wicca is a Satan worshiping religion is
dead wrong!
I don't really remember what happened on Psych last night. I honestly remember that scene too well; I was kind of distracted at that part, so I'll leave someone else to answer that question.

Hi all,
I thought I'd share an opinion from a friend who watches The Mentalist, a show I have never been able to watch for a complete hour without becoming bored. Evidently, the January 13th episode of The Mentalist did a hatchet job on all things Wicca. So, if someone saw that particular episode of The Mentalist, they would be more likely to be offended by an innocent reference in Psych that was done all in fun. There is a big difference between the attitudes the two programs showed toward Wicca.
I'm told that The Mentalist . . . had one cop repeat over and over that witches are just 'geeks in capes' . . . put Wiccans into the same categories as Trekkies, etc. . . had one of the show's characters say something to the effect that 'Wicca is just a silly lifestyle.' To sum up, I offer the following quote from a Wiccan website: "'Witchcraft malarkey' I believe is another quote from the main character. Could you be any more insulting? Pagans and those with alternative beliefs fight against ridicule every day and then CBS perpetrates even further ignorance."
BTW, just because The Mentalist episode aired before Psych's, does not mean that The Mentalist writers wrote their reference first (remember Psych's break between the first and second half of the season?) Although James and Dulé were gracious when referring to The Mentalist, I'm still more than a little bothered by what I consider to be the theft of intellectual property.
Ah, well, time to get psyched up for another new episode of Psych. Hopefully there will be lots of locker room scenes next week.

A bit OT... but that is one of my pet peeves as well (along with similar uses of "retarded"). Psych used a similar line in "And Down the Stretch Comes Murder" and I definitely took note of it then. Yet, at the same time, I don't feel that the Psych writers really mean to be derogatory, or at the very least I don't believe them to be rampantly homophobic given the subtle "man love" they have portrayed in the show ('partners' and 'shower for two' in Nine Lives, the rear-end slap to Lassie from Shawn in Dis-Lodged, the suggestion of Shawn and Lassie being lovers in Lassie Did a Bad, Bad Thing, the groping/struggle in Speak Now, etc)

Oh, I totally agree. And when it happens, I try and just think that maybe they wanted to have Gus or Shawn say something that shows that they say things without thinking sometimes, too.
At the same time, if something
does bother someone, I fully support the idea of them writing a note to voice their displeasure. I think it could help the writers take a step back and avoid writing something that could be misconstrued.
Overall, though, I think they do a great job -- I know it'd be pretty easy to throw in a few more cuss words since they're on cable, but the writers avoid that, for which they should be saluted.
