Full Version: To Love and Die was Bad, REALLY BAD!!!

This show just sucked. It was not even remotely believable. Any assassin that could be tracked down by an airhead would have been caught long before his "daughter" could have grown up and found him. Even if you were willing to put the fatal plot falls aside the bad acting and worse writing made this show completely unwatchable.
The paintball seen was a joke, even someone who had never been hit by a really paintball would know you don't play wearing nothing but a white spaghetti strap tank top and worst they were only wearing plastic safety glasses that they took off while still in the shooting area., And seriously who would believe that a spoiled ditsy girl raised by her mother in an upscale neighborhood would know about using a remote controlled bee to kill someone? But sure enough that had one in the next seen that was at most a day later. It always sucks to get hooked on a show only to have it canceled and while this show has every indication that it won't last, I don't think anyone will care.
If this show was on a regular network it would not even last long enough for the the episodes that have already been filmed to air, but with the downfall of USA's programming over the last few years it will probably make it into its 3rd or 4th "season" (I'm not sure what they call a season anymore since most of there shows have about 8 episodes the a 4-5 month break and 6-7 more episodes) but I guess I should not expect much from the network that thinks its a good idea to air Elf for 24 hours, and worse to do it after Christmas is already over.
Even USA must not be expecting much from this show since it does not have its own forum

It was boring.

Wow. Harsh. My husband and I both really liked it which is why I came on the USA website to try to find out if it was going to be a "regular" show. They could stand to do some more advertising, especially on their own website. Unfortunately my husband and I are watching this in its first season, which is usually the kiss of death for any show, with few exceptions (Psych for example).

So when is this show going to be on because I haven't been able to find a listing for it...

Are you serious. I really enjoyed it. It was a light hearted and fun. Not sure what you guys were looking for???

Exactly. Fun and light hearted... we all need something like that once in a while.
Prankster
I think its going to be on Tuesday nights at 8 EST

I'm not sure about everyone else but I was looking for something a little more believable and with a real story line.
First what kind of quack does your mom have to be to have a locked (with a dead bolt, on an inside door) room in her house that she keeps info on her kids dad? If she did not want her to know about him why keep the stuff at the house?I also find it hard to believe that she had never gone into the room before. Also she picked it in 10 seconds with a hairpin, Who still wears hairpins? and what kind of cheap deadbolt can a girl pick with it? This show just expected you to watch mindlessly and not think. Seriously what kinda of professional killer can be tracked down with no work? And if he was an assassin why did the mom still have up to date info on him when he did not know he had a daughter? Has this guy never head of using a fake name?

If you didn't like it then why did you watch it, and if your complaining about the network then why are you watching it. All this rambling is not necessary just say you hated and get on, and you didn't even make sense. Personally i think the show was great and can't wait for it to come back on. Im really into it.
Prankster. chill its just a show. What shoe do you know on tv that has a real story line.......... None. its just entertainment. And the mom didn't have up to date info on him. If you were watching the daughter used software that aged people and thats how she got his picture.maybe you should have watched closer.

Thank you for that information. biggrin.gif

I never said I did not like the network, just that their programing has fallin off lately (That means they were better than they are now for the dimwits)

Well I liked it. I'm actually sitting here watching it again (second showing at midnight). It's enjoyable and fun! Something that most USA shows has. This show could go in so many directions. I hope it does become a regular series.

Well, I watched it because I wanted to know if it was going to be good or not. So before you go on with "If you didn't like it, why watch it?" speech, I just wanted to let you know, Because we were looking forward to it but it turned out to kinda suck. I agree. Its like gilmore girls meets get smart. it was ok, though. I wasn't really paying attention but it was ok. Who knew it would suck? I thought it would be good but nevermind. You can have your opinions and stuff and it would be inmature to say that my statement was a fact so I'm going to hold myself back from that and let you enjoy the rest of your lives in front of the t.v.

Wow. Harsh people. Great way to spread the holiday cheer, guys!

Excellent show! Roswell chick nailed it. Didn't even recognize her as an action comedy star.

Johnny Quest did a great job too.

USA did a great job hiding it, to "justify" its decision to kill it.

Hopefully there's an Episode 2?

biggrin.gif Now that's funny!
HellonHeels
The show isn't based in realism. I mean, hello, it's a comedy about being a contract killer! The show makes fun and pokes at killers. USA has a knack for unrealistic series like this. Monk for example. So why all the technical crap about the paintball scene? It was funny and that's all it was meant to be. Besides, you can turn down those paintball guns. Younger kids play with them, as those two girls did on the show. Me and my friends have run around in t-shirts spraying each other with paint and I'm still alive. I think some of you wanted the show to be bad for whatever reason so you watched for all the wrong reasons (all while watching it for TWO HOURS) and even bolded the title to get as much attention as possible. Sorry to tell ya, but people loved this movie and if USA actually advertises it as it deserves, it could be a real gem of a series.
celaine
I felt that the show was entertaining, which is what TV is suppose to be. I really hope that it becomes a regular on the USA Network. I hope that I can add this to my list of shows to watch.
Snickerz
I thought it was a cute and funny show, not very realistic but that was part of its charm. I think it will make a good series.
ILYOLIVIA
The only reason I watched it for 2 whole hours is because the t.v is right next to the computer and I was on the computer all during that time so I had no choice. I could have changed the channel but there was noting else on. It was from 8:00 till 10:00 so I just waited for it to be over so I could watch Leverage at 10:00. I ddn't expect it to be bad. It just was.

I'm sorry but if boring was a movie/t.v show it would be called To Love and Die
Sixx
I loved this show... it had excellent actors, well timed comedy and needs to be made into a series. USA airs all of my favorite shows... Burn Notice, Monk and Psych... I really thought 'great, now I have another show I might actually DVR.' I only have one show I waste time to DVR but I loved this one enough to search for when the next episode would come out. What was obvious about those who disliked it was that they weren't watching... plenty of incorrect information about the show and children who were spending more time paying attention to their myspace pages than what happens in the show (radio, books, sketch pads and journals exist for this type of inconvenience of your time).

For those who enjoy true comedy and entertainment.... key word... entertainment, watch this show. To USA, I say you need to find a better group of people to screen your possible shows to these days, you've done good in the past so I hope you don't throw away a good show because a few small and obviously distracted minds do not like it.

Make it a series!
miles2go
"Prankster" & pals need to lighten up. OF COURSE the premise of "To Love & Die" isn't believable; it isn't meant to be. It's just good, solid, escapist entertainment with GREAT possibilities for kooky, oddball comedy ala "Ally McBeal" & "Boston Legal." Just in case "Prankster" is under any delusion, the so-called "Reality TV" shows aren't even a little believable either; assuming one has finally left grade school behind, that is. At least "To Love & Die" isn't making any pretense that the show is intended to be serious. I thought Shiri Appleby was refreshing and VERY cute. Tim Matheson's dry humor always makes him a winner and Frances Fisher is entirely believable as a meddling mother. Provided the show's writing can hold up, I think "To Live & Die" will be another link in the blockbuster chain that USA has begun to forge with "Burn Notice" & "The Starter Wife." Hopefully, USA will give Appleby, Matheson & Fisher a real chance to prove themselves as a series. The plot possibilities for this show seem endless.

If Network Television continues its seemingly inexorable trek toward their Reality TV crapola, I'll be turning to cable TV channels like USA for almost all my TV entertainment needs.

I truly enjoyed the two hours of "To Love and Die." I did not expect it to be serious. I allow all kinds of "not possible" stuff when all I want is entertainment. At the late hrs or wee hrs when I am tired, I just want to be amused. Of course I did not believe she could swing into her mom's home or outsmart her dad. Finding him, well that is not so hard. I am sorry you were not amused, but I was and am looking forward to more. Have a great 2009 smile.gif

Well this new show sure has a lot of emotional responses.

I really liked it just because it was so lighthearted. I ordinarily watch all the CSIs, Law and Order, Burn Notice, House, Monk, Psych and NCIS. "To Live & Die" was really fun to add to my viewing.

The movie left it open to have the Series start and I went online to look for it, but it is not scheduled in my area as far as I can tell.
This show was so fun that I registered on this site and joined the forums just to find out about it. This is a first for me.

I hope the producers will see that there are a lot of fans for this show and give it a try. At my house there will be the same 8 people watching the series as there were watching the movie.

As far as the advertising of the movie, I only saw it advertised 3 times before it was on and those were only in the last 3 days before the movie aired....to think I could have missed another fun show because it was so little advertised.

On another note about advertising...Had I known Firefly was even on the air I would have certainly watched it then, along with the other 8 members of my household, but unfortunately I never heard about it until the movie Serenity came out....sigh...I keep missing great shows.

Along with the rest of the crowd that really likes "To Love & Die" I heartily support it and look forward to seeing the series aired.

Crossing fingers that USA sees that this show really has good potential if they just listen!!
leaf_in_thewind
It was cute, very predictable, but cute. Unrealistic, yes, but entertaining all the same. It's TV I don't expect much from it anymore. In fact, I'm thinking of cancelling my satellite service. It's just not worth $70 a month anymore.

Did anyone notice the resemblance to the Stephanie Plum novel series by Janet Evanovich? Stephanie Plum is a bounty hunter with "bad luck" where everything just kinda works out in the end for her. Sorta similar to this air-head assassin, but a lot more entertaining. Though books always are for me.

dry.gif Wow, everyone try to chill, this is just a place to give your thoughts, but no need to put someone down. I thought this was a cute show and it's nice for a change, to watch something with cute humor. I don't spend my life in front of a t.v. but I have the right mind to know this show isan't based on truth, it's just for fun. I like NCIS too, but that's not based on facts, so in all you don't always want to watch a program based on all truth because its not always an intresting sometimes. So, I agree with everyone who liked this show and want to see it again. Just a thought though to everyone, there is no point in going over board and putting others down just because you don't like a t.v. show, you must realize it makes you sound child like, and I believe that some of the nay sayers are children in reality so whomever did or didn't like this show, don't let the negativity get to you, their pictures say it all, they look like junior high kids. Not to say they are stupid but their opions are usaully diffrent than a mature adult. Thanks for your time!

I don't know. He might be stupid or likes complaining. I honestly don't care if he complaines because I'm not paying any attention to him. No offense.

I pretty much liked it. It has it's flawes but every show that just starts out has them. I think if they could calm Hildy down a little she can get a little annoying but I think they will. I hope they keep this show and give it a season and see how it develops. The mom makes me laugh because I have a friend who's mother is like her and thinks she should be the only person her daughters look to and to do exactly what she says.

I liked it and no it is not at all real but it was lighthearted and I think in time they will give us a little dark edge.
kelli123
I agree. I think it's a great idea for a show. I would really like to see how they develop these characters. And would really like to see this become a series.
Pianoman54
"To Love And Die" was an enjoyable and quirky "dark comedy" with a good cast, that would probably do very well as a series. Look at "Dexter", "Monk", "Burn Notice", and other unusual shows, and you'll see that people these days are open to some unusual creative stories, and ready for a little change from the "same old" tired story lines dealing with cops, doctors, lawyers, unrealistic tinseltown family dramas, and much more schmaltz. Just a suggestion, but I would run "To Love And Die" as a series for about 6 episodes, and see how it does. I think USA could have another possible "hit" here! (no pun intended)

I agree. I thought this movie was a lot of fun and I wanted to see more. I was so excited when I read that it was originally supposed to be a tv show and I hope that USA decides to pick up for at least a few more episodes. I would watch it faithfully. biggrin.gif

To Love & Die is brilliant !!

This must be the start of another great series by USA.

Shiri Appleby is wonderful as well as the other cast members
as they gel so well for a pilot.

The story line is smart and funny and witty and I love
the Technical as well ie: the gadgets and weapons.

I could watch this every week as well as I will be watching the return of Burn Notice.

The USA team ...... you are on point.

Pure entertainment here folks that is what it's all about, not some stupid reality show.

gwrl25
I disagree with you.
I have been looking everywhere even DVD sites to try and find more of this show.
I think it would be a great addition to USAs lineup, and would watch it in just about any time slot.
ginawelsh
I so loved this show. After I watched it I was looking forward to watching it the following week; because the way it was advertised it looked like it was going to be a new series!!!!

Where is it now!!!!!!!!!
AlysLuv
I loved To Love and Die also. Thought Shiri was great! Sad to see it was only a movie and I recently heard she was starting a series on the CW called Light Yrs. where she will play a 16yr olds long lost mother...which will be interesting. But do not quote me on any of that, not sure if it is even final or anything, but sad that this probably will not continue as a series on USA.

I liked the show as well. This particular forum posting is unnecessarily harsh.<This part is mostly for the haters>I'll admit there is an aire of unbelievability to it, but that goes for a heaping grand sum of all shows airing. This show was cute and had potential. It isn't world class espionage, but it was light, funny, and not to intellectual. The majority of shows I enjoy tend to be of the brainier class but I didn't mind the simpleness of the story plot. I have lost faith in TV due to the idiotic things that tend keep gracing my TV screen, but this was a happy compromise for me. It wasn't the most thought provoking show but it wasn't meant to be and due the minimal effort to advertise, they didn't give any reason to believe it to be anything else but cute. I, too, came to the site to see when it was to be airing as a series only to see that no matter how much I try to give TV a chance it seems that it wasn't' meant for me. This series wasn't even given a chance and it looks as if I will have to do without the series because it appears that they have just about removed evidence that this even existed on the network. I'll just go back to books full time because it seems that good books tend to turn into movies and shows which are now getting their due on cable and on big screen, so now I am just going to beat the curve by picking up a new book instead of turning on the TV.
ILYOLIVIA
This show is D2M now. Too bad.
