I'm watching 'Inside Job' that came on at 11:00 Monday 12-15-08. And every time someone uses the 'F-word' it's deleted. I find it annoying. It not like we don't know what said and it takes away from the Director's art. If the makers of the movie didn't want to use the 'F-word' they wouldn't have used it. It's past midnight on a school night it's safe to assume that very few kids will be watching. I find it insulting for a network to assume I as an adult can't handle a movie as the Director meant for it to be viewed
I disagree with you. I highly doubt that the network thinks "you can't handle" hearing the word. I am a new mother and my child is 21 mos old. She is currently repeating everything she hears. So when she wakes up past midnight and I am watching a program that allows swearing I have to stop viewing it so that my child will not repeat it. As she grows older, I don't want to make her go to bed early or not watch TV past midnight just b/c viewers like you think it is ok to swear past a certain time of the day. I personally don't swear, but as an adult I am capable of watching shows that allow swearing. I would prefer however that all swearing be censored. Swearing is not an art, it is a choice of words and sometimes the choice of words reveal the kind of character being depicted. It's like you said, you know what they said anyway and you are still able to identify with the characters personality without actually having to hear the word repeated a dozen times or more. I was very offended yesterday while watching "The Break-Up" because they kept censoring the word "crap" but not "_od damn" It appals me that taking God's name in vain didn't compare to crap.
