Full Version: Why do some think Books are inferior?

It seems some people are still responding negatively to the 4400 books. I say CBS was under no obligation to give us anything. USA Network took us thru 4 Season and just when we were about to get the pay-off, they pull the rug out. I haven't watched them since.
Now to date CBS has only order 4 books, 2 tie-in which are out and 2 Season fives which are upcoming. I personally don't want it to end so I hope everyone will buy them even if they don't like reading. Consider it our latest campaign to get the "4400" back.

I to was anti-reading all thru my early life and school. I was totally TV and movies and one day I notice they started putting out books on one of my favorite shows at that time and decided to give it a try. I'm a life long day-dreamer and I found that I could actually see the characters play out the story I was reading. It was my eureka moment. After a while I branched out into non TV tie-in books and lost control. I use to average about 10 to 20 books a month, almost killed myself. So much more can happen in books than TV/Movies. There is no limit. And once you develope the skill of visualizing the story you're reading you will love it. But these 4400 books should make it easy because we all have 4 seasons of visual input to put with these books.
So everyone just be thankful and buy them as stocking stuffers or have them read to you, etc.

Bottom-line is this is what we have and it may be all we get too. Poor sales will make sure of that.

P.S. I miss the very talented male and female (eye-candy) cast too and I want them back, but we need to be realistic.

Books are pretty superior when you compare them with nothing. I'd certainly prefer for someone to see the TV series through to its conclusion, but at least we can still see where the story was going this way. (Incidentally, my family and I don't watch USA anymore either. smile.gif)

First of all, I have to say that I think that usually books are much more "immersive" than most TV shows and even movies !

I must also admit that the way The 4400 ended was so frustrating that people can not accept the show disappeared ! I am still part of those ! A book is good but will it be translated enough to be avalaible to all worldwide TV viewers ?

Here is a small map of the most active countries that visited savethe4400.blogspot.com since august 2008... Can foreign fans hope to read the books in their own language ?

I asked Greg Cox about that and this is his reply;

To be honest, I have no idea. Depends on what foreign publishers want to pay to have it translated. That's up to them, not me. Most of the time I don't even know if there's a foreign edition until I stumble onto one by accident.

On the bright side, some of my books have been translated into German, Italian, and French. Maybe that will happen with the 4400 books, too.

So maybe 4400 fans in the various countries can contact their publishers with enough interest to request the books. And it doesn't have to be every country because many share the same language. But how to go about this I don't know.
