Walt uncovered the shell corporation used by Janus as a front, a fake company used to pay for Herb's keep. Walt asked questions that he knew was getting him noticed. He also knew what kind of people he was dealing with and that his life was in danger. We never found out if the chapel was truly and accident or a a planned fire to kill Purdy. Walt's death was truly an accident because he was trying to save Purdy. The computer game wound up to be nothing but a run around. You never really found out anything but what the show revealed about the fake company. Another season could've added more to it, but it wasn't meant to be.
Thanks for your detailed reply, Kaaldred!
Well, after following all the highly elaborated, tricky clues, you feel a bit disappointed when it appears clear that the game has no end.
Surely Johnny Visions foresaw that, after realising that we'd never be able to solve the murder mystery, we'll yearn to smash Walt's laptop to pieces. That's why you can finally grab the gun in the drawer at the end!
