Shoot me now! I am starting a thread. tongue.gif I am an animal lover and I know a few of you are too. And as I mopped my concrete floors I thought about starting this topic, first for selfish reasons, then I thought maybe others may benifit too. First let me start my story from the beginning, which will be hard cause my computer is lagging bad.

As most of you know I had Tiger for 10 yrs before we lost him during the hurricane evacuation this year. When we got shaggy Tiger was 6yrs old Male, neutered, front claws declawed, we had another cat female younger spaded who hated shaggy, shaggy was just a puppy about 4m old 3-4 lbs, tiny little thing. But kara was scared of him and would hiss and claw him if he came around, shaggy would chase the cats and even though they were bigger the cats would run. Shaggy thought it was fun, cats weren't amuzed. Tiger would at times stalk and attack, but as he got older he just avoided him, Kara ran away. Shaggy learned to go out through the doggy and potty in the back yard. Tiger also. But after awhile my son and his girlfriend movied in with their yorkie, who was paper trained. Well accidents started to happen. Their dog started peeing on the edge of the furniture, leaving stains on the carpet. Then they found another dog, another yorkie, well he wasn't trained either, well after about 6m they moved out, well the peeing continued. I figured shaggy was marking over their scent. Then just continued the habit. Well two years later,.... He is still doing it. My hubby only caught him once. I think he is doing it while we are asleep, maybe he doesn't want to go out at night? I clean the area with straight Pine oil. Anyone know what we can do to break this bad habit? Hubby afraid to get new furniture till we do. He still goes outside when we are watching, so I think he knows better.

Thanks
Jryan

Hey, I just put my pet stuff in Off Topic...hope that was okay...since they are my "kids" I figured it was okay to talk about them there.

As for the marking territory thing...they make this stuff to clean the areas. It has enzymes that actually eat the urine or other biological substances. We had a neighbors cat spray (pee) into our living room, through the sliding glass door screen. We got some of that cleaner at a local hardware, they also rent steam cleaners. You shake it a bit, then just pour it onto the infected area. It soaks through carpets, pads and into subfloors. It should soak into grout as well, if you have a tiled or lino flooring. We have not had any issues since we used that. It doesn't smell anymore and my animals ignore it. Good luck!

Thanks I got some NO GO, after The cleaned area drys I will try that, but it says to reapply in a week, Lets hope I remember. Right now all I have is Cement floors, until all repairs are done, but for sure, I am not putting back carpet. Going with Stone or Ceramic tile.

Same here about the cats, we want another cat sooo bad, since we lost tiger, but daughter has bad alergies, when I was looking at pet shelters online, my hubby said go look at that D'onofrio guy, lol. Never thought I would here him say that! lol But he doesn't want another cat. So I have to settle for the ones in my signature. Thanks for sharing the pics. I need to take some updated ones of shaggy. Last night hubby had supper meeting, and brought home some left over steak, Shaggy could smell it through the foil, and he barked and jumped till hubby gave him some, I Never saw him so exited, I think now he is part bloodhound, lol.

I love this thread, Jryan! It's great to see pics of everyones' critters. I posted this over on the "post your pictures thread", but it seemed appropriate here, too.

This is our little ferocious jungle cat, Kitty Girl (yes...so original!). She's only about 9 lbs and about 7-8 years old, we think, and the vet says she's a Maine Coon mix. We found her as a stray. She loves my husband, tolerates me, and hates every other living thing, but we love her nonetheless. She is actually very useful when solicitors come to the door. She turns into a snarling beast and chases most of them away. It's quite funny to watch the UPS guy toss me a package and hurry away! She even chased away a cat sitter we tried to hire to take care of her when we went on a trip. It reminded me of the scenes in "Addams Family" when visitors high-tailed it out the door after seeing their pet "Kitty", the lion. Luckily we have nice neighbors with hip-waders and leather gloves that will feed her while we're away.

I also learned on the other thread that our Kitty Girl has a stiking resemblance to KimberlyT's kitty. Such a small kitty-world!

Does she love to wag her tail in your face? My princess had a tail like that, and she love to do that to me when I wasn't giving her enough attention, she would lie by me and hit me in the face with her fluffy tail, lol.

Just as a reminder, the last picture Tiger and Shaggy took together, you can feel the love they had for each other, lol. Tiger is greatly missed

Yes, she sashays up to my husband and wacks him with her tail. It's quite expressive. She'll also hunker down with her tail up in the air, "giving us the butt", to get her back scratched. She's a piece of work!

Your Tiger looks like such a sweet kitty...I know you miss him terribly.

only a few of you know that our male and

is retiring, and we are going to get another pug!!!

Great thread!

I've had my share of pets over the years, mainly cats. First cat was Boots, she was a shorthair tabby (I think, although there was a theory that she was part raccoon - is that even possible?). My mom took her in from one of the neighbours which was right around the time I was born so had her for a long time. She died of age I think when I was 15-16ish. My current cat is Emmy, or as I like to call her, the fuzzball (she's got a LOT of fur!). This one likes to meow very loudly mind you at ungodly hours of the morning, it sounds even louder when everyone's sleeping.

Other then that, I've had a guinea pig, like to get another or a hamster or a rabbit. Had a dog very briefly, he was a sheltie but had to give him away b/c the apartment was too small. We got him from a breeder that's a good friend of the family on my dad's side, his family practically got all their dogs from them (mostly shelties). I wouldn't mind getting a dog but not a large one, my cousin had a Bouvier, talk about huge! And to think it was only a wee one as a puppy O__o. She had to get rid of that one and now she's got a black Lab.

Here's something really cool for animal lovers, I found it last night just randomly surfing the net. It's a web series featuring clips of funny and cute pets.

Pugs are so cute! We had neighbors in FL that had two, and they would run over to us if we were out in the yard and want lots of pats. So sweet!

A guinea pig was my very first pet when I moved out on my own, then I adopted a French Angora rabbit and then a Blanc de Hotot rabbit (all white with black Cleopatra eyeliner). I always loved how the piggy squeaked at me when I opened the frig (he wanted carrots!), and both bunnies were very sweet, well behaved indoor bunnies. They did chew on things, though. One ate all the tassels off of a wool rug, and the other liked to eat the baseboards.

I'd love to get another rabbit, but I don't think my cat would like it...or worse, she might like it too much. So, since we seem to have to be a one-pet household, we sponsor a leopard at The Wild Animal Sanctuary near Denver, CO. They were featured on Animal Planet in a story about Eddie, the leopard. I'm going to Denver on a business trip in a few weeks, so I'm excited to go visit "my" leopard!

Thanks for the link, LM!

Thanks for this thread! I just had to share the love. Last year I thought it would be fun to make an old fashioned popcorn & cranberry chain for my Christmas tree. My cat, Sasha, thought so, too...

Sasha is beautiful!

Our kitty likes to "help" make the bed. She can't wait for me to put the clean sheets on. Before I can even get them straightened out, she's rolling all over them providing a nice new, evenly distributed layer of cat fur.

Sasha says thank you. And we both think your Kitty is gorgeous, too. And quite the watch-cat. Poor UPS dude laugh.gif
What is it with cats and laundry? Mine's asleep under the freshly-done blankets at the moment but I managed to catch this before she went underneath

Shaggy thinks he is my other husband, after I make the bed, he digs himself a spot on my hubby's side of the bed and get's comfortable actually using his head to turn back the covers, when hubby comes to bed, he looks at hubby like "You expect me to move?" lol

Now that's a riot!

I can appreciate how your husband feels. My husband usually turns in earlier than I do and every night I ask Kitty Girl to save me a spot...then I have to scoot her out of the way when I go bed. Where do these critters get such ideas?

My guinea pig did that too whenever I opened the fridge. She also did this thing where she would start digging in her cage sending wood chips flying everywhere. The funny thing was was that the cage was on a cabnet beside the couch in the living room, so whoever was sitting there had to watch out biggrin.gif

What a wonderful topic......here's a pic of our late great dog Brittany, with #1 Son (it was taken in the summer of 2002):

Hubby got her at our local SPCA, when we were married for about 4-5 months and on Thursday it will be a year since she died at the ripe age of 13. She was a great dog, gentle with the boys and quite friendly.
One habit she did have---she loved mint-scented or mint-flavored things. My mom has a raging case of rheumatoid arthritis, and applies Ben-Gay like some people apply body lotions...lol. Anyway, every time Brittany was around my mom, she'd start licking my mom's hands b/c of the Ben-Gay! She also liked to lick other dogs' ears, guess it was her way of greeting! tongue.gif
We were told Brittany was a border collie/black lab mix, but with the way her back legs looked, I think she had some setter in her as well. And hubby had seen a dog at a customer's home a few years ago that could've been a twin for our dog---an Australian sheep dog.
Whatever she was, Brittany was a great dog for us--I hope she's having fun chasing the butterflies on Avalon now!

She such a beautiful dog. Loved the story, I remember my grandma had a cocker spaniel named Murphy. One time near Xmas, her and my mom were making shortbread cookies (I was just a little thing then). Now they had about 2 pounds of butter on the kitchen table softening and they were extremely careful to push all the chairs in so the dogs couldn't get up. They left the room for a bit and when they came back, they found Murphy licking his mouth, the butter all gone and none of the chairs were disturbed.

What a lovely pup Brittany was! I bet she was smart, too, since that's a quality of both border collies and labs.

Oh, boy...I bet Murphy had quite a tummy ache after that. We had a beagle when I was growing up. One summer evening, I was helping my dad bring things in from the patio after grilling and I dropped almost a whole stick of butter on the ground. Fully believing in the 5-second rule, the beagle inhaled it and left nothing but a greasy smudge on the patio. That was one stinky hound dog the rest of the night! blink.gif

Day #2 still waiting, seems it takes them awhile to go through the applications, we went and visit the kitten, Aimee is so anxious, and doesn't understand they want to make sure they get a good home. While we were there, they were argueing with a man who had left his dog home with no food and water for a few days. The helped her better understand why they are so careful. Also looked at other animals, saw some pitbulls that aren't adoptable and will be put to sleep, so sad.If I ever win the lottery, I want to build a non killing shelter for all animals. They all look like they know what will happen if they are not chosen and jump up and down when people walk in. I could never work there, I would have to take them all home.

You have a kind servant's heart for the critters! I hope the shelter approves your application soon!

Welcome Kitty Mina!!!! What a little cutie she is. And lucky too. Congrats on the newest addition to your family Jryan. Insurance people and contractors might be driving you nuts, but at the end of the day this little one is sure to put a smile on your face. smile.gif

Oh, Jryan...what a little beauty Mina is! She looks similar to my kitty, but with short hair. I'm thrilled for you guys! So now Shaggy has to teach her the ropes...or will she teach him a kitty thing or two? smile.gif . You know...she looks like she will be a big LOCI fan, too. She's got that "I want to investigate something" look in her eyes!

Enjoy your new baby!

AS you can see in shaggy's pic, we still have no floors, he is adjusting to her, he follows her around like she is going to steal something, smelling her butt, lol. When she runs he chases her. When she is closed off in Aimee's room he waits at the door, but he seems to be excited. He wags his tail and doesn't bark at her, but seemed scared of him at first now she just ignores him.

Congratulations, JRyan. She's a cutie.

Hi,
Hey there's no need for a gun LOL

Love this thread, great idea

I have a 12 year old jack russell terrier, which is a complete, "Nut Job' kinda of like they calll our bobby sometime, which he's not
He so hyper, but would not trade him for anything, right now he's eating a vanilla wafer. When I bring home a shopping bag he looks right into it, like where's the "Goodies"

Well have a good holiday.
and love the animal pics biggrin.gif

I thought I'd jump in and share the pics of my babies.

First is Mieux Mieux, the sweetest cat ever who died a couple of months ago. I know most of you have already seen this photo, but I couldn't post pictures of my pet family and not include her.

This is Mandy, my golden retriever. She's 10 years old now, but I still remember her when she was only 10 pounds.

Last, but certainly not least (just ask her) is Gracie Lou. She's the rescue dog I fostered, then couldn't let go. She's about 2 years old and has one lucky blue eye.

You think your dog's a nut job? My cat loves to lick the juice that olives leave behind in the bowl as well as lick the salt off of potato chips! laugh.gif tongue.gif

Cute! biggrin.gif

Did Murphy do OK?? Amazing what animals can do.... :-)

Lady_M, I think your cat and Gorenobsessed's dog need to get together for a snack session!

pfc--your animal pics are beautiful.

Shouldn't this be a topic in the "off topic" thread?

Lovin' the pet pictures! I'll have to dig through my files and find some of mine. None of ours are still alive, except in our hearts.
