This is a great thread, love the pics of the pets!! A long time ago I had 2 dogs, brother & sister, that were German Shepard, Queensland Healer, Boxer mix, but they looked like Shepards. I named them Bonnie & Clyde because they would get into trouble alot lol. They were great dogs. I built a fence so that I wouldn't have to keep them chained up but Clyde had other thoughts. After I finished the fence and let them off their chains, he ran around the house and as he came back around the front, he jumped right over the 5ft fence with Bonnie close behind him lol. Bonnie loved when I turned on the hose for them and put the small metal sprinkler on. She would lay over it so that Clyde couldn't get any water lol and then they would play keep away with the hose lol I do miss them as they are both gone now.

Our dogs now are Beagles, Bayley, female will be 4 in Feb, Gallup male will be 2 in July. She is all girl, high pitch voice and prissy at times. He is all boy, very rough and tumble with a very deep voice. She "sat pretty" all by herself, it was the cutiest thing I had ever seen. Gallup because he is all legs took some time for him to be able to do that and when he does he looks like a little butler lol. He reminds us of Odie from Garfield, just a happy go lucky dog. He loves making Bayley chase him so that he can run from her, so gets frustrated and will bark at him.

Gallup in front, Bayley in back. Gallup soon after we got him.

Your beagles are just precious, SweetCIFan! I grew up with beagles and I just love them. They are so melodious! tongue.gif When we retire from the military and quit moving around, I'm planning to go to a beagle rescue and give a rescue beagle a forever home. The other part of my plan is to adopt a bloodhound, then I want to train them both to do search and rescue. Gotta give those good noses a job to do!

My poor baby's eye, Its soft, it's a discoloration of the skin, with nohair.

Mina at 3months, is a little hell cat, she jumps and scratches everyone shaggy lets her know when he has had enough, we have to separate them sometimes, but she just likes to play, can't get her declawed till 6 months. Yesterday she got outside and discovered grass for the first time, took us forever to trap her and get her in, lol. So see this sofa, we aren't getting our new sofas until she is declawed. I have more scratches and bites on my hand, than from when poor tiger (RIP) panic during the hurricane and bit and clawed me.

I hope Shaggy's blemish is just a new beauty mark and nothing to worry about!

There are some good books in the bookstore/library about cat behavior and getting her to stop biting and scratching (she's a cutie, by the way!!). The one thing we do when our kitty turns into "ferocious jungle cat" while playing, is just turn around, walk away, and ignore her for a while. It took some time, but she finally associated her rough tactics with the end of play time (that's no fun!), so she became more gentle. When she's really mad, though, that's another story! unsure.gif

I am so worried Vet can't see us till Wed. been looking o internet, might be Melanoma (Canine) which is mostly malignant, if I lose my baby, I don't know what I will do. Now I have two days to worry about it.

Our oldest doxie, Pooch, has bumps and spots all over her. The vet said if I live to be her age I would have bumps and spots too. He said she isn't sick, she is just fine...only getting old...she is 17...going to be 18 in March. Our little dog occassionally gets little marks like yours has(usually on her face or belly). These are actually soft too and if you rub them they will rub off, fur and all and then bleed a bit like a scab...it is from her alleriges. I found a new shamppo and lotion treatment that helps way better than the expensive meds they had her on that didn't help her at all.

We taught our cat "no bites", cause she is a nibbler. She sometimes kind of licks your arm or hand and then gives it a little bit. She can hurt you though because she is a very large cat. So we taught her that "no bites" as a kitten. Trust me, it will only get worse as she gets bigger. The walk away when she gets "wild" works very well too to teach them that...or a light tap on the nose. I also, when she was a kitten and bit me hard, would poke her into her mouth with the finger she was biting, pushing her tongue down. Not to hurt, ever, but she sometimes gagged a bit, but she learned not to bite us.

Here is a new Poochie picture. Sleeping in the sun from the sliding glass door, in our old recliner.

Nice pet pix. Still haven't gotten another pet. Used to not having one underfoot; maybe we wont get another one. If we can get one that's okay with staying outside all the time, that would be best.

SweetCIFan
Thanks all for the comments & yes that is one of my fav pics of them and they love having the back yard fenced in now. They take doggy patrol very seriously too to the point where you would think there is more than 2 of them lol. I just love them. They both love to "smell the sun" in one of our bedrooms that is still empty sort of, the sun comes in in the morning and I will open that door and they both will go in there and smell the carpet where the sun is shinning before laying down to take a nap and they will "follow" the sun till it is gone. Never seen a dog do that before. Bayley also loves to lay on her back and when she especially enjoyed her meal, she just rolls around snorting lol.

My Rigs a shih tzu does his neighborhood watch from the livingroom window. He barks at everyone who has the nerve to walk by his house. It is about his only annoying habit. That is cute about your dogs smelling the sunshine. Being so low to the ground it surprises me but he loves the snow. He likes to sniff it, eat it, stick his face in it.

hee hee that reminds me of my gran's old dog. Topsy the papillion, who used to sit on the top of her chair and watch EVERYONE - also a good lookout for the ice cream van. She loved an ice cream cone!

Well doc is pretty sure it isn't cancer or ringworm, but won't totally rule it out. He is pretty sure it might be an infected scratch, since Mina has been known to scratch him in the face, and we know cats claws carry germs from the litter box. So he is on antibotics and anti-inflamatories and compresses to the eye. Doc says that is the worse place for anything to occur that would need surgery, so lets hope this is all it is.

Oh Yea Gallup loves snow!! He eats just about anything he can get in to his mouth lol. We caught him eating small rocks, sticks, walnuts, paper, he even thinks ice cubes are a treat and loves them no matter how cold it is outside. Oh course some things his tummy can't handle and then he pukes them up on my carpet, which is not fun.

There was a two week span where Scotty kept eating random dead animal carcasses that he would find. They would make him very sick and he would throw up all over his crate. The last thing that he ate was a bird. When it cam back up, it was very identifiable.

Thank you. I typically don't dress him up, but I though that since it was a special occasion (and since the sweater cost about $20 and I promised hubby that he would wear it) that I would. I really like the sweater, and I kind of wish that I had one like it (I typically would not spend that much $$, but I'm hoping that we can get 'family' pictures done).

I'm glad that I put it on him, too. It ended up getting fairly cold outside, and we really weren't able to take him into the house that we were at. So we left him in the car. He did well though. Airedales are typically house dogs because they like people, but they are very resillent in cold temps, too.

Hi everyone. I've been busy and away from the computer for a bit, but I thought I'd share some of the pictures I took last week when we had our "big snow". Okay, it was just a couple of inches, but in North Carolina, any snow is "big snow". I've turned into a winter weather wimp. But I'm OK with that. LOL

We never get enough snow here in North Carolina for "the snowplough", but Mandy used to do that when she was a youngster and we lived in the Catskills in New York. She also would go splashing in the creek behind our property in the dead of winter. She come back wearing a halo of icicles like those swimming monkeys on Mt Fuji.

Cute! Wonder if it's his or just some cat they brought in for the photo shoot.

Speaking of which, there's a scene in Feeling Minnesota where his character gets out of the car to visit Red (I think that's his name) and there's a cat blocking his way so he looks at it and tells it "Will ya move?" Hilarious! biggrin.gif

We had a friend once who lived on a lake. Their neighbors had an airedale. That dog would stand belly deep in the lake, watching the fish swim in its shadow. It was like a statue, but just its tail moved. They are beautiful dogs.

On Monday I took kitty Tasha to the vet since it looked like she had a cold, and she also had a wound on her foot that wasn't getting better. They said she had a bad upper respiratory infection and that her kidneys were getting ready to shut down. They put her on IV fluids and kept her overnight. Since I couldn't afford to have them rerun all her bloodwork the next day, they said we'd just have to hope for the best.

I brought her home Tuesday evening and she seemed tired and wobbly on her feet, but I figured that was just due to the medicine they had given her. I put her next to the food and she didn't want to eat. I put her in the litter box but she didn't need to go. The wound on her foot wasn't a cut like I had thought but an abscess which had ruptured, and it had finally scabbed over during her stay in the hospital. Her face wasn't snotty anymore either. I gave her a little petting and love, but mostly I left her alone to sleep off the meds.

I fell asleep early due to the stress of the past couple of days, then woke up and moved from the couch to my bed. The next morning I got up at 6 and found her laying in the front corner of the living room by the windows where I had last seen her the night before. I hoped she was OK, since she sleeps really soundly sometimes, taking a few pokes to wake up. This time she didn't wake up to give me a look for disturbing her sleep. She had died sometime during the night.

I'm so very happy that she was able to come home before she went. I don't know what ultimately took her life, but I'm sure she wasn't hurting or I'd have heard her squeeking. She never really meowed properly unless she was being very insistent. She was a very sweet and loving cat. I'll miss her trying to knead my hair thereby clawing my scalp, sitting on the back of my chair, seeing her when I come home, laying on my chest when I was watching TV. I found a place to bury her outside so her body can return to the earth.

Love you baby kitty girl, vampire kitty, velvet cat, snotface, attention seeker, velcro kitty, smelly face, needle claws, pretty kitty, Seekrit Cat.

Oh, Janx, I'm so sorry about the passing of your beautiful baby girl! She was very blessed to have such a good kitty mama. I hope all your wonderful memories of her will comfort you.

That's so sad to hear, Janx. It sounded like she'd been in a lot of pain before she died, at least there's no more pain wherever she is now.

It reminds me of when my first cat Boots died, I didn't find out until I got home from school that day, she apparently died during the night and was discovered by my parents, my mom told my dad to take her to the vet so they can take care of the remains. It was quite sad but even more sad for mom cause' she was her cat mostly.

Hi Everyone!

For those of you who are interested in animal welfare and conservation, this is an organization that I visited after seeing a documentary about them on Animal Planet, featuring “Eddy” the leopard. I was so inspired by their mission and how well they care for the animals they provide homes for, I’ve been sponsoring several of their leopards for two years now – “Sam”, a black leopard, and “Chloe and Jake”, both spotted leopards. Here is a little info from their website:

The Wild Animal Sanctuary is located just outside Denver, CO and is a state and federally licensed zoological facility. They are a 501©3 non-profit organization (tax deductible) and operate with donations and the help of very dedicated people who volunteer their time.

They have been rescuing exotic wildlife and endangered species since 1980, and are currently provide a home for more than 200 Lions, Tigers, Bears, Jaguars, Leopards, Mountain Lions, Lynx, Bobcats, Servals, Wolves, and other wildlife.

The residents of the Wild Animal Sanctuary were abandoned, abused, illegally kept, or came from other terrible situations. The majority of the animals were so-called “pets”, and were confiscated by law enforcement officials - usually within the first six months of their lives. The sanctuary also provides permanent refuge to surplus animals from zoos and other wildlife facilities, where they face euthanasia due to over-breeding.

The Wild Animal Sanctuary has one of the most contemporary facilities in the nation - with multiple habitats ranging from 5-acres to 25-acres. These amazing habitats offer unprecedented freedom, and natural living spaces for the animals they rescue.

For more information, you can go to their website at:

Wild Animal Sanctuary

Here are links to photos of “my” adoptive leopards. I got to see them playing on my last visit. So sweet!

Hi again...I just wanted to post the info above from the "OT" thread here, too, for all the animal lovers on this site. smile.gif

Another great organization that I support by buying things from their shop is the Snow Leopard Trust. Snow Leopards, like the one in the photo, are native to the high mountain areas in Asia, and are critically endangered. The trust sponsors research, promotes conservation of snow leopard habitats, and works with the local communities to educate them and help their economy so that they won't be tempted to kill the leopards for monetary reasons. Here is the link if anyone is interested. If you sign up for their e-newsletter (which is free) $2 will be donated to the fund from a private charity.

Just thought I'd post this over on this thread since he has a pet in his lap. biggrin.gif

Someone on the forum posted it on another thread and I saved it, but I can't remember who and what thread (sorry sad.gif ). So, thanks whoever it was for finding this one...you get the excellent VDO photo-finding credit. smile.gif

On one talk show he mentioned he had a cat. On Happy Accident he mentioned he had a dog. Wonder if he still has a pet.

My cat is doing something so strange, we have one of those automatic water bottles she keeps putting her paws in it like she is trying to get something out, just to hear the gurgle sound. She hates a bath, but doesnt mind wet paws, this agravates Shaggy so he barks at her when she does it. I am going to try and get a pic of this it's so funny I should get a video. I need to put a mat under it, cause my floor ends up wet.

My mother's cat has a water obsession. He dips his feet into his water bowl and licks them clean. She had to keep getting a heavier and heavier bowl until she finally found one he wouldn't dump or slide all over the kitchen floor. We think he just likes to wash his feet every now and then. Makes sense to me!

I think she might see the plug of the jug and maybe is trying to reach it. Here are some pictures, Shaggy is barking in the first two and then he finally leaves the house, lol.

That is cute, I find it ironic that cats will get their paws wet yet some will almost claw your eyes out if you even try to give them a bath.

Speaking of cats, here's a link that has a pic of a cat sporting a "lion cut". Apparently the groomer misheard the owner (they really wanted a line cut). Poor kitty!
