In the episode where Natalie rents Monk an office and Sharon Lawrence hires him to solve her fender bender, Monk eats a sandwich. Would Monk really eat a sandwich? He doesn't like for his food to touch and when you make a sandwich, the meat and bread touch.

Maybe sandwiches are the exception. People with OCD don't always apply their obsessions to everything. Maybe because a sandwich is a square-ish food, Monk's not that fussed.
He eats pot pie where everything is mixed together. Of course they show an episode of him making it where he's counting out the green peas. Maybe he has rules about the sandwich?
