Full Version: Does Juliet really believe that Shawn is psychic?

I believe Juliet would like to think that Shawn is psychic; but, do you think that Lassiter's disbelief is affecting her? After all, Lassie is her mentor.

I'm rather fond of visual aids, so here is my illustrated opinion:

Of course, Juliet questions about Shawn's 'psychic' abilities; especially when Shawn allowed Gus to walk into a bank that was going to be robbed! Juliet wants to believe, but yeah, she does have those doubts. Lassie may never believe, but Jules will.

She does always seem amazed when Shawn 'psychically' knows something that seems impossible. Like when he knew about the piece of necklace in the toilet in "American Duos", Jules just had that 0.0 expression that said it all.

I think she's one of those people who are open to the idea and are amazed by it ,but will always have that part of them saying it's impossible.

I think Juliet is like most people would be in her situation. She doesn't believe it, but she can't explain it, so she accepts it.

i think she really wants to belive but there is always that little bit of doubt inside her. it's dissolving over time and one day she will fully belive him. i think once she does shawn will tell her the truth. it will take her a lot of time to acept it but she finally will, that is when they with both feel truly happy. i hope this doesn't happen until season 5,6, or 7. 5 and 7 are both some of my lucky numbers!!

It's funny you say that because someone else recently said the same thing, which surprised me because it had never even occurred to me that the chief didn't believe him. What hints have I been missing?

I think The Chief doesn't believe him because she is too grounded in reality. She gives Shawn some obviously disapproving looks, but I think that's because of his demeanor. I get the same looks from my boss, and I make no claims of psychicdom. I think her behavior toward him is more about her not believing that he can even dress himself than that she doubts his psychichood. The impression that I get, however, is that she doesn't really care, so long as Shawn solves the case. That's a pretty good boss, the way I see it.

Of course Juliet knows or at least has a good idea Shawn isn't psychic yet at the same time she can't totally dismiss the possiblity entirely and what really puzzles her is how Shawn comes by the information that he gives to the chief. I think that is the question Juliet really wants to ask Shawn.

IMO

I think that the Chief doubts Shawn is psychic. If u watch "There Might Be Murder", she tells Shawn not to do, "I am sensing". I think she likes the results that Shawn brings, but remember, she told Shawn in the pilot, "If this psychic thing is a scam, we will prosecute. You do know that hindering a police investigation is against the law." This is why Shawn can never tell the truth.

That's true, but if you think about it, Shawn doesn't hinder the police investigations at all. On the contrary, many of the cases would not be solved if he hadn't taken part in them. So I think maybe he will be in serious trouble at first, but then everyone will realize how valuable he is to the department. I can see that happening in the last season.

As Shawn put it when Lassiter asked him what happens when he gets involved in investigations, "Uh, the case gets solved?"

This is a very common misconception about Psychics. It just doesn't work like that. Psychics are not fortunetellers—Psychics don't peer into a crystal ball and tell what's going to happen next. (Those people are called con artists.)

Psychics don't always know everything in advance. Psychics can't always "see" what's going to be the outcome of every situation. Physics can't always tell you what you want to know when you want to know it. All they can do is tell you is what they know when they know it. In other words, true Psychics have to wait for visions to come to them.

So, Shawn letting Gus walk into a bank that's going to be robbed is no reason for Jules to question his physic ability. It's doesn't mean that he isn't psychic; it just means that he did not receive that particular vision. I can't see Jules not knowing how a real psychic ability works. I think she thinks he's psychic.

I think Jules strongly suspects that he is not psychic, but of the three (Lassiter, Jules, Chief), I think she is more willing to accept the idea.

There are some major consequences (not just for Shawn) if any three of them were to prove he wasn't psychic. Shawn may be an excellent detective, he may not have a PI license, and he may not be psychic, but this is nothing compared to how Shawn does solve crimes. He often solves them without following procedures. He breaks into places or enters under false pretenses (without a warrant) in order to find evidence. He then tips the police off on how to find the evidence legally. Since he is an employee of the police force and not just an unlicensed PI, if it were found out how he solves these crimes, I suspect there would be a series of mistrials and non-admissible evidence leading to murderers going free. I'm not a lawyer, but I can't imagine there not being such fallout.

I think that if the Chief could claim she truly believed Shawn was psychic, then the fallout wouldn't be so bad if he was ever found out.

I don't think the Chief knows that Shawn solves crimes in this way, but if she allows herself to break from the psychic story then she may have to accept that Shawn is working outside the law on the government's money. As Shawn said, they can't prove he's not psychic, she knows it can't be proven, and Shawn does solve cases that might otherwise go unsolved. She sticks with the charade because what else can she do? Once she does know for sure that he is finding evidence the way that he sometimes does, then she won't be able to ignore it any longer.

Now Lassie in first season was very anxious to prove Shawn wasn't psychic and definitely has never bought into the charade. However, he's got to know on some level that Shawn is a brilliant detective that allows justice to be served. As more years pass, there is less reason for Lassie to try and prove Shawn is not a psychic. He knows what the possible repercussions would be. I'm sure he'll keep voicing his doubts, whether out of bitterness or just annoyance at Shawn's mocking of the system, but to prove Shawn is psychic is another matter. He would never go out of his way to try and prove it for the reasons listed above. Although, I suspect if proof was found, Lassie would not try to hide it. He is a detective and a to-the-letter officer.

As for Jules, she definitely likes Shawn. I'm not a shipper, but we know this by now. I think she does admire whatever it is Shawn does. I don't think she much cares if Shawn is a psychic or not and I don't think it would change her perception of him. So why not just accept he's psychic and not over think it? (That would be her reasoning in my opinion.)

Sorry, this was very long.
