Casey caught the look in Olivia's eyes. She sighed, it would have to wait. "ok" Casey sighed, She went to grab her coat. When she got back Olivia was already to go. Casey's heart ached to throw her arms around her friend, but was unsure if she should. "Liv...." She started placing her hand lightly on Olivia's shoulder. She looked around searching for the right words. She gripped Olivia's shoulder tighter and pulled her into a hug. Casey squeezed her tightly. "Your my best friend, and if you say you'll tell me later then, I can wait." Casey smiled warmly at her.
The embrace was the last thing Liv was expecting. She expected and simple, "OK"
But what she expected and what she wanted were two different things. The hug was exactly what she wanted.
That was her light. Genuine empathy.
Thank you for this Case, so much. You reminded me i'm still human. No, she wouldn't say that out loud. She couldn't get it out. Olivia could barely speak. As Casey said her sincere words, Olivia smiled.
She understood. She didn't care. She would wait. Olivia broke down.
She cried apologizing for getting Casey's shoulder wet. she fell back into her desk chair, feeling overwhelmed with grief, gratitude, fear, happiness, anger. She couldn't control herself, and she let go. Her tears were waterfalls, cascading down her cheeks.
"Im sorry Casey. I know we were supposed to go drink." She took a deep breath trying to regulate her breathing, but she just kept on crying, "but I __ " she let go again, tears falling, "I just don't know how much longer I can take this."
Olivia looked Casey in the eye, face red and wet, eyes puffy, "I'm sorry."
She broke eye contact, and cradled her head in her hands, her body heaving, Olivia kept crying.
