I'm just wondering does anyone else see what is going on? The new CBS show called The Mentalist premiers tonight using the same concepts from Psych. They even zoom in on stuff he's seeing just like on Psych. It's the same thing just not funny. Why is this allowed?!
This is my favorite show and now they are copying it and making it a serious show on a major network. How will Psych be able to compete with that? Especially when the seasons are so short. It seems that just as I get into the show, there is a season finale out of nowhere. We will never get to see the story develop at this rate. And now this new show may trample all over what I have been enjoying in Psych. Can someone please explain this to me?

This topic has been discussed before! CBS is ripping off Psych! Unfortunately in the TV and Movie business this is common practice and is done all the time. Heaven forbid that someone has to come-up with an original thought for something new.

I read about the show in TV Guide a few months ago. Psych is the best show on USA and has been very successful. I'm sure their "idea" was prompted by Psych's success. However there is a very easy way to prevent this show from competing with Psych. Don't watch. I know I'm not. For major networks like CBS, low ratings result in a show getting cancelled faster than on a channel like USA. I truly believe that Psych is safe and in no danger of being hurt by the "competition". I just want to see it cancelled. No one does it better than James Roday.

Agreed, Psych is an original concept brought to life by the supreme acting abilities of the entire cast. This Mentallist show will not last because it looks half a** un-funny.

Simon Baker is not a comedy guy! Let's hope CBS axes it in the first month!

The reason that CBS is doing this is because they can. They can claim that the concept of a "Fake Psychic Detective" is so broad that they are just augmenting it.

Yes, they use the Shawn-O-vision. Yes, they admit that psychics are fake, that there is no such thing as a real psychic, and they use flashbacks (although not as effectively as "Psych"). However, they can claim that it is all a coincidence. But, if I were Steve Franks, I would sue.

Unfortunately, since it is on a major network, more people will see "The Mentalist" than see "Psych".

Fortunately, "The Mentalist" is not very good and won't last long.

Yeah, if you watch like I did last night; you couldn't wait until it was over!!! Most of the actors on here (with the exception of Simon Baker) were dull!! After watching this, I wonder if I can sue CBS for recapturing the 60 minutes of my life watching this crap! Steve Franks has nothing to worry about. I see this show dying with a month.

I watched the pilot and I was unimpressed. I don't think it's meant to be a comedy, but it was just not interesting to watch at all.

I almost watched the mentalist the night of the premiere but now I am glad that I didn't. It looks stupid anyway. I will stay true to psych and James Roday.

I'm watching the pilot right now. I hate them for copying psych but It's not that bad. At least it gives me mystery I need while psych isn't on. I could't help but laugh while they show him being psychic because all I could do was think about how Shawn would do it. I think I would like this better than law and order none the less.

i just finished watching it and i didn't really like it that much...it was alright. i might watch it again if i have nothing else to do or whatever but...yea haha

I did see the promos for the show, and have posted here about them before.
I was very upset about them blatantly ripping-off PSYCH!!
Psych is a great show, with original writing, and wonderful actors!
I love Psych and have been watching it since day one.
So, on principle, I will NEVER watch that other show!

There was an article in the Minneapolis Sunday paper recently about the new show....
and how is was a copy of Psych, and how Psych's creators should be upset.
I'll try and find the article to post later.
