at 1:55 there's a shot fired (that hits the clock) by phil

later when shawn goes in the safety is still on...

ive been wondering about that. is that some sort of mistake? or does he keep turning the safety on and off, in which case why would he turn the safety off in the first place and when did he have a chance to do so

I noticed that too. I figured he was supposed to have put the safety on . . . maybe he didn't realize it was off, accidentally fired the gun, and then, to keep from accidentally firing again, put the safety on while everyone was screaming and dropping to the floor? If I remember correctly, there's a moment or two there where his back was to the camera and to everyone in the bank.

It made sense they had him fire, though, because everyone in the bank needed to believe he was taking hostages.

I was soooo sure the time on the shot clock was going to matter in the end, and that's why they made the big deal about it, instead of just firing and not seeing where it went.
But more on topic, it's very possible he turned it on safety after he made his display, so he wouldn't hurt anyone.

My mom thought the guard shot, but I told her she was wrong. I just figured that he put the safety on after. A lot of people don't think of these things and just call it a mistake.
