I am a huge fan of the entire cast and think the show is brilliant. However, I worry that Gus's character is not as robust as it could be. Furthermore, I worry that Dulé Hill will start to get irritated that he is not getting enough lines, which would lead to cast tension, etc. (That has been the downfall of many shows of the years). Gus' character is key to the show in many ways. Without Gus, Shawn feels a little too much like an entitled know it all. I hope the writers will do more to properly integrate Gus in the subsequent episodes. I love this show!!
It's funny, in the commentary on the pilot episode (1st season DVDs) one of the producers made a comment about Dulé probably being on of the few actors who wouldn't mind lines being taken away from him because he can do so much more with just a look. (Which I agree is *so* true). The example given at the time was that they took out a line where Dulé told Shawn "I hate you" and instead Dulé just stared down Shawn with that stare of his.
Now, I do think this past season Gus has been less involved (especially in some episodes), but often due to further exploration of Henry or Lassiter or Jules. But in the end, I do think things start to even out--as a few episodes have given Gus a lot of focus (Ghosts for instance). I think, overall, it is the cost of trying to explore all characters further.
