Dear Profressor,

I have scanned your questionnaire and to quote a seasoned poster to this board it seems "legit"

However, may I ask how you foresee such information as being beneficial to society.

Although the premise of Monk is someone who has suffered a tragedy which has unleased various psycholocial tramas in the forms of a multitude of phobias, it is not a medically certified program that focuses not simply on healing the patient but frequently exploits them for laughter for above all else it is a comedy.

Will this essential aspect of the program also figure in your study?

The survey has a lot of questions on whether or not people with issues like OCD (covering many psychological illnesses, etc,) watch Monk, and how the television show affects the viewers perceptions of people with mental illnesses (OCD and other illnesses) in everyday life (family life-etc, work life, community life, etc) and wheter the participant in the survey identifies with Monk/people with OCD.

I wonder if the group ever considered the only other TV show I am familiar with whose main character had a real and not virtual impairment - Sue of F.B.EYE? Though the show only ran for a few years, I feel that even more than Monk, the show's focusing on her abilty to overcome her handicap absent the element of comedy contributed to a much deeper understanding of what barreries both physical and psychological people having this impairment face on a daily basis.

I thought I was pretty familair with most TV shows but that's one I never heard of. When was it on and where did it originate from?

Good luck with your survey. Some comments:
¶ I gave up in the middle. I think it would take more than 15 minutes to complete, maybe forever. Excruciating. Made me mad.
¶ What bothered me is that you had the wrong choices for many of the questions towards the middle (and the end maybe). For example, you asked if I felt more or less compassionate for people with OCD, questions like that. My answer would be "neither." I am generally unmoved by the show in that regard. I look upon the show as a comedy, not realistic at all -- just about how a guy who is a nervous wreck and socially inept (an underdog in a way) can upstage the doubters and solve crimes, sort of like Columbo. I don't think about OCD and mental illness at all. Maybe I should have checked the circle in the middle, but instead I gave up.
¶ nice software for the survay, by the way. I liked the set-up. One suggestion: instead of that bar showing progress in completing it, I'd have preferred seeing the number of questions answered and the number still to complete.
