TheGoddessDivine
I like this idea, tasha!!

I listen to just about anything.......classical to jazz; heavy metal to punk; classic rock to R&B. The only kind of music I don't care for is some of the country music.
Now, I love Johnny Cash, Deana Carter, Garth Brooks, Toby Keith----but it's the stuff like Lucille by Kenny Rogers that just set my teeth on edge. I mean, great song, but what a whiny one---IMO if Lucille left it's b/c of the whining. So shut up, feed the kids, and harvest the crops, right? laugh.gif

As far as favorite songs.....well, it's more like ask me what's my favorite by an artist, and I'll give a list. biggrin.gif

Get out of here! You like him, too? I like one of his songs with June Carter. Time's a Wastin' is all I can recall.

This is a very good idea, tashafallen. I will have to go back to my files and see what my favorite songs are smile.gif

Okay, I lurk a lot but I saw this and I had to respond. I am an older person but I love to rock with the best of them. I am probably one of the oldest ones at a rock concert. As far as music goes, I go for pretty much anything. As long as I can stomp my foot and move my head back and forth, I love it. I prefer the harder rock/alternative/heavy metal stuff but I can listen to anything. I don't care for slow songs at all. There are some that I like but not many.

I have a wide music range too. My favorite band is the cure but I love anything from Garth Brooks to Staind. I'm a huge fan of classic rock/southern rock too. Some of my favorite bands are: The Cure, The Charlatans UK, The Smiths, U2, Charlie Daniels and The Marshall Tucker Band.

i love this song even tho it isnt typical of my musical taste

Radiation song
By sheryl crow
For : all the family i have lost to cancer and my step mom and grandmaw who is battleing it right now

I stare into
Some great abyss
And calculate
The things I'd miss
If I could only
Make some sense of this

And Madam Butterfly
Resounds
Over the mothership
Her lights flashing around
I float above her and
I wonder how
To make it go away
[ Find more Lyrics at www.mp3lyrics.org/fc6i ]
Make it go away

I crawl into my
circumstance
Lay on the table
Begging for another chance
But I was a good girl
I can't understand how to
Make it go away
Make it go away

Sometimes I wonder
Which hurts the worse
The thought of dying
Or reliving every hurt
Was love the illness
And disease the cure
Make it go away

I couldnt be me without you
By billy jo shaver
For my sambo!

While puting some old string on my old guitar
i know just what im gonna do
im gonna sit down and write me a song
and im gonna give it to
i realize now after all these hard times
and lord knows weve had us a few
together forever where ever we are
i couldnt be me without you

chourus
i couldnt be me without you
i couldnt be me without you
together forever where ever we are
i couldnt be me without you

I love to listen to this song when I go to work smile.gif

Wild Boys
by: Duran Duran

The wild boys are calling
on their way back from the fire
in august moon's surrender to
a dust cloud on the rise
wild boys fallen far from glory
reckless and so hungered
on the razors edge you trail
because there's murder by the roadside
in a sore afraid new world

they tried to break us,
looks like they'll try again

wild boys never lose it
wild boys never chose this way
wild boys never close your eyes
wild boys always shine

you got sirens for a welcome
there's bloodstain for your pain
and your telephone been ringing while
you're dancing in the rain
wild boys wonder where is glory
where is all you angels
now the figureheads have fell
and lovers war with arrows over
secrets they could tell

they tried to tame you
looks like they'll try again

wild boys never lose it
wild boys never chose this way
wild boys never close your eyes
wild boys always shine

OMG!!!!! You guys......I LOVE THE CURE AND U2!!! (Sorry for the shouting, I'm just so excited about it).
One of my uncles (my mom's youngest brother) is only 7 years older than me, and he was a huge influence on my musical tastes.....he's a huge fan of The Cure. He also introduced me to U2's music, way back in '83.
I also love The Smiths......we have Sirius at work, and on some days we'll play First Wave station....lots of Cure music played on that one.
This.....is......GREAT!!!

U2
sunday bloody sunday

can't believe the news today
Oh, I can't close my eyes
And make it go away
How long...
How long must we sing this song?
How long? How long...
'cause tonight...we can be as one
Tonight...

Broken bottles under children's feet
Bodies strewn across the dead end street
But I won't heed the battle call
It puts my back up
Puts my back up against the wall

Sunday, Bloody Sunday
Sunday, Bloody Sunday
Sunday, Bloody Sunday

And the battle's just begun
There's many lost, but tell me who has won
The trench is dug within our hearts
And mothers, children, brothers, sisters
Torn apart

Sunday, Bloody Sunday
Sunday, Bloody Sunday

How long...
How long must we sing this song?
How long? How long...
'cause tonight...we can be as one
Tonight...tonight...

Sunday, Bloody Sunday
Sunday, Bloody Sunday

Wipe the tears from your eyes
Wipe your tears away
Oh, wipe your tears away
Oh, wipe your tears away
(Sunday, Bloody Sunday)
Oh, wipe your blood shot eyes
(Sunday, Bloody Sunday)

Sunday, Bloody Sunday (Sunday, Bloody Sunday)
Sunday, Bloody Sunday (Sunday, Bloody Sunday)

And it's true we are immune
When fact is fiction and TV reality
And today the millions cry
We eat and drink while tomorrow they die

(Sunday, Bloody Sunday)

The real battle just begun
To claim the victory Jesus won
On...

Sunday Bloody Sunday
Sunday Bloody Sunday...

I also like a lot of different kinds of music. Growing up in the '70s my favorite band was the J. Geils band(once I got over my Shaun Cassidy and Bay City Rollers faze). Zepplin, Aerosmith, Bob Seger, The Who, The Cars, ...classic rock kind of girl I guess.ELO, Billy Squire Cheap Trick, the Clash..I don't know....And speaking of new wave anyone remember Split Enz? Loved them too many artists to name. I hope no one throws rocks but I was pretty much sick of The Beatles by the time I was 16.
i also love Billie Holiday, patsy Cline, Nat King Cole and for some reason for the past couple of years I have been listening to the Big Band/Swing and Singers and Standards music channels on my comcast cable. I find that music to be soothing and invigorating all at the same time. That sounds like an oxymoron but it relaxes me and puts me in a happier mood. blink.gif

So many good bands......and yes, I remember Split Enz!! Great band.
I also enjoy classic rock---Joplin, Hendrix, The Who, Zeppelin, Queen, you name it.

The one physician I work for is a big fan of Frank Sinatra.....before we got Sirius radio we had a CD player that all of us would bring in music to play in it. Listening to Frank on a busy Friday afternoon was relaxing and helped with the mood.

As a Billie Holiday fan, have you ever listened to Miki Howard? She does a lot of Billie Holliday covers, and does a great job IMO.

Fri. night i watched a Led Zep bio thing from A&E maybe. It was interesting but only 45 minutes long and as they were saying all the members were very private and liked to have an air of mystery about the band so they really didn't have too much info to give or so it seemed. I would have liked more and I would have liked more clips.

Tasha, thanks so much for starting this thread!

Here's a story you music fans will enjoy (I hope!):

My BFF and her hubby have great parties......about 6 years ago they had an 80s theme party--you had to come dressed as something from the 80s, didn't matter what just as long as it was from that decade.
There were some Valley Girls, a neighbor came dressed as Miami Vice, someone else was Jeff Spicolli from Fast Times at Ridgemont High.......I went dressed as Robert Smith of The Cure! I found a black outfit, teased my hair out to there, put on the heavy black eye makeup, pale powder on my face, and scarlet lipstick! And I will say, I did pass pretty good for Robert Smith (too bad the pics didn't develop sad.gif ).
Anyway, my BFF dressed as Madonna in the bustier and crinolines, and her hubby dressed as Billy Idol, with leather vest and tight leather pants (lookin' good too! ::blushes:smile.gif. BFF and I are looking for her Cure CDs, and she called out to her hubby about it. And at that point, the voices died down (as they do at a party) and at that moment her hubby yells out, "But what about my Neil Diamond CDs??". And there he is, dressed all in leather, and revealing to all that he loved Neil Diamond's music, which not too many knew about......we all (50 of us there) started laughing.........maybe you just had to be there! laugh.gif
And yes.....I do like Neil Diamond's music too!

I didn't know you guys liked music a lot, I like to read your favorites smile.gif. I love 80's pop-rock, classical music, pop/dance, broadway, soft-pop, and sometimse instrumental. jazz, J-Pop or world music. Toto is my favorite band, and I absolutely loooove Phil Collins & some Genesis. You guys mentioned bands I know but only because I know one song of theirs that I like, like Time of the Season, Sometimes I Get Lonely, Rock the Casbah, You're My Best Friend (lol), Drive, Bloody Sunday, Come Undone, Baby Baby, I Want It That Way,...etc. Anita Baker, Enya, Howard Jones, Chris de Burgh, Yes & Metro Station have good songs, too. I also listen to a selection of Gino Vannelli music, he is Italian/Canadian, has anyone ever heard of him?

My parents have Seals & Crofts, Simon & Garfunkel, Men at Work, America, the Mamas and the Papas, Elton John, The Beach Boys, Earth, Wind & Fire, Billy Joel the Stranger, The Steve Miller Band in the car we listen to. I made my dad an Alan Parsons Project CD for his birthday last year. I also made a mixed CD with songs like Sailing by Christopher Cross, Blackwater, You Can Do Magic, Dreamweaver, All I Have to Do Is Dream, Mister Sandman, Unforgettable, Gimme the Night, Aja, I heard it so many times when I was making it I don't want to hear it when they put it on anymore, haha. I love making playlists of a bands greatest hits, some of them out there are just so ruined and horribly put together, I wanted to redo them.

I could make a whole essay on music, though tongue.gif it's a great part of my life. In January, I made a fun project where every month I would gather 6 new songs (that I would rate 5 stars) that I heard in that month, and so I keep an ear out on the radio to hear new songs. I'm up to 48 songs, most of them 80's and current songs.

Awesome thread Tasha!

I have a very broad range in music, I'll listen to classical, rock, rap (the early stuff), some pop but I'm not too big on country.

However I love U2, I have almost all their CD's, my favourites have got to be Heartland, Drowning Man, Do You Feel Loved and City of Blinding Lights

Although lately, I've been listening to a lot of Japanese rock and pop, some of my favourites are:

Ready, Steady, Go, Link, and Lost Heaven by L'arc-en-Ciel
Gardenia and Au Revoir by Malice Mizer
Beautiful World, Passion and Sanctuary by Hikaru Utada
D-Technolife by UVERWorld
Houki Boshi by Youhna
Honoo no Tobira by Function Junction Yuuka
Blaze by Kinya
Loop by Maaya Sakamoto
Rewrite by Asian Kung-Fu Generation
Cruel Angel's Thesis by Yoko Takahashi

Some other bands/singers/songs I like:

Elton John
The Who
Nickelback
Coolio's Gangster's Paradise
Pink Floyd's Keep Talking
Cher
LOREN and MASH's Thanatos (If I Can't Be Yours, from End of Evangelion)
Nat King Cole
Michael Jackson (especially his older stuff)
Nirvana
some Metallica
the Fullmetal Alchemist and Neon Genesis Evangelion instrumental soundtracks

Cripes, what a list tongue.gif

Awesome thread Tasha!

I have a very broad range in music, I'll listen to classical, rock, rap (the early stuff), some pop but I'm not too big on country.

However I love U2, I have almost all their CD's, my favourites have got to be Heartland, Drowning Man, Do You Feel Loved and City of Blinding Lights

Although lately, I've been listening to a lot of Japanese rock and pop, some of my favourites are:

Ready, Steady, Go, Link, and Lost Heaven by L'arc-en-Ciel
Gardenia and Au Revoir by Malice Mizer
Beautiful World, Passion and Sanctuary by Hikaru Utada
D-Technolife by UVERWorld
Houki Boshi by Youhna
Honoo no Tobira by Function Junction Yuuka
Blaze by Kinya
Loop by Maaya Sakamoto
Rewrite by Asian Kung-Fu Generation
Cruel Angel's Thesis by Yoko Takahashi

Some other bands/singers/songs I like:

Elton John
The Who
Nickelback
Coolio's Gangster's Paradise
Pink Floyd's Keep Talking
Cher
LOREN and MASH's Thanatos (If I Can't Be Yours, from End of Evangelion)
Nat King Cole
Michael Jackson (especially his older stuff)
Nirvana
some Metallica

Cripes, what a list tongue.gif

And I thought I was bad!!! LOL

Hmmm.....let me think of what I have out in my car:
--KISS
--Vangelis (his soundtrack for Blade Runner is a personal favorite)
--The Cure
--U2
--Tori Amos
--The Who
--Led Zeppelin
--B.B. King
--Pink Floyd
--Nickelback
--Cream
--Alice In Chains
--Queensryche
--Joy Division (anyone remember them?)
--Queen
--Jimi Hendrix

Pink Floyd... damn. Years and years ago I had this crappy job at a factory. We worked 12 hour shifts, 4 days on, 4 days off. We weren't supposed to have them, but I snuck in a walkman. But the only tape I had at the time was The Wall. Think about it... nothing but The Wall for twelve hours a day... over and over again. It's really a miracle no one got hurt... lol.

Then years later there was that guy and the things he did to me with Wish You Were Here playing in the background... but this is a family show..... biggrin.gif

12 hours of The Wall.....as much as I like The Wall, I'd go postal if I had to listen to it for that long.....but better that than the factory noises!! lol Now, if it had been Dark Side of the Moon.... rolleyes.gif

Mmmm, Wish You Were Here......great album.......you could do a flashymom and write an explicit chapter for one of your fanfics! biggrin.gif Maybe it needs to be featured in a Breakthrough chapter???

Cute! My mom (also a Rush fan) once told me her and her friends were at a Rush concert a when she was younger and the way she wore her hair that night everyone thought she was a dead ringer for Geddy Lee lol.

Well I was 19 or 20 at the time, so my tolerance for listening to the same thing for hours on end was alot higher than it is now.

As for Wish-You-Were-Here-sex showing up in in Breakthrough... um... just how kinky are you prepared for Bobby to get? LOL
Lisa K
What a great thread, thank you Tasha for starting it! smile.gif

I'm more of a rock music fan and have been for over 20 years now. I do listen to other stuff but it's predominantly rock.

*Matchbox Twenty (Rob Thomas's voice makes me melt)
*Aerosmith
*Van Halen (especially DLR era)
* early Motley Crue
*Fuel
*Theory of a Deadman
*Nickelback
*Black Stone Cherry
*Cry of Love (now defunct)
*Velvet Revolver/Stone Temple Pilots
*Train

I also like to listen to:

*Sarah McLachlan (her CD 'Fumbling Towards Ecstasy' is amazing)
* Michael Buble (the most perfect voice i've ever heard)
*Justin Timberlake
*Panic at the Disco
*Fall Out Boy
*Newton Faulkener (British artist, his CD 'Handbuilt by Robots is recommended)
*Maroon 5

I listen to music a lot when i'm writing, i'm not one to play it over the speakers though, i much prefer to listen through headphones.

60's......Jimi Hendrix......Beatles.......Canned Heat.....et al.........timeless music....

Babyface, BOYZ II MEN, Luther Vandross.......great music when you are with someone special....

The BLUES.........Muddy Waters.....Son House......Howling Wolf.........original music written by artists that have lived what their songs are saying....

Electric guitar music..........I"ll be 100 years old and in the home and I'll still say....."Hey boy......put on my Stevie Ray Vaughan "Texas Flood.......Live at the El Mocambo" CD".........this music just grabs you, knocks you down, kicks you when you're down, and then smiles back at you when it is leaving...........when I'm called up yonder I'm hoping that JIMI and STEVIE RAY are jamming together and that I can watch.....and that there is beer....

WOW Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan jamming together THAT would be mind blowing

Here's my curren favorite:

Bright Eyes

Is it a kind of dream,
Floating out on the tide,
Following the river of death downstream?
Or is it a dream?

There's a fog along the horizon,
A strange glow in the sky,
And nobody seems to know where you go,
And what does it mean.
Oh, is it a dream?

Bright eyes,
Burning like fire.
Bright eyes,
How can you close and fail?
How can the light that burned so brightly,
Suddenly burn so pale?
Bright eyes.

Is it a kind of shadow,
Reaching into the night,
Wandering over the hills unseen,
Or is it a dream?

There's a high wind in the trees,
A cold sound in the air,
And nobody ever knows when you go,
Or where do you start.
Oh, oh, into the dark.

Bright eyes,
Burning like fire.
Bright eyes,
How can you close and fail?
How can the light that burned so brightly,
Suddenly burn so pale?
Bright eyes.

I haven't seen Watership Down in many years....I need to find it and watch it again.

I listen to everything from Abba to Zevon (except hip-hop and rap).

I've been a Dead Head, a Parrot Head, a Warrior, a Renegade, a Monkey, a Jackson Browne, Eagles, Linda Ronstadt, Bonnie Raitt freak, ...LOL!

I grew up in the 60s- the BEST music was in the late 60s to late 70s! Rock was great!

Since the entrance of Garth Brooks and Alabama in the 80s, I've been listening exclusively to Country, HOWEVER, country has gotten so far away from it's roots, I've been venturing into Cold Play, Natasha Beddingfield, Norah Jones, Buck Cherry, Amy Winehouse (despite her issues, I love her music), Sarah Berelis, OAR, and some of the more contemporary music.

Hey, the CMA Musicfest is on ABC right now - - gotta watch- several of my friends went and I plan to go next year because, despite it all, it's still my fav type of music.

It was in Watership Down. But somehow I also heard it elsewhere and then on the internet found it by Art Garfunkle (sp?). Loved it and still do.
