Declan did all this in order to engage Bobby in the puzzle of his life and at the same time eliminate all the forces in his life that could drag him down.
You know what's really messed up?? I think it'll work. It's f*cked up and psycho and I'll bet it'll work.
I'm still reeling..
right there with you on this one, pfc---considering this is a character who looks at things "sideways", in a manner of speaking ( )---I think it WILL work for him.
The room is still spinning for me; now I must up and watch it again at midnight....hubby had the utter gall to wait until the last minute to leave the living room---watching the Miss Hooters International pageant, no less! If I would've missed the beginning, I'd have to kick his a$$ up over his ears! Freakin' A, again!
This episode has trumped Endgame, Untethered, and Purgatory, IMO.

Spoiler:
I think since that Eames was in the room when they brought Dec in that Bobby and Alex talked and cleared the air. But one thing is that they are back on a level playing field. Even though Alex did not betray Bobby, he thought she did. It was the same with the undercover operation. And Alex was by his side for every step of the way, which will hopefully prove to both Bobby and Dec that Bobby is not alone - he will always have his partner.

Spoiler:
At some point on this show there has got to be a 'fresh start'. They can't keep this line going on forever. For the line of the show, there has to be an end somewhere so that they can move forward and start developing something new. Unfortunately, they got rid of the quirkiness and started in with all the personal background with Goren. Now that they have basically written out everyone involved there, except Donnie, maybe they can start moving forward to more crime shows than the personal stuff. That's what I meant by a 'fresh start'.

Now that I'm able to process the events of this episode... I will actually comment on it.
Spoiler:
Where do I even start? -Poor Eames, that's the first thing I can say. Why the heck did they (especially Declan) have to do that to her? Thinking she was involved was just ridiculous, and on top of all that, you can tell she was scared for Goren thoughout this whole thing. Most of the time I found myself wishing that someone would just hug her. -MFB... well, that was a surprise to me. Hmm. While I agree that Ross suggesting that he could've been the murderer because of his father crossed a line, I do think that maybe now we know where his strain of unconventional-ness comes from. -Goren. Hah, that's all I can really say. He needs a hug. I don't exactly see how this "pulled him out of a nosedive", but maybe we'll see it next season. I think maybe in some weird, twisted way, Declan may have actually helped him. Either that, or the fact that he now knows who is really on his side will help him out, like someone here said once. Maybe next season we'll see him dance again.
I can't wait to see what the writers have in mind for season 8!

That was SUCH a good episode! Hubby doesn't usually always watch with me, but he was enthralled. After we tucked the kids in, we got to see the whole last 15 minutes with Dec and Bobby in the interrogation room. I looked at Hubby as the show ended, and he had TEARS in his eyes. It was SO GOOD!!! The eyebrow, the anguish over Frank, the pieces falling into place. Poor Jo - I really felt sorry for her after I heard what the nurse at the prison hospital told Bobby. Anyway, all of it priceless!
Did feel like a season ender, tho; have to agree with all who said that and felt that way.
Standing ovation, round of applause, champagne and caviar! Bravo! Brava! Bravissimo to all involved with this episode. One for the record books.

Well......
I do not know quite what to say yet. I think that I am in shock.
Spoiler:
All in all I will have to say this one was one of the best. A great season fianle. Gage was obviously off his rocker from the start of it all. I noticed his filthy hands, the obsessive candy eating, his supposed loss of memory on certain things, his story about the "bump" from the mystery person. Granted I didn't know exactly what it meant, but I knew that man was involved, seriously involved. I so wanted to throttle Ross...I hope to hell he feels terrible for suspecting his own detective. I simply cannot see Deakins doing that. The raised eyebrows at Ross? Vincent you crack me up! Has to be one of his hottest, most expressive new moves...I loved it. In a strange way I do think Gage thought he was helping Bobby. Getting rid of Nicole suits me just fine. Frank being gone, yeah probably better for Goren...but he looked positively stricken at the crime scene. Goren's expression at the end in the interrogation room, like it was becoming more clear why Gage did what he did. Maybe he will be able to get his life back next season...BUT, Donnie is still missing. So, there is that little tie-in yet. Eames went to bat for Bobby...WAY TO GO EAMES!! And seriously, I know Bobby has bills and all..but can the guy get a little update on his apartment...please? Okay, going to rewatch at midnight...if its playing again, like it usually does, but who knows. Definately going to have to visit Twilight Isle after this one... see the ship / no ship thread if that doesn't make sense....
Okay...so how soon is it until November again??????

Spoiler:
Now knowing that Dec was the one that killed Nicole it was kind of interesting that he rented the Honeymoon Suite to hold her heart, especially since Dec told Bobby that Nicole told him that Bobby was the only man she ever truly loved. In others words, she held his heart. But even funnier - and this comes from my little shipper heart - that the B&B owner thought Bobby and Alex were a couple . Honeymoon Suite with Bobby and Alex in it - it's like a shipper fantasy, but without any traces of Nicole there, of course.

QUOTE (chimera @ Aug 24 2008, 10:25 PM)
I agree that this seems more like a series ender than a season ender. However, I think they are setting the stage for Jeff Goldblum. Other shows have alternated humorous and dramatic episodes with the same cast. But if they split tragic/comic totally with two different sets of partners, the show would go schizophrenic. I think they've got to bring Goren/Eames up in mood, and they may have to bring JG down. Eric Bagosian said he had to find a way to play consistently with both sets of partners.
This was an excellent episode. VDO's acting was a pearl--layer upon layer of meaning, yet forming a beautiful whole. Considering this was the changing of the guard, a new writing and producing team coming on board, this was beautifully wrapped up to almost a clean slate.
I was truly delighted that it met my expectations and more.
I agree Chimera. It was fabulous - the acting was flawless, though no employee/cop would ever be allowed to act as Bobby has for FOREVER towards his boss and still be an employee/cop, but...
Does anyone else think that Jeff Goldblum looked positively PSYCHOPATHIC in the short glimpse of him we had after the episode? I get that they may be trying to not have Jeff G act like Jeff G (which he does in every role) for once. Tone down the nebbishy factor a bit. We can't have two stuttering, suffering, huggable geniuses on CI at the same time - the TV might implode. Though I was rooting for Michael Raines to have transferred (I guess moved really) from Cali and showed up on the NYPD in the Major Case Squad - I still really miss Raines!
Just a thought.

Hi! I am new to the forum, but have been a lurker for a while. I have just got to say that Vincent D'Onofrio's performance tonight was SUPERB! He has always been outstanding, but tonight was incredible! The little move he did with his eyebrow gave me CHILLS! While tonight's episode tied up a lot of loose ends: Nicole finally being gone, Frank no longer around (Sorry, I did not like him.); Declan finally showing his true roots (His daughter got the "bad" genes somewhere!); and the pscyhoanalysis about Bobby and his parentage (including why his mother was the way she was), if just makes me wonder what direction Goren's character is going to take. He still has to deal with Brady being his dad, and let's not forget that he has been tagged a "RAT" because of the undercover sting. Maybe the writers will create a new nemesis who tries to use these things against him? I just hope they don't "cure" him overnight... Again, hats off to a great episode!

i think that, as far as declan "pulling bobby out of a nosedive"....bobby was depressed. his mom died, his druggie brother was estranged, his nephew was missing...nicole hasn't been around much, but she's in his background, he was suspended as a result of his helping his nephew...etc. etc. i think dec pulled him out of a nosedive by a) getting rid of the "dead weight" as dec put it (awful way to describe anyone isn't it?....worse reason for murder)...and b ) made goren face everything....face his emotions...sometimes after such raw raw emotion, i think people can start anew. turn a new page. put things behind you.
i dunno. i'm assuming it'll happen for goren. he'll have to make it happen. the only way it wouldn't is if goren blames himself now for frank and nicole's deaths (since they were killed because of him)

Per Declan saying that Nicole's last words were that Bobby was the only man she had ever really loved, that truly sounds like something she'd say just to screw with Bobby's head once last time. I mean, she knew she was going to die and she couldn't resist the temptation to stick a shiv in him for old time's sake.
Spoiler:
Declan may be right in some incredibly warped cruel way ... that Bobby needed a shock to his system of a magnitude to snap him out of his deepening melancholy. However, the psychotic bastard went about it the wrong way. His brain has been totally pickled, so I bet he winds up in a psyche ward right next to his comatose daughter Jo, or maybe they still have a reservation available at the Heaven suite at Tate's upstate.

However, really, how could you be FREE after your mentor obliterates what is left of your life. If this is supposed to be the beginning of Bobby climbing out of his very deep pit, I think they may need to toss him a longer ladder.

I also liked how Rogers covered for him. That showed they are co-workers and she respects him. That was a nice depth to her character. SHe was in the wrong to talk about his papa. When Ross asked, she should have said it was a confidence and sent him on his way. On that point...I dont see what Ross was picking up on that lead him to believe that she knew something? Was it supposed to be in that scene? Or, an over all feeling through the whole season. Or, maybe it was pillow talk .

I wonder with Warren Leight moving on, the writers wanted to wrap up Bobby's back story somewhat???? It gives new team a fresh start.. All of these characters were from past episodes going back many years of this show.. New team for CI may mean a new twist..
Also.... I wonder if Olivia D'abo shot her scenes at a completely different time since other than flashback, she was by herself???? Other than the florist, never saw her face with another actor or scene that also had G&E....
Her actual screen time in this episode was very short...

First of all- To the USA network- Are you sure you couldn't squeeze in anymore commercials-like twenty or so more-I was ready to kick my poor TV- Also the release of the clip did not diminish the episode at all-I was on the edge of my seat and clinging to every word-all the release of the clip did was prevent some 911 calls-
Second of all- Phenomenal episode- Congratulations to all the writers, crew and of course, the best actors ever- I really didn't want Frank to die but I felt better that Bobby at least had made the effort to contact him, though too late- And yes when I heard that he never told Donnie's mother what he did for Donnie, that really was bad of Frank- But always the optimist, I had hoped that they had reconciled- Love the way Eames stood up to everyone and especially nasty to Gage- But please, couldn't Eames at least put him her on Bobby's shoulder when Frank died and they were in the elevator-I think she could reach his shoulder-and that's just comforting friendship-is there a force field between them- So Brady is his father and Donnie is still out there and if it wasn't for him, Frank would have still died but from an overdose, so how is Bobby free- Well we still have Donnie to wonder about-
Third of all and certainly not least of all- Vincent D'Onofrio is the best actor of all-while I am watching CI, you are Goren, there is no question-just a brilliant job- Thanks all for a great season- Regi.
My thoughts EXACTLY!

I got a text message from USA Network that said, "Every actor in this episode has appeared on CI before, and Exec Producers Leight & Barba played 2 of tonight's Narcotics Anonymous meeting attendees."
QUOTE (TheGoddessDivine @ Aug 24 2008, 10:21 PM)
That episode IMO.....one of the best ones!!!!! As I look around my living room, at the spilled popcorn, the Tastykake wrappers, the Middleswarth BBQ chip bag, I can't believe just how wrapped up in Frame I got. I'll try to stay up until midnight to catch the repeat showing....
Spoiler:
My poor poor Bobby.....to find out who his biological father is MFB....explains why he kept dressing the same. Seems to me that started about 2 months ago, right around the time of the DNA testing. You just come to the Goddess and I'll take good care of you...
Frank...man, what a horrible way to die, thinking he was getting lucky with a pretty blonde, and look what happened.
You know, as I think of Endgame, when Bobby was trying to choke MFB, and MFB says to the effect "I knew you had it in you"...really gives me the chills now, especially seeing how Bobby was in Ross' office....bet Ross needed to change his underwear after that .
Agree with everything you said!

Yes, VDO was brilliant, as well as K.Erbe. Those are 2 of one kind, outstanding together.
BRILLIANT, EXCELLENT!!!!! EMMYS COME ON ALREADY!!!!!

Spoiler:
I didn't see it that way. When Dec kept telling Bobby at the end that he was free, I felt Bobby was starting to let that sink in.
I also disagree that this doesn't leave anything for the next season. I see it as a fresh start. Everyone is gone now (I'll add something to that) and Bobby has a fresh start on his life. I see the writers going in a different direction now and "hopefully?" getting back on track to the original detective show.
VDO did some AMAZING acting tongiht.
Nichole? I have a hard time believing she's dead. But I sure hope so.
Bobby had every right to be mad at the ME. He went to her in confidence and it should have stayed that way.

Excellent post. I totally agree!!!!!!!

OMG, that scene in Ross's office...
Spoiler:
That eyebrow raise has to be go up near the top of the hottest Bobby moments ever! Oh, and the "did you ask your girlfriend! I lovvvvvvved it !!!
Again, I think you can see the "pulled out of a nosedive" thing if you look at the individual scenes
Spoiler:
It was not an overall dive, but each little issue that came up. Eamaes helped balance his panic.
Ooh, and we saw the '71 again!! So sad to hear that Goren is "not flush." Maybe that is why he wears the same outfits. I will take him shopping any day. We will start with intimates!
I agree! Poor Bobby -- He is in all that DEBT!!!!!!!!

Spoiler:
How does having your brother killed by your mentor/father figure give you a fresh start? That will always haunt him.
Bobby will have a fresh start in season 8, but I don't think it's because Declan killed his brother... However, he will be all rested up, and back to normal... Yes. What Declan did will always haunt him...
QUOTE (MissBunny998 @ Aug 24 2008, 10:27 PM)
YES! OMG! I SQUEELED LIKE A PIGGIE!!! He said "or am I?" with just his freaking eyebrow!!!! WONDERFUL. Give the man an Emmy.....NOW.
ME TOO!!! Yes, that eyebrow!!!!!!!! WOW! Emmy? I totally agree!
QUOTE (krodgers @ Aug 24 2008, 10:28 PM)
Yeah, Maybe Ross was a little weary with the big bad Bobby stare!
I loved that stare!!!!!! I WAS SCREAMING SO MUCH WITH THAT SCENE (as well as many other scenes)!!!!!

I think she got the "oh Sh#t" look b/c of HIPPA....she broke confidentiality. And I thought Ross had picked up on it when Rodgers had said "I know" pretty quickly and had cut him off while he was talking.

Well this time we got a better shot of his car! I remember eveyone wondering what kind of car it was in 'Purgatory'. I made a mental note of the car but didn't catch what kind it was.
did we see the car again?! ill have to keep my eye out for it during the re-watch hehehe

I wonder if this is how Warren saw the "series" ending. Since, I kinda felt that this seemed liked a series ender, rather than a season ender- even though it's not. Makes since if this is how Warren would have ended it. But, this leaves a brighter window of stories for the new bosses.

Well, I saw the two-minute replay, so I knew. Plus, with the whole next season to go, they wouldn't allow a (known) serial killer be a cop.
OMG! You DID! Didn't you?
I kept thinking, "There is another season, there's no way that they would have Bobby kill anyone...Bobby wouldn't kill anyone."
But then he started acting all creepy...

I returned home very late from a Golf game with my boyfriend and I missed the show. I guess I'll catch up the rerun at midnight.

Regarding the text msg that all actors have been in CI before. I wonder if that means" everyone" or just the majors. Like what about the florist, the B&B owner, the doc at the hospital? Once we all calm down, that might be a fun game to place them all in a previous epi.
