Full Version: What are "dailies"?

In the Turn and Burn commentary, Matt mentions "seeing the dailies." What are those?

If anyone can offer a basic primer on production and some of the vernacular used by TV writers and producers, I think you'd have an attentive audience in this forum.

The commentaries, interviews and other little ancillary videos on this website are great.

Dailies are raw, unedited footage shot when making a picture. It's the "daily" footage that is developed, and synched to sound and printed on film for viewing the next day.

I took a learning annex class some years back about film making. Very interesting stuff. I used to think I'd like to work on a movie set. I love the technical aspect of it all.

I love this stuff, too. I wish I could cull all the dailies from each episode of BN! Believe me, I could watch every piece of footage from this show without getting bored. Heck, I'd even watch unedited footage of set/production designer Craig Siebels driving around Miami in his van for 13 hours! Yes, I really am that much of an addict. biggrin.gif

LOL!!! I was thinking that too. I'd love to be assistant to the assistant to the assistant to the director. LOL

BTW, Trav1s, dailies are sometimes called rushes or daily rushes.

I would love to be a fly flying around the set just to see the whole show before the cuts. That way you get to hear and see the bloopers live and uncut.... Although I don't see that many coming from Jeffrey.
