I just wonder where it's ultimately heading is all.... ph34r.gif

I cant see Michael going back to his work after all he's been through. He is probably trying to convince himself that he is trying to find out who burned him so he can get back to espionage, but I think he's just trying to clear his name so he can put that part of his life behind him. I think its more about the principle than anything else.

I totally agree, Prometheus. I love that the writing in the show portrays the character's hopes and dreams, and not necessarily the reality of the outcomes of the choices they make- sort of like how life works, ya think?

Or am I reading too deeply into this?

I was torn between "consultant" and "live it up"....After the epi where i think Bly tries to make him a Security guard, thought I know it's not the same thing, "consultant" just rang wrong, to me....I think he would get a little more laid back (though not professionally) and feel a bit better about living life more, so I went with the "live it up", though neither is 100%

Did like the last one though smile.gif

Hmmm, I'm not sure but I think he might just go back to the spy business. Yeah he got burned and he's trying to find out the reason for it, but it's in his blood, he's good at it. I can't see him just totally leaving the spy life behind him and moving on. And I certainly can't see him settling down or just hanging out in the bar with Sam all the time. Bo-ring. biggrin.gif

I believe Michael would go back to spying, if he could. At least until he gets older, then he might want to slow up a bit. But given the way the character's developed, I can't see him really even wanting to do something else--he's just so good at what he does! cool.gif Not to mention that given what we know of his history, what on earth else would he even be qualified to do? He's been training for this job since he stole his first car! tongue.gif

A really good question. Ultimately, you have to wonder, what the hell does he plan on doing after he figures out who burned him. I think he would continue doing the private work. He loves the game and will never get it out of his system. Family is just a necessary evil for him. He will be responsible if it happens to him but he will not plan it.

He's 40. That's sort of OLD in the spy biz. So, I think he will move on. Also, his cover has been blown. How can he go back to spying now? People in the biz knew his name but didn't necessarily know how he looked or where he was from, etc.

I don't know, I supose he'd stay kinda where he is....think he's developing a taste for the not so small "small stuff"...maybe he could be a touch (though I doubt he'd have it shouted from the rooftops smile.gif ) more public once he's "unburned", "cooled" or however it's worked out in the end.....being his own boss has its perks and downfalls, of course....but I think he likes the freedom....doesn't mean he can't do "consulting" and the "big work" from time to time.....smile.gif

I agree with you, Prometheus - my sense is that Michael is trying to clear his name out of principle. It's a matter of personal integrity for him. I sort of am getting the feeling in this second season that he's just going through the motions in terms of the whole "covert ops/intel/spy" stuff. Admittedly this is an inference on my part - what the heck do I know? Hence, the reason I answered, "I ain't a writer, for cripe's sake." [okay, okay - so I also opted for this answer to have the opportunity to use the phrase, "for cripe's sake," lol]

I'm afraid that when this is all unraveled, Michael may realize he's been forced to work for the bad guys (Carla) and not US or US allies. So, a Burn Notice will be the least of his worries. And, this will be a very long, long process. I don't see him getting to go back to his old job, ever.

And a car will slow beside you, and a door will open, and someone you know, maybe even trust, will get out of the car. And he will smile, a becoming smile. But he will leave open the door of the car and offer to give you a lift.

Oh. My. Heavens. There's another Three Days of the Condor fan posting on the BN forum. *look of astonishment*

I have seen this movie approximately 549 times. I own it on DVD and watch it at *least* three or four times a year (haven't seen it since Sydney Pollack died, alas, but saw it January, I think).

Yep - this is *exactly* the kind of vibe going on with Michael Westen (the serious vibe, that is - Condor didn't really have that whole cheeky thing going on, lol). Ishmael1, I think I love you. *delighted applause* biggrin.gif

[and for anyone who hasn't seen Three Days of the Condor, get thee to Netflix and order it! It's a fantastic movie (and one of the few movies to have been filmed within the WTC)...]

Well, I do come by it honestly. I spent six years in the Navy hunting the great steel whales as a sonarman, hence my monikor.

the last five years I've been emulating this Redford/Pollack collaboration maintaining microwave radio sites on the mountaintops of southern Colorado and Northern New Mexico where I HAVE seen Grizz sign.

I would like the picture of the two of them somewhere like this:
