I've been thinking about all the "we want Monk movies after the show reaches its end" talk and back at tube history concerning such things. Every time such movies occurred -- what were called "reunion" shows -- they occurred years and years later. Long years when the series was in syndication and there were eventually tremors out there for such a thing as a "reunion" show.

That means, if the 7th season is it (I hope not), the earliest we should expect a "reunion" show would be...oh, 2017 or 2018, I think.

That's often the case, but I don't think it is a hard and fast rule. If they want to make movies, and people want to watch them, and the network thinks they can turn a buck, it will happen.

An interesting plot-line for a Monk Movie might be...

Sharona's husband goes missing while is San Francisco on business. Sharona, of course, turns to her favorite detective and good friend, Adrian Monk. Drama, of course; Adrian doesn't know how to react to her visit... he's still a bit angry about her abandoning him.

And there's a certain amount of uncomfortable antagonism between Sharona and Natalie... Sharona keeps asking things like, "Do you keep his wipes moist, the way he likes them?" but Natalie reacts with "I've been taking care of Monk for years; I know how he likes his orange juice!" And Sharona resents that Natalie gets paid for expenses, of course.

But in a Shakespearean subplot twist, Benji is quite taken with Julie, who is somewhat coy about it, but rather flattered by his attentions. And, of course, they don't understand why their mothers are so antagonistic.

Mr. Monk takes time from his hobby... working on the one case he never solved... to find Sharona's husband, Trevor (who, it turns out, was kidnapped by a gang of Elvis impersonators, as a practical joke, hinging on mistaken identity) (he should not have worn blue suede shoes to that bar, near the train station, where the one goldfish swims slowly in circles...).

But Elvis, it seems, has a link to Kelly Street, and to Dale the Whale. And Kelly Street knows more than she is telling... and so does Dale. In a sub-sub-plot, Natalie gets a letter from Mitch's wingman, who testified at the Court of Inquiry that Mitch abandoned them, taking the radio and rations. He just writes that he's terribly sorry. The next day, he is found dead in a Santa Clara hotel room. And Monks says... It wasn't suicide. In a stunning schizoid three-dimensional summation, Monk sums up what happened to Mitch's wingman, why Trevor was kidnapped, and how he knows that Kelly street is lying... Kelly street, of course, disappears, and her apartment is empty, except for three stuffed squirrels... and a broken teacup... With traces of Lapsang Soochong tea... and pink lipstick...

Ultimately, Sharona, Trevor, and Benji return to Jersey, and Monk finally has closure over having been abandoned by her in the first place... And another Clue in the Great Mystery... and an insight into what really happened to Mitch.

Thus Ends It. Roll credits.

This I would most certainly pay to watch in a cinema smile.gif

I think that Monk movies would be a great idea. I think the time delay may have more to do with actors wanting to move on to other projects than anything else, but I would love to see about 4 tv Monk movies a year.

And Monk should give the summation while sitting in an "Antique Wingback Cusack Chair."

So, when is the series going to be changed from "Monk" to "Monk and Natalie", that's the question. wink.gif
